Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
Eric was standing in front of a large grey house in the countryside. He had just been dropped off by his mum, who left after telling him that he was going to spend the next twelve days there with no TV, no mobile phone and — worse of all — no computer.
Suddenly, a man appeared at the entrance of the house. When he saw Eric, he went up to him immediately. ‘You must be Eric. Welcome to the camp,’ said the man confidently. ‘I’m Tony, the camp leader, but you will call me “Sir”. Now tell me why you’re here.’
Eric quickly replied, ‘My mum made me come!’ When Tony looked at him angrily and did not say anything, Eric realized his mistake and added, ‘Sir!’
‘And do you know why your mother sent you here ’ asked Tony.
‘She thinks I spend too much time online. Sir,’ answered Eric. ‘It’s not just her opinion — it’s the truth! Look at you — pale, unfit, and definitely not getting enough sleep. You’re here because you think the virtual world is much better than the real world. But you’re wrong! The real world has much more to offer. At the camp, you’re going to go hiking, rowing, rock-climbing and stay outdoors most of the time,’ promised Tony.
Eric’s heart sank.
‘But it’s not going to be all fun and games,’ Tony continued. ‘We have rules here. If you break them, you’ll get punished. But you won’t simply get detention (课后留校), and you can forget about suspension (停学) — you’ll never be sent home early! Instead, you’ll clean the toilets, wash the dishes or do an extra hour of exercise!’
‘Oh Mum,’ sighed Eric. ‘What have you got me into ’

Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
Creative thinking isn’t just for art classes. Any time you try something different to solve a problem, you’re being creative. In sports, that might mean trying new moves to score a goal for your team. In engineering, that might mean using different materials to protect an egg. At home, it could mean figuring out a shortcut to get to your friend’s house or making up a game to enjoy yourself. You are creative every day!
Are some people naturally more creative than others
Maybe, but anyone can get more creative with practice. Here are some skills that work for professional people who are creative in very different ways.
Explore and Imagine
Shigeru Miyamoto is the brains behind Super Mario Bros, one of the world’s most popular video games. He spent hours exercising his creativity by exploring nature and going on adventures in his mind. He finds joy in making up new worlds and adventures to design new games.
Look for mix-up
Dr. Oxman and her team mix things that don’t usually go together. For example, they mixed ideas from common robots and insects when they invented small robots. Dr. Oxman said she often doubted her ideas. If you come up with ideas you’re not sure about, don’t worry.
Keep Creating
Miranda wrote the songs for Disney’s movie Moana. In an interview, he was asked if he kept writing new songs, his answer: “Always!”
Fear no failure
Researchers have found that the most creative people don’t wait for the perfect idea. They constantly(不断地) come up with new ideas, then keep the best of them. Also, like most inventors and scientists, creative people _________________________________________.

Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答下列问题)
A Backcountry Adventure
Sunday, July l0th
We are back from our three-day camping trip to the Shenandoah Valley. Mom and Dad had been worried about our family’s reliance on computers, cell phones, and video games for entertainment. So they decided a camping trip would help us overcome our dependence on electronic devices. I knew we’d have to be resilient (适应力强的) in order to find a way to survive without the comforts of home.
When you camp in the backcountry, you could only bring necessities that you needed to survive, such as food, clothes, a camp stove, fuel, rope, a map, and a water container. At first, I was surprised that we weren’t bringing bottled water with us. Then my heavy, overstuffed backpack made me realize we’d soon use up any supply we could carry. Instead, we’d have to boil water from nearby streams.
Our first day in the wild was out of expectation. We scrabbled up rocky paths and waded in an ice-cold stream. Colourful wildflowers waved at us. I felt like I had stepped into a dreamy painting. After all that exercise, an intense hunger burned in my stomach. Mom’s homemade snacks had never tasted so good.
At night, the darkness seemed like a black curtain. I tried to read with an electric torch, but I couldn’t concentrate. I finally fell asleep to a chorus of chirping crickets (蟋蟀鸣叫声中).
By our last day, I had blistered (长水泡的) feet and bug-bitten arms. I was ready to go home. I couldn’t wait to play computer games. But a funny thing happened. Soon after I started my favorite game, I lost the interest. So I walked outside to get some fresh air. Mom and Dad’s plan had worked after all. Right then I decided to spend more time outdoors.

Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题)
Far away across the sea lies a country called Holland. Holland is a very low country, and it lies close to the ocean. Nothing but the strong dykes (堤坝) keep the angry waves away from the very doors of the houses in Holland. People must carefully guard the strong sea walls. They know that their homes and their lives would be in danger from the water of the sea if the dykes were broken.
One day, a little boy named Peter was playing in the garden by his home in Holland when his mother called him. “Peter,” she said, “I want you to carry this basket of cheese to your grandmother. Go straight upon your way, without playing. You must be back home before supper.”
Peter took the basket that held the cheese, and went on his way. He did not stop to gather the pretty flowers that grew by the wayside, nor to play with the boys who called to him from the field. He did what he was told, and soon he reached his grandmother’s house.
It was already almost dark. He left his basket, gave his grandmother a kiss and left to go home. His path lay beside the dyke. In the quiet evening air, he heard a sound which made his heartbeat quick and fast. Peter knew the meaning of the fearful sound. It meant that 83 .
Before morning, even before Peter could get men to help, the water would be pouring over the land. What could a boy do Quickly, he ran to the spot from which the water trickled (滴、淌). He pushed his hand into the hole in the dyke. Then he called aloud for help. He listened. No answer came to his call, but he could hear that the water was no longer dripping. It became dark. Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题)
Working as a part-time assistant in a shop is a way for young people to earn some extra money. For me, it is more than twenty dollars per hour.
Like other eighteen-year-old girls, I chose to work in a clothing shop. On the first day, I was trained to fold and organize platform after platform of clothes. The work didn’t seem easy to me because everything had to be done in an accurate way. I felt a little impatient because I couldn’t get it right the first couple of times. The manager told me not to be impatient and taught me skills on how to finish the work well. After hundreds of tries, I had the clothes folded perfectly. Then it took me thirty minutes to get them all looking uniform. Now, I fold and organize clothes in the shop every day, and I am able to do them well. Through this experience, I’ve learned patience can help me in the work.
Helping customers and connecting with them are the things I love most in the shop. About three weeks ago, I helped an old lady who was looking for a special dress. She told me exactly what she was picturing—a blue dress with long sleeves and a lace neck. We didn’t have any such dress, and when I explained that to her, she wasn’t very happy. Instead of getting impatient, I tried getting to learn about her interest first. We shared our love of the fashion show. I also asked her what the dress was for, so I could help her get the clothes she liked. Everything I did worked. She found other items she liked and finally bought some new blouses and jeans worth of $300. This experience has taught me how to meet customers’ needs.
I’ve experienced frustrations and challenges in the work. To do well, I must learn to deal with them. The work experience changed me a lot and helped me in other aspects of my life as well.
