在西方国家，学生一旦不小心在学校里丢失了东西，就会写一个Lost便条，上面写出所丢物品以及联系方式。同样，当人们拾到了物品，会以同样的方式在纸上写一个Found便条。
也有些学校会专门设立一个失物招领处，例如：Lost and Found(box, office, room, desk…), 便于大家找回丢失的物品。
启事的格式和内容安排
⑴ 标题：要以Lost和Found作为标题放在启事上方正中，
也可以顶格写。
⑵ 内容：寻物启事要包括丢失的物品和其特点、丢失的时间、地点以及失主的有关信息等；失物招领启事的正文包括招领物品、拾到时间、地点以及失主认领物品的地点或联系方式。
