B卷
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
It's natural to be skeptical of eco-friendly shoes. With other "green" products not being durable(耐用的), it has to be asked if eco-friendly shoes can hold up to heavy use in a big city. I live in a large city where I walk, bike, and take public transit frequently through all types of wet, muddy, and polluted conditions. This means I require footwear that is not only trendy (because despite my active lifestyle, I do care how I look) but also durable and practical. I've been hesitant to try out the new wave of eco-friendly sneakers — partially because I'm wary of their durability and partially because I don't love how they look — but Cariuma's white high-tops(软底高帮系带运动鞋) caught my eye.
I got a pair to test — and so did a couple other BestReviews team members — to put these sustainable, fashionable sneakers to the test. Cariuma makes its name on the ethical processes that prioritize(优先考虑) the environment and the people involved, from raw materials to production to design. We decided to test the high-tops, though the brand also makes other sustainable shoes.
Here's what we thought about after about a month of wear.
Appearance: We all gave praise for these shoes. Many of my friends, who are more fashionable than me, gave me praise on my white high-tops. We were all worried about how the white canvas might look after the high-tops were worn in a not-so-clean city, but we've found that they held up well and didn't look too dirty. Plus, this is just part of the territory when it comes to white shoes. Since they're canvas, they can be cleaned as needed with a toothbrush and a tiny bit of detergent in warm water.
Fit and feel: I wore my Cariuma on an 11-mile walk across the city through various conditions, and I didn't develop foot discomfort one would expect after a full day of walking.
We've all found them to be comfortable, and increasingly so with each wear. They seem to be highly water-resistant. I've worn them through wet grass and in rain and my feet have stayed dry.
1. Which of the following can best describe the author
A. Sensitive to the price. B. Particular about dress.
C. Passionate about "green" products. D. Inactive but hardworking.
2. What does the underlined part in the first paragraph probably mean
A. Cautious about. B. Confused about.
C. Enthusiastic about. D. Interested in.
3. Why can Cariuma become famous
A. Because it attaches lots of importance to the environment.
B. Because it promotes the product as much as possible.
C. Because it lowers the cost of the shoes.
D. Because it makes fashionable shoes.

We have heard some interesting ways that 5G wireless technology might change our lives in the future.
5G, short for the 5th generation mobile communication technology, promises Internet speeds between 50 to 100 times faster than current 4G systems. While 5G is set to be used in some limited areas of America this year, much of the world is not expected to receive widely available service until 2023.
One project in Britain, however, is already testing this superfast technology on an unlikely group of Internet users—cows. The project was developed by American technology company Cisco Systems, Inc. It also receives money from the British government. Cisco says the program seeks to explore the future of 5G connectivity in rural areas around the world.
Testing areas were set up at farms in three rural areas of England. The cows are equipped with 5G-connected devices(装置) that link up to a robotic milking system, which uses sensors and machine learning to fully automate the process. System designers say technology takes over after a cow feels ready to be milked and walks toward an automatic gate. The device is designed to recognize each individual cow. It then positions equipment to the right body position for milking. During the process, machines release food for the cow as a reward.
Other 5G technology tools include automated brushes that turn on when the cow rubs(蹭) up against them. Sensors also control the amount of light to the cows' living areas depending on the weather. And, an automatic feeding system makes sure the animals always get enough to eat.
Duncan Forbes, head of the project, told Reuters that the project shows the farm's cow operations can be greatly improved with 5G technology and that the experiment provides strong evidence that 5G technology can be widely used in the future, not just on farms in Britain, but in rural communities across the world.
1.What is the purpose of Cisco Systems, Inc.'s project
A.To win financial support from British government.
B.To test the effects of 5G technology on animals.
C.To promote its technological development in Britain.
D.To expand the future use of 5G in rural communities.
2.What does the underlined word "It" in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.The project. B.The company. C.The technology. D.The group.
3.What can we learn about 5G according to the text
A.It is no worse than 4G in terms of speed.
B.It is already widely available in the world.
C.It has made improvement in operating the cows.
D.It is based on sensors and machine learning.
4.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A.Entertainment. B.Lifestyle. C.Education. D.Technology.

Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creative enough, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently.
According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK company, the "dream job" of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger(写博客的人), or "vlogger(视频博主)". The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as many as 40 percent of them put vloggers as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers.
This change is undoubtedly as a result of the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach the audience of the world, without having to enter a career in show business in the traditional way.
In the past, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become a star. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting(交流) with their fans about everyday life.
However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they fail to notice the fact that only those who are successful earn fame(名声) and fortune. For every success there are hundreds of others who never get off the starting line. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that remain dreams forever.
Although being vloggers is popular, some young people choose to follow careers that don't necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies. Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It's an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. His job allows him to express his enthusiasm, and is always a learning experience. And that's enough for him.
1.Why do more and more young Britons choose to be vloggers
A.Vloggers can earn little fame and money on the Internet.
B.There is too much competition in the traditional show business.
C.The Internet makes it convenient to become vloggers.
D.Anyone with a computer will surely become a star.
2.What can we infer from the fifth paragraph
A.Only a few vloggers can be successful. B.A vlogger can not earn fame or fortune.
C.Being a vlogger is not a good career. D.Dreams will come true one day.
3.What do some young people like David do on the Internet
A.Learn from others. B.Become an online hit.
C.Hold running races. D.Mix jobs with hobbies.
4.What is the passage mainly about
A.Most young Britons choose to be vloggers as their jobs.
B.The Internet is influencing young Britons' career choice.
C.The Internet is taking the place of traditional studios.
D.Young Britons can not find jobs without the Internet.

Preparing Cities for Robot Cars
The possibility of self-driving robot cars has often seemed like a futurist's dream, years away from materializing in the real world. Well, the future is apparently now. The California Department of Motor Vehicles began giving permits in April for companies to test truly self-driving cars on public roads. The state also cleared the way for companies to sell or rent out self-driving cars, and for companies to operate driverless taxi services. California, it should be noted, isn't leading the way panies have been testing their vehicles in cities across the country. It's hard to predict when driverless cars will be everywhere on our roads. But however long it takes, the technology has the potential to change our transportation systems and our cities, for better or for worse, depending on how the transformation is regulated.
While much of the debate so far has been focused on the safety of driverless cars (and rightfully so), policymakers also should be talking about how self-driving vehicles can help reduce traffic jams, cut emissions(排放)and offer more convenient, affordable mobility options. The arrival of driverless vehicles is a chance to make sure that those vehicles are environmentally friendly and more shared.
Do we want to copy—or even worsen—the traffic of today with driverless cars Imagine a future where most adults own individual self-driving vehicles. They tolerate long, slow journeys to and from work on packed highways because they can work, entertain themselves or sleep on the ride, which encourages urban spread. They take their driverless car to an appointment and set the empty vehicle to circle the building to avoid paying for parking. Instead of walking a few blocks to pick up a child or the dry cleaning, they send the self-driving minibus. The convenience even leads fewer people to take public transport—an unwelcome side effect researchers have already found in ride-hailing(叫车) services.
A study from the University of California at Davis suggested that replacing petrol-powered private cars worldwide with electric, self-driving and shared systems could reduce carbon emissions from transportation 80% and cut the cost of transportation infrastructure (基础设施) and operations 40% by 2050. Fewer emissions and cheaper travel sound pretty appealing. The first commercially available driverless cars will almost certainly be fielded by ride-hailing services, considering the cost of self-driving technology as well as liability and maintenance issues (责任与维护问题). But driverless car ownership could increase as the prices drop and more people become comfortable with the technology.
Policymakers should start thinking now about how to make sure the appearance of driverless vehicles doesn't extend the worst aspects of the car-controlled transportation system we have today. The coming technological advancement presents a chance for cities and states to develop transportation systems designed to move more people, and more affordably. The car of the future is coming. We just have to plan for it.
1.According to the author, attention should be paid to how driverless cars can _______.
A.help deal with transportation-related problems
B.provide better services to customers
C.cause damage to our environment
D.make some people lose jobs
2.As for driverless cars, what is the author's major concern
A.Safety. B.Side effects. C.Affordability. D.Management.
3.What does the underlined word "fielded" in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Employed. B.Replaced. C.Shared. D.Reduced.
4.What is the author's attitude to the future of self-driving cars
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Disapproving. D.Sympathetic.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写词数应为150左右。
Last year at Christmas time, my wife, three children and I were on our way from Paris to Nice. Somehow everything went wrong. Our hotels were "tourist traps" and our rented car broke down. On Christmas Eve, when we checked into a dirty hotel in Nice, there was no Christmas spirit in our hearts.
It was raining and cold when we went out to eat. We found a small restaurant poorly decorated for the holiday. Only five tables in the restaurant were taken. There were two German couples, two French families, and an American sailor, by himself. They were eating in stony silence except the sailor. He was writing a letter, and a half-smile lighted his face. In the corner a piano player was listlessly (无精打采地) playing Christmas music.
All of us were interrupted by an old French flower woman through the front door. She had a worn overcoat and her old shoes were wet. Carrying her basket of flowers, she went from one table to another. No one bought any. Exhausted and frustrated, she sat down at a table.
The sailor finished his meal and got up to leave. Putting on his coat, he walked over to the flower woman's table.
"Merry Christmas," he said, smiling and picking out a handful of flowers. "How much are they "
"Two francs, sir."
The sailor put a twenty-franc note in the woman's hand.
"I don't have change, sir," she said. "I'll get some from the waiter."
"No, ma'am," said the sailor, leaning over and kissing the ancient cheek. "This is my Christmas present for you."
Paragraph 1:
Then the sailor headed for our table with the flowers in his hand.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

9.答案:
Paragraph 1:
Then the sailor headed for our table with the flowers in his hand. He picked out a red flower and placed it on our table. "Merry Christmas!" he greeted us in a cheerful voice. Before we could say "Thank you", he went to other tables. In an instant, everyone in the room was presented with flowers, including the waiter and the piano player. In the bright light, the flowers were glowing in full bloom. These magical flowers melted our frustrated hearts and blew away all the unpleasant moods.
Paragraph 2:
The piano player came alive and pleasant music filled the whole room. A festival atmosphere drowned all of us. We merrily danced to the joyful music, singing, laughing and wishing each other good luck. The old flower woman also joined us, unable to conceal her excitement and gratitude. The spirit of Christmas came back to us again. It brought all of us together in this small restaurant on a foreign land. All this was due to a young American sailor, who, through his kindness and generosity, brightened our paths.
