Every time you go shopping, the vegetables and fruit look so tempting that you wish you could buy all of them. Some people are lucky and can grow the fruit and vegetables in the gardens that they have. While getting fresh vegetables, they can also achieve great cost cutting.
Mushrooms are expensive and can also go bad very quickly. Mushrooms can also be grown easily in a dark environment. In fact it's better than growing other vegetables since you really don't need an outdoor space. A special type of soil that is good for growing mushrooms is easily available.
Actually mushrooms aren't even vegetables; they are fungi (菌类) and for this reason, you don't even require sunlight to grow them. Well, how does one go about growing mushrooms You could always search "growing mushrooms" and you will find a number of mushroom growing kits (工具) available online that are effective and not very expensive either.
Mushrooms can be added to any dish that you cook. Simply use them in pizza, salads and anything that you pretty much fancy. Grow mushrooms in your own house and use them whenever you want. Fresh mushrooms are tastier than the ones that are stored in your refrigerator.
If you have had a really good crop of mushrooms, then you can even store them. Ideally you should use the white variety of the mushrooms. Simply pick them, slice them and put them on a cookie sheet in a freezer. When they are frozen, you can use them when you want to. Aquaculture — or sea farming — is one of the brightest hopes for finding an answer to the problem of the world's food shortages. Although it may be years before sea farming produces large quantities of food, it is already partially successful. One of its successes is the growing of oyster (牡蛎).
Oyster farming is a big new business on Cape Cod, where large crops of oysters have been harvested. The waters there were famous for delicious oysters until the supply gave out about fifteen years ago. "There's a whole generation of people who have never eaten oysters," said Karl Touraine, marketing director of Aqua Dynamics, a company that grows oysters on nylon strings(尼龙绳) hanging from metal frames. "For about twenty years the oyster has been in short supply, and our aim is to change this by using new, modern growing techniques."
"Wareham, on Cape Cod, is the first place in the US where oysters are being grown on frames just off the bottom of the sea," said Hank McAvoy of the National Marine Fisheries Service. "But there's nothing new about off-bottom raising," Mr. McAvoy added. "It's been done successfully in Norway and Australia and, in the last few years, in Spain. The Japanese have used this form of sea farming for years, and they're the most successful, with a yearly crop of more than 46,000 pounds of shelled oysters an acre."
The Aqua Dynamics Group grows oysters on strings, away from the bottom so that the oysters' natural enemies cannot reach them. "When an oyster avoids enemies and lives in unpolluted water with plenty to eat, it'll grow fast." Karl Touraine explained. "Oysters will attach themselves to almost anything they can," he continued. "At Wareham, we use shells which we tie with nylon strings hanging from metal frames. We lower the strings into the water, leaving at least a foot of water between the lowest shell and the bottom."
"So far the growth has been excellent and the taste is just delightful," Mr. Touraine noted happily.

Alice Moore is a teenager entrepreneur (创业者), who in May 2015 set up her business AilieCandy. By the time she was 13, her company was worth millions of dollars with the invention of a super-sweet treat that could save kids' teeth, instead of destroying them.
It all began when Moore visited a bank with her dad. On the outing, she was offered a candy bar. However, her dad reminded her that sugary treats were bad for her teeth. But Moore was sick of missing out on candies. So she desired to get round the warning. "Why can't I make a healthy candy that's good for my teeth so that my parents can't say no to it " With that in mind, Moore asked her dad if she could start her own candy company. He recommended that she do some research and talk to dentists about what a healthier candy would contain.
With her dad's permission, she spent the next two years researching online and conducting trials to get a recipe that was both tasty and tooth-friendly. She also approached dentists to learn more about teeth cleaning. Consequently, she succeeded in making a kind of candy only using natural sweeteners, which can reduce oral bacteria.
Moore then used her savings to get her business off the ground. Afterwards, she and her father secured their first business meeting with a supermarket owner, who finally agreed to sell Moore's product — CanCandy.
As CanCandy's success grows, so does Moore's credibility as a young entrepreneur. Moore is enthusiastic about the candy she created, and she's also positive about what the future might bring. She hopes that every kid can have a clean mouth and a broad smile.
Meanwhile, with her parents' help, Moore is generally able to live a normal teenage life. Although she founded her company early on in life, she wasn't driven primarily by profit. Moore wants to use her unique talent to help others find their smiles. She donates 10% of AilieCandy's profits to Big Smiles. With her talent and determination, it appears that the sky could be the limit for Alice Moore.

Have you ever heard of agritourism where you can experience the farm life If not, Dr. Cindy Ayers-Elliott will tell you the real story of Foot Print Farms.
The original concept of building Foot Print Farms was simple. When Ayers-Elliott returned to her hometown after graduation, she didn't have to look any further than her state's alarming health statistics to find a mission. Everywhere she turned, there were reports of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and heart disease. "The problem was already identified," explains Ayers-Elliott. "Too many Mississippians were seriously unhealthy and it didn't take research to see that. And many of the state's greatest health challenges could directly result from poor diet."
These days, Foot Print Farms, which started with a few raised beds of herbs and vegetables, is making fresh, naturally grown food. “When speaking of the key to my success, the co-op model works because we share the work and rewards," notes Ayers-Elliott. "A perfect example is the Wingfield High School football team. To earn the money for equipment and other items, players committed to working five hours a week on the farm, and by the end of the summer they produced 1,000 melons and the profits from their sales helped to buy weights, T-shirts, sweat suits and pregame meals. But the lessons they learned about the rewards of hard work and working together to accomplish something were even more valuable products of their efforts."
"It's a model that can easily be learned in other places and I'm looking forward to seeing some of our current partners do just that—to take what they have learned here and spin it off in other communities," Ayers-Elliott remarks. She is now looking forward to developing an agritourism area to the farm, where visitors can experience the farm life, learn new skills and take with them seeds of inspiration they can sow in their own communities when they return home.
(1).What made Ayers-Elliott set up Foot Print Farms
A.The problems faced by local farmers. B.Her further research into heart disease.
C.The failure of her career after graduation. D.The health state of people in her hometown.
(2).Why does the author take the football team as an example
A.To advocate the concept of independence. B.To stress the importance of teamwork.
C.To support the idea of co-op model. D.To explore the key to success.
(3).What is Ayers-Elliott's attitude towards the future of FootPrint Farms
A.Optimistic. B.Skeptical. C.Cautious. D.Ambiguous.
(4).What is the main idea of the text
A.Naturally grown food benefits peopled health.
B.Food Print Farms is making a difference in Mississippi.
C.Ayers-Elliott encourages people to experience the farm life.
D.Agritourism is becoming increasingly popular in America.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写词数应为150左右。
Dannis was waiting at the airline ticket counter when he first noticed the young woman with shiny black hair pulled tightly into a knot. She wore black boots of soft leather. Dannis struggled to see her face, she was ahead of him in line, but it was not until she bought her ticket and turned to walk away that he realized her beauty, which was fair-skinned and big-eyed. She seemed aware that he was staring at her and lowered her gaze abruptly.
His flight was leaving in an hour. To kill time, Dannis stepped into an airport bar and ordered a Scotch. While sipping it, he watched the flow of travelers through the terminal (航站楼) until he caught sight of the black-haired girl again, deep in conversation with a blonde girl (金发女孩)."Invite her for a drink " Dannis hesitated. In another instant, the two women separated, neither of whose directions was toward him. When next he saw her, Dannis was buying a magazine and became aware someone was pushing him. At first, he was startled (受惊吓的) that anyone would be so close as to touch him, but when he saw who it was, he smiled.
"Busy place," Dannis said.
She looked up at him and blushed. Wordlessly, she moved away and joined the crowds in the terminal.
Dannis was at the counter with his magazine, but when he reached into his pocket for his wallet, the pocket was empty. Where could I have left it His mind was racing, the credit cards, the cash, the identification card... His stomach stirred with something very like fear. "The girl who was so near to me!" he said to himself. All at once he understood she had picked his pocket. What shall he do
First, find a policeman, tell him what has happened. He would probably never see his wallet again. Dannis gritted his teeth. When glancing around for the police, suddenly, he spotted the black-haired girl, seated against a front window of the terminal. She seemed absorbed in a book.
Paragraph 1 :
A seat beside her was empty, and Dannis occupied it. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2 :
The girl ran and Dannis ran after her._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

7.答案:has grown; the; actually; to improve; than; pollution; global; started; that/which; feeding
8.答案:
Dear Jim,
I am glad to know that you have joined your school's calligraphy club. The calligraphy piece sent to you was written by myself. I really hope you will like it.
The Chinese characters on the piece are "天道酬勤"(Tian Dao Chou Qin), meaning "Hard work pays off." It is a well-known Chinese idiom, widely adopted as a motto by Chinese people. I hope it can serve as an encouragement to you at all times. I wrote this piece in the calligraphic style of my favorite calligrapher, Yan Zhenqing, a renowned master of the Tang Dynasty. His style is kaishu, a standard script, suitable for beginners. I guess maybe it is the style that you are practising.
I know it is not easy to learn Chinese calligraphy. If you have any problems during your study, I would be happy to help you. I sincerely hope you enjoy learning Chinese calligraphy.
Yours,
Li Hua
