A卷
A
As the COVID-19 continues to spread, officials in China are urging citizens to wear masks in public to stop the spread of the coronavirus (冠状病毒)—and cities in China as well as other parts of Asia are reportedly running out of face masks.
But can a mask really keep you from catching the vims To answer that, it helps to clarify which kinds of masks we're talking about. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is suggesting that health care workers treat it like an airborne germ that can travel in particles(微粒) or droplets in the air. That means health care workers interacting with a coronavirus patient should wear a heavy-duty mask called an N95 respirator(口罩). These respirators are designed to fit tightly around the nose and mouth, and, when worn correctly, they block out at least 95% of small airborne particles, according to the CDC.
But wearing an N95 respirator is a serious business, says Dr. William Schaffner of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Health care workers who use these respirators are required by law to experience an annual fit test—a check to make sure the mask forms a tight seal on the wearer's face so that contaminated air can't leak in. Although the N95 respirator is disposable, workers must also show that they know how to put on and wear the model that they are using.
While N95 respirators are available for the public to buy, there's no official suggestion from health agencies for the general public to wear them.
By contrast, surgical masks—those cheap, disposable, gauzy masks that often come in blue or green—are less uncomfortable. But Schaffner says the scientific evidence that "there might be a great benefit for people in the community wearing surgical face masks'' is very, very meager. The general sense is perhaps, but they're certainly not an absolute protection. In other words, they do provide some benefit but they're far from foolproof.
1. What's the author's attitude toward the general public wearing N95 respirators
A. Cautious. B. Favourable. C. Casual. D. Admiring.
2. What does the underlined word in the last paragraph mean
A. Totally strong. B. Very necessary.

B. Can a mask really keep you from catching the coronavirus
C. How to prevent the coronavirus from spreading
D. Could surgical masks replace N95 respirators

Every summer, my family and I visit our relatives in India and whenever we travel, my parents always remind me to drink only bottled or boiled water. On one of my trips to India, I saw children drinking water from the roadside. I was troubled to learn that millions of people, most of them children in developing countries, die each year because of water-related diseases.
Living in the US, I am lucky to be able to turn on the tap and get potable water (饮用水), while one sixth of the world's population lacks access to clean water. This year, I entered the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. In late June, I learnt that I was selected as one of the top 10 national finalists of this famous middle school science competition. Over the summer, I worked with Dr Jim Jonza, my scientist mentor (导师) from 3M, and developed a system that uses solar energy to purify water. My invention is green and cost-effective, and I am looking forward to implementing this in places that are affected by harmful water pollution.
In October, my family and I flew to 3M headquarters in St Paul, Minnesota, where the final event was to be held. For the last challenge, each of us had to present the invention we had been working on over the summer. The first place winner would win $25,000, a trip to Costa Rica, and the title of America's Top Young Scientist. At the awards ceremony, all of us waited anxiously until one of the judges, Danny Forester, started announcing "The winner, he Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge is..." You could hear a pin (大头针) drop as he opened the paper with the winner's name, "Deepika Kurup!"
As America's Top Young Scientist. I was given an opportunities to show my invention on national television and deliver several presentations. One of the most important things I have learnt is that communication and teamwork are key to success.

Mary Lyon was a leader in women's education in the nineteenth century. It was a time when women's education was not considered important in the United States. States did require each town to provide a school for children, but there were not. enough teachers. Most young women were not able to continue their education. If they did, they often were not taught much except the French language, how to sew clothing, and music.
Mary Lyon felt that women's education was extremely important. She believed women were teachers both in the home and in the classroom. Mary opened a school for young women in the village of Buckland. She suggested new ways of teaching, including holding discussion groups for students.
Then, Mary began to raise money for her dream school for the higher education of women. This school would own its own property, guided by an independent group of directors. Its finances would be the responsibility of the directors. It would not depend on any one person to continue. And, the students would share in cleaning and cooking to keep costs down. In 1837, Mary Lyon opened Mount Holyoke Seminary for Women. In 1893, 44 years after her death, under a state law, Mount Holyoke Female Seminary became the first college to offer women the same kind of education as men.
Mary's efforts led to the spread of higher education for women in the United States. Her influence lasted as the many students from her schools went out to teach others.

Every March, the country celebrates the achievements of women in American history. Even though these achievements go back a long way, most schools didn't start focusing on women pioneers and their achievements until recently. Today, most schools teach kids about the many contributions women have made to our country. How did this change come about
On March 19, 1911, a German woman named Clara Zetkin organized the very first International Women's Day. Inspired by American working women, the event took on the causes of peace in an effort to end World War I as well as women's rights. However, people's interest in International Women's Day still dwindled over the years. It gained momentum (势头) again in the 1960's when the women's movement caused women to wonder why they weren't included in the history books.
By the 1970s, more female historians began to look back at women's contributions in history. In 1978, a California school district started Women's History Week to promote the teaching of women's history. School officials picked the week of March 8 to include International Women's Day. It was so popular that, in 1981, Congress passed a resolution, making the week a celebration for the entire country. The concept of studying women's history continued to grow in popularity. In 1987, a group of women asked Congress to expand the celebration. That same year, Congress declared the entire month of March National Women’s History Month.
Today, schools and communities across the country celebrate the month with special lessons and activities designed to teach the ways women have helped shape the US. The women who have worked hard to make Women's History Month a reality would like to see women's history studied all year, not just every March. In 1996, the National Women's History Museum was founded It is a commonweal (公益) organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the various historic contributions of women. The organization is working with Congress to open a permanent (永久的) museum site in Washington D. C.

It was time to go home. "Remember to work on your class speeches for homework." Miss Walker called, as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored with listening to her. Once, when Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jenny sighed.
As she turned the comer, she saw Lee's watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn't want to run after him.
Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practising her speech. Words just flooded out of her, "I'm going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I've won lots of competitions. But when I'm in a race, I'm not really thinking about winning. I'm just loving the feeling of being in the water..." Jenny laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flash of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee's watch really did have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there was a shout from behind. "She's stolen my watch!" Lee said angrily. "It went missing at school yesterday."

While N95 respirators are available for the public to buy, there's no official suggestion from health agencies for the general public to wear them"可推知,作者对于大众佩戴N95口罩的态度非常谨慎。
The general sense is perhaps, but they're certainly not an absolute protection. In other words, they do provide some benefit but they're far from foolproof"可知,人们佩戴医用口罩会有很大益处的科学证据不充分。
Bin can a mask really keep you from catching the virus "可知,本文论述的重点是佩戴口罩是否能阻止新型冠状病毒的传播。
I was troubled to learn that millions of people, most of them children in developing countries, die each year because of water-related diseases.
My invention is green and cost-effective
You could hear a pin drop as he opened the paper with the winner's name可知,宣布获奖名单时,你甚至可以听到大头针落地的声音。
故选A项。
Most young women were not able to continue their education. If they did, they often were not taught much except the French language, how to sew clothing, and music.
Mary Lyon felt that women's education was extremely important. 以及 Mary opened a school for young women in the village of Buckland.
This school would own its own property, guided by an independent group of directors...It would not depend on any one person to continue.
Mary's efforts led to the spread of higher education for women in the United States. Her influence lasted as the many students from her schools went out to teach others.
Even though these achievements go back a long way, most schools didn't start focusing on women pioneers and their achievements until recently.
由第四段第四句It is a commonweal (公益) organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the various historic contributions of women.
There, you'll have an opportunity to find and buy all the necessary sportswear."
Actually, it usually just takes you 15 minutes to increase the range of motion of our joints and warm up every muscle of the body."
No matter how healthy you're, you should always pay attention to how your body reacts."
I hope these tips will help you prepare yourself for jogging and avoid some serious issues."
6.答案:1-5.ADCCA; 6-10.ABABA; 11-15.DBCAD
I never went to university but always thought about it可知,作者没上过大学,所以作者“上”大学的唯一方法就是听孩子们谈论他们正在上的有趣的课。故选A项。
I still thought about that old dream...
3.根据空后的one day when there was an Advanced-Age...
My first day of school finally arrived.
5.根据My first day of school finally arrived. sign up意为“报名;登记”;turn up意为“出现;把(声音等)调高”;keep up意为“保持;继续”;make up意为“组成;化妆;编造”。故选A项。
6.根据后句中的What am I doing 及I probably won't live long enough等可知,作者此时头脑中满是消极的想法。故选A项。
7.根据空后的will laugh when they see me in class可知,作者此时已经年纪很大,因此怕班里的孩子们会笑话他。故选B项。
故选A项。
A large billboard on the side of the toad with a picture of Kermit the Frog. 故选A项。
12.根据前文的 will laugh when they see me in class可知,作者刚开始态度比较消极,故此处表示新的态度正在抵达内心。故选B项。
故选A项。
7.答案: meaning; As; highest; is marked; to; celebration; traditionally; is; that/ which; noodles
依据上文中的"the sun rises higher and higher"和"one of the great turning points"及常识可知,太阳在夏至这一天是最高的,故用最高级。
When it comes to...
本句的主语是"eating lychees(荔枝) during summer solstice",因此谓语动词用is。
