when为疑问副词，常用来询问时间，意为“什么时候”。When is sb.'s birthday？是用来询问某人生日是何时的常用句型，意为“……的生日是什么时候？”，其答语为：Sb.'s birthday/It is＋日期，这里的Sb.'s要用形容词性物主代词或名词所有格。
如：—When is her birthday？她的生日什么时候？
—Her birthday is on August 9th.她的生日是八月九日。
on常用在表示星期几或具体某一日及某一日的上午、下午或晚上的名词前。
如：on May 4th 在五月四日
【拓展】表示在某一节日，也用介词on。
如：on Teachers' Day 在教师节
in常用在年、月、季节、世纪及表示泛指的上午、下午或晚上的名词前。
如：in March 在三月；in the morning 在早上
at常用在表示某一具体时刻的名词前。如：at ten 在十点；at noon 在正午
概念：表示事物的顺序的数词叫做序数词，它的作用相当于名词或形容词。
构成：
①变异类：one→first(第一)；two→second(第二)；three→third(第三)。
②普通类：第四至第十九均在相应的基数词后加 th，但第五(fifth)和第十二(twelfth)均把基数词five和twelve词尾的ve改为f，再加 th。基数词eight的序数词，直接在后加 h，即eighth。基数词nine的序数词，将词尾的e去掉，再加 th，即ninth。
③“ty类”：即以“ty”结尾的整十的序数词是把对应的基数词的最后一个字母y变为i，再加 eth。
如：twenty(第二十)→twentieth；forty→fortieth(第四十)
④几十几类：表示“几十几”的基数词变序数词时，只将个位变为序数词，十位数不变。
如：twenty three→twenty third(第二十三)
【注意】序数词的前面往往加定冠词the，但当序数词前有物主代词、指示代词等修饰时，则不必再加the。
