If it had not been for Fan Jinshi and her team, the world cultural heritage(遗产) at Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in a remote Chinese desert might have long been destroyed by sand, weather or humans.
Fan has spent more than half a century fighting an uphill battle to preserve the ancient Buddhist wall paintings at Dunhuang, in Northwest China's Gansu Province. Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes are a huge collection of Buddhist art—more than 2,000 Buddha figures and 45,000 square meters of paintings spread among 735 caves. It is one of China's UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Archaeologist Fan was sent to Dunhuang after graduating from Peking University in 1963. While in Dunhuang, a remote village in the desert then, Fan lived in an abandoned temple. At first, she did not even dare to go out to the toilet at night. To protect the treasures from sand and dampness, Fan and other workers put doors on the caves, planted trees and started monitoring temperature and humidity(湿度) in the caves. They also controlled the number of visitors.
In the late 1990s, with tourism booming nationwide since national holidays were extended, the local government planned to go public with Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, but found Fan firmly in their way. "The heritage would have been destroyed if it had been listed," she said.
Dunhuang Academy has now photographed and catalogued online all the sculptures and paintings. "Despite our efforts to minimize damage, we can't completely stop them from being eroded(腐蚀). But the digital database will last."
Fan was grateful when her husband joined her in Dunhuang in 1986 after 19 years of separation. Her two sons grew up in Shanghai with their aunt. "I have not been a good mother or wife. With regard to my family, I'm full of guilt," she said. Fan, 81, retired four years ago as the director of Dunhuang Academy but continues her efforts as an honorary president of Dunhuang Academy.

A. Opening Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes to the public extensively.
B. Planting trees and stopping Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes being eroded.
C. Picturing and classifying all the sculptures and paintings online.
D. Putting doors on the caves and monitoring temperature and humidity.
2. When was Fan separated from her husband
A. In 1963. B. In 1967. C. In 1986. D. In the late 1990s.
3. What kind of person do you think Fan is

After finishing my teaching for a school year, I thought that I should go back to Montreal, Quebec, my hometown for a visit. My main goal was to relax in preparation for the challenges of my retirement in the coining year.
Through my stay in Montreal, I met lots of Chinese who are struggling to succeed and then lead a better life in Canada. Some travelled thousands of miles to get knowledge. When I spoke with some of them about the major barrier(障碍) they had to face after they arrived in Canada, they all talked about the two official languages of Canada. But I was impressed by their ability to express their ideas while switching between English and French.
Almost all of those people said they often felt homesick. They missed their families and friends. Though Montreal has lots of Chinese restaurants, they longed for a home-cooked meal.
I met some tourists who were trying to realize their childhood dreams of experiencing the life in a developed country. When I asked them if Montreal had lived up to their expectations, they hesitated. They said that reality never agreed with fantasies. However, they were glad to have the opportunity to visit Montreal and didn't regret taking the trip.
Not all the Chinese people I met were happy. I once met a young lady who met with a gentleman through the Internet. However, to her disappointment, he disappeared after he promised to marry her in Montreal.
I was served by another Chinese person who could not handle the challenges of studying in an English-speaking environment and ended up working in a restaurant with low pay.
Exploring different parts of the world, without any doubt, is a rich experience. However, one should be realistic when it comes to leaving his hometown to start a new life in a foreign country. One should take time to examine the advantages and the shortcomings of the adventure before he decides to chase an uncertain dream of achieving success or leading a better life.
1.Why did the writer go to his hometown

C.To go on with his teaching. D.To prepare for his retirement life.

A.overseas Chinese are good at communication in Canada
B.the trip to Montreal is a good chance for people to study
C.overseas Chinese feel disappointed at their life in Canada
D.people should think carefully before chasing their dreams abroad
4.What is the best title for the passage
A.Improving Life Skills in Canada B.Exploring Different Parts of Canada
C.Struggling for a Better Life in Canada D.Going to Canada—Your Ideal Destination

With the development of our society, cellphones have become a common part in our lives. Have you ever run into a careless cellphone user in the street Maybe they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new "species" of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name—phubbers (低头族).
Recently a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cellphone while letting his patient die. A pretty woman takes a selfie (自拍) in front of a car accident site. And a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events will finally lead to the destruction(毁灭) of the world.
Although the ending of the film sounds unrealistic, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and the result of it. "Always bending your head to check your cellphone could damage your neck," Guangming Daily quoted doctors' words. "The neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching." Also, staring at cellphones for a long time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. When getting together with family or friends, many people prefer to play their cellphones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
It can also cost your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cellphones in broad daylight.

4.What will be talked about in the following paragraph

C.Daily life of phubbers. D.Behaviours of phubbers.

The bell rang, announcing the end of the vivid art class Karson loved most. He was delighted that he had created a very satisfying work. So he walked to the back of the classroom to put his work away carefully. There, lying on the carpet in front of the classroom bookcase, was a golden ticket! Karson picked it up. His heart beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank. He couldn't believe his luck!
The boys and girls in Karson's class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their study or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week their teacher drew a ticket out of a box on her desk and let the winner choose a prize.
Today was the golden ticket drawing, and here was another ticket, just for him! Karson looked around. No one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other. Miss Evans was engaged in grading the papers collected early in the morning.
Karson decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize box with the six tickets he'd already earned. With so many chances, one of his tickets would most probably be picked! Then he could choose the pink toy pig for his sister's birthday, just like he had been hoping.
He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest, and it wasn't his heartbeat. "It's ' finders keepers ', right " he wondered. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out. On the one hand, he did find the ticket, but he hadn't earned it. Somebody must have lost it. But on the other hand, he did need tis extra ticket for his great plan!

Karson stared at the blank name line for a moment. He knew his plan wouldn't be so great if he won with a ticket that didn't belong to him. So he walked up to his teacher. "Miss Evans, I happened to find this ticket on the floor near the bookcase. I think the one who lost it will look for it. And these are mine," he said, dropping his six tickets into the box. When he turned around to leave, the teacher stopped him.
Paragraph 2:
"Karson, I'd like you to have another ticket!" said Miss Evans. Karson was amazed and wondered why. Miss Evans smiled and signed to the class to quiet down, "Karson handed in the golden ticket he had just found. I think he is honest and deserves another one!" The class burst into loud applause. Karson happily went back to his seat, eagerly expecting the ticket drawing. He still wanted his name to be picked, but he would feel OK even if it wasn't. After all, making the right choice did make him feel great!
