在节目的表现形式上，不仅有现场观众参与的谈话节目，也有无现场观众的谈话节目，不仅有带嘉宾的谈话节目，也有不带嘉宾的谈话节目，不仅有在演播室现场录制的谈话节目，也有利用卫星通讯技术让不同地域的嘉宾同时进行交流的谈话节目。
谈话节目呈分众化趋势
针对不同的受众需求来制作电视节目，是当今世界电视发展的一个潮流。这不仅是电视节目日益增多、竞争日趋激烈的结果，也是电视商业化进程的内在要求。
国内“脱口秀”
国内被误用冠名的很多“脱口秀”节目，其实对应的并不只是欧美的“Talk Show（脱口秀）”，有的是“Stand-up comedy（单口喜剧）”香港称为栋笃笑（粤语正字：戙 笑，读：d ngduksíu），台湾称为独角喜剧；如果通篇主要是情景表演，则对应的是欧美的“sketch comedy（喜剧小品）”。
