2022-2023学年北师大版(2019)必修第一册:Unit 1 Life Choices
A
In our increasingly fast-paced, technology-driven world, most adults do not get the 8—10 hours of sleep every night. Things are even worse for those with young children. A recent study showed that 86% of parents in the UK complained of tiredness and about 26% got less than 5 hours of sleep every night. To give tired parents a little relaxation from their tight schedules, David Lloyd Clubs, a chain of gyms and fitness centers in Europe, has introduced a napping(小憩) class!
As the name suggests, the hour-long group class, described as a way to "refresh the mind, improve moods, and even burn the odd calories (卡路里)", does not involve any hard exercise. Instead, the members are guided through 15 minutes of light stretching(伸展) to help them relax. Then, they are encouraged to lie under the blankets of a comfortable bed, cover their eyes with an eye mask, and take a nap for 45 minutes. With music playing in the background and the room set to the perfect temperature, they can be assured of the best sleep. The class is now being offered at just one place. If popular, it will be expanded(延伸) to other David Lloyd Clubs.
Do you know the good points of naps A study conducted by Pennsylvania's Allegheny College found that midday naps not only help participants feel well-rested, but also enable them to deal with stress better. A follow-up study carried out at the University of California at Berkeley concluded that a 45-minute nap in the middle of the day helps to improve the learning abilities. The good news is that you do not have to make a trip to the U. K. to join this latest exercise fashion. You can get involved with the comfort of your own bed. So, go ahead and encourage your entire family to try a napping class.
1. Which idea does the study support
A. Parents often suffer from stress. B. Students shouldn't have tight schedules.
C. There should be more gym classes. D. Naps contribute to your good health.
2. What does the underlined word "it" in the second paragraph refer to
A. The class member. B. The trainer.
C. The napping class. D. The organiser.
3. What is the passage
A. An introduction. B. An advertisement.
C. A medical report. D. A school report.

I live in New York City, and my neighbours are people I don't know. My city, neighbourhood and block are filled with people who don't know me, don't care to know me, and don't talk to me. I find that it's pretty hard to love people you don't even know. And sometimes, we all, myself included, use that as an excuse not to try. I read Brendan's story recently and was moved.
One day, Brendan, a young man in New York, was on the way back to his Brooklyn apartment when a homeless woman called Jackie asked him for money. He said that he had no money. By the end of the week, she asked two more times, and each time he answered "No". The woman looked sad, so Brendan said, 1. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1
A. He often stays indoors.
"I am on my way to a job interview. If I get the job, I will take you out for Chinese food."
Brendan got the job. He took Jackie out for lunch. That was when their friendship began. They built a strong friendship by supporting each other and spending their birthdays, holidays and difficult times together, over a period of eight years. When Brendan's heater broke, Jackie made a blanket for him. Two days later when he told her that he had lost his job, she left and returned minutes later, bringing him food to eat. She continued to do that during the whole winter Even with so little, she often gave back.
Over these years, Jackie moved from the streets and subway stations into a halfway house, and is now moving into an apartment. To celebrate it, Brendan wanted to do something special for Jackie. He went with her to Target, and helped her to pick out everything she would need for her new apartment.
May Brendan's story encourage us to find a new way to honour, serve and love the people around us.
1. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1
A. He often stays indoors.
B. He cares about his neighbours.
C. He is good at making friends.

4. What does the underlined word "it" in paragraph 4 refer to
A. Jackie's finding work at Target.
B. Jackie's moving from the streets.
C. Jackie's moving into an apartment.
D. Jackie's moving into a halfway house.
C
As children we are well-trained to find the right answer. We are rewarded for A's, the honour roll and acing the test. Our education trains us to follow the rules and deliver the expected answers. When we do, awards and congratulations follow. Yet when we grow up, it gets a little harder. Life and careers don't have tests with an A if we get the "right" answer.
I recently had coffee with a college student who will graduate. She is struggling with what she wants for her career. She wants her parents to be proud of her and to continue the success she has had in school. She also talked about other students in her graduating class who are set to do "some big things", like working for impressive companies. Yet she wasn't sure of the right answer for using her degree. She said that deep down she was hoping that someone might give her the answer.
We both agreed that it comes down to not looking for the right answer but her answer. The grown-up definition of the "right answer" is different from that in school. What would you do if you weren't afraid It takes time to know these answers. And they can change over time and at any point in your career. My encouragement is to get valued advice and input, of course, but finally to look within yourself for the answers. It helps to come back to:
What do I want to be known for What is my definition of success What am I best at
If I had no fears, what would I do
What is one step I can take today to move me towards my goal (even if it's not perfectly clear)
I find these types of questions are more helpful in getting to our unique answer rather than "right answer" questions, such as: What will my parents want What degree or job will mark me as accomplished to the world What is my best option based on where I work today
1. What does the author mean to say in the first paragraph
A. Life is harder for adults than children.
B. Academic excellence is not necessary.
C. It is not helpful to follow the rules in school.
D. Rules in life are different from those in school.
2. What is wrong with the college student
A. She does badly in her studies.
B. Her parents are not proud of her.
C. She feels puzzled about her life career.
D. She is not sure whether to do "some big things".
3. When looking for the answer in life, you need to _____.
A. trust your parents
B. listen to your heart
C. follow valued advice
D. learn from your classmates
4. Which of the following questions might not help you to seek your answer
A. What do I love to do
B. What matters most to me in life
C. What will make me look successful
D. What will I regret not doing when I'm 80
D
"The price of books for our students is just getting higher and higher, combined with the rising cost of tuition, and it's killing these students," said Peter Jason, a college professor. "Remember, students are one of the poorest groups of people in America. Almost half of them have at least one part-time job. In fact, one of my students has three jobs. And she still manages to have high scores and go to school full-time."
Textbook prices are traditionally high. What's more, many college teachers change textbooks year after year; they either upgrade to a new edition or switch to an entirely different textbook. This further hurts students because if an instructor no longer uses a particular textbook, that book has no resale value.
Dr. Jason decided to make reading a little easier and a lot cheaper for his students by writing his own book on public speaking. "Many books have an increased price due to CD-ROMs, lots of color photographs and pictures. I talked to my students, and many of them, like me, prefer to keep things simple! So, a few years ago, I wrote my own pared to most other public speaking books, mine is half the number of pages, and one-third the price. That is, $30 instead of $90. When I wrote a second edition last year, students only had to buy the 35 new pages. For only $7, they had almost a new book. Now my loose-leaf textbook enjoys great popularity among the students. Maybe in the future more writers and publishers will try it."
1. What did Dr. Jason say about students at college
A. They are short of money. B. They need better textbooks.
C. They should do part-time jobs. D. They are trying to get high scores.
2. What did Dr. Jason decide to do to help the students
A. To choose cheaper textbooks. B. To write a textbook himself.
C. To speak to his students. D. To use old textbooks.
3. How much does a public speaking textbook usually cost
A. About 7 dollars. B. About 30 dollars. C. About 37 dollars. D. About 90 dollars.
4. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage
A. Dr. Jason's textbook has CD-ROMs and nice pictures.
B. More writers and publishers will write simpler textbooks.
C. Dr. Jason teaches public speaking at a college.
D. Dr. Jason's textbook is not well received.

第二节 (满分25分)

When Lisa was a little girl, she learned an important lesson from her father. Her father told her that when she faced a problem, she should try another solution instead of giving up. In the following years, Lisa always remembers her father's words.
When Lisa was little, she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer after growing up. It was always her dream. But it was not an easy road.
After leaving college, Lisa went to Paris with her designs in order to make her dream come true. In Paris, she tried to talk to famous designers and show them some of her designs, but none of them showed any interest.
Though Lisa was discouraged, she didn't give up. One day, at a friend's party, she was introduced to a young lady who was dressed in a beautiful knitted(针织的) sweater. It wasn't a fancy color, but it did have very special stitches (编织法). Lisa asked that lady if she knitted it herself after talking with her for a while. The lady said it was the work of a lady in Paris.
Lisa really loved the special stitches and wanted to include them in her designs. And then Lisa had an even braver idea. "Why not own a fashion store of my own That way, I could design, make and sell my own clothes," she thought. So she decided to begin with that kind of sweater.
Later Lisa's friend introduced her to Madam Dean who knitted that sweater. The lady was from Armenia and she learned to knit that kind of sweater from people in her country.
Lisa drew a picture of a sweater and asked Madam Dean to knit the sweater for her. Madam Dean agreed. One week later, Lisa got the sweater. The following day after Lisa received it, she wore it to a party in the fashion industry.
Lisa was very nervous but she was lucky. Not long after the party began, her sweater drew the attention of a store owner from New York. She wanted to order forty such sweaters in two weeks. Lisa was really happy and accepted the order.
Paragraph 1:
The next day, Lisa told the good news to Madam Dean. ______________________________________

2.推理判断题。根据"The class is now being offered at just one place... expanded(延伸) to other David Lloyd Clubs."可知这门课现在只在一个地方被提供。如果受欢迎的话,它将会扩展到其他的David Lloyd Clubs,由此可知it指代的是"小憩课"。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据第一段最后一句"To give tired parents a little relaxation from their tight schedules, David Lloyd Clubs, a chain of gyms and fitness centers in Europe, has introduced a napping(小憩) class!"可知,为了让疲劳的父母们从紧张的日程中得到一点放松,David Lloyd Clubs推出了小憩课,再纵观全文可知本文是对小憩课的介绍。故选A。

8.答案:
Dear Miss Worried,
I'm sorry to know that you're having difficulty falling asleep. The truth is that everyone will face great pressure when entering high school, so you don't have to worry so much. Here are three tips.
First, talk to someone you trust about how you feel. This is a good way of sharing your feelings and getting support. Second, go outdoors and play team games with your friends as physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of pressure. And third, work out a schedule and follow it. This way, you can make good use of your time.
I hope you'll find them useful.
Yours,
Li Hua
