1. —How do you study for a test 你是怎样准备考试的?
—I study by working with a group. 我通过和小组成员合作学习。
how引导特殊疑问句,常用来提问by引导的方式状语。
by表示“通过……方法、手段”等。
by doing sth. 意为“通过……(方法、途径)做某事”
①by+交通工具,意为“乘/驾/坐……”。 I went to Beijing by plane.
②by+时间,意为“不迟于;在……之前”。 I must be in bed by ten o’clock.
③by+地点,意为“在……旁边”。 We live by the sea.
妙辨异同】 by/in/with的用法辨析
by 表示“通过……方法、手段”等。by doing sth. 意为“通过……(方法、途径)做某事”
I study English by making word cards.
in 用某种材料(如用墨水、铅笔等)或用某种语言或者表示衣着、声调、特点等
I take notes in class in pencil.
with 使用工具、方法或人体部位等

组成其它短语:
by the way :意为“顺便说”、“顺便问一 下”, 常作插入语。
By the way, what are you going to do tomorrow
顺便问一下,明天你打算做什么呢?
by oneself :意为“单独”、“自己”。
Grandpa Li lives in the old house by himself. 李爷爷一个人住在老房子里。
learn...by oneself :意为“自学”。
Mary is great, she learns to dance by herself. 玛丽真了不起,她自学舞蹈。
2. What about reading aloud to practice pronunciation 大声朗读练习发音怎么样?
1) what about + V-ing/ n./ pron. 常用来征求对方的意见、询问情况或提出建议,和How about … 意思相近 。about为介词,其后接名词、代词或 v-ing形式。
What about a cup of hot chocolate 喝一杯热巧克力牛奶吗?
明天和我一起出去怎么样?What about going out with me tomorrow
2) aloud 与 loudly
aloud 强调发出的声音能被听见,“大声地、出声地”;
loudly 意为“高声地”,但含有“喧闹”的意味 (放在动词前后均可)
别那么高声说话。Don’t talk so loudly.
她说话的声音很大。She spoke very loudly.
他把信大声念给我们听。 He read the letter aloud to us.
3) pronunciation n. 发音;读音
pronounce v. 发音;读音
你的名字怎么念?How do you pronounce your name
你的发音好极了。Your pronunciation is excellent.
3. Don’t read word by word.不要逐字地读。
word by word 一字一字地,逐字地
Don't read the report word by word now; just skim it.
现在,不要逐字读报告,大致地看一下就可以了。
day by day 逐日;一天天地
year by year 逐年;一年一年地
little by little 逐渐地,渐渐地
one by one 一个接一个地; 依次地
step by step 逐步地, 循序渐进地
side by side 肩并肩地; 一起
4. Well, be patient.好吧,要有耐心。
patient adj. 耐心的
Please be patient.请忍耐些。
I think I am quite a patient person. 我认为我是一个相当有耐心的人。
She was a good teacher. She was very patient with her pupils.她是位好教师,她对学生很有耐心。
patient的常用搭配:
be patient with sb. / sth.对某人/某事有耐心
反义词是 impatient
Don't be impatient with the child. 对这孩子急不得。
名词形式是patience,意思是“耐心; 容忍”
We wouldn’t have the patience to hear such an empty talk. 我们可没耐心去听这种空谈。
patient n. 病人
The patient is too weak to speak. 病人太虚弱了,不能说话。
The doctor has been to see the patient. 医生来[去]看过病人了。
5. The more you read, the faster you’ll be.你读的越多,你会越快。
这是英语中的“the+比较级, the+比较级”结构, 常表示“越……, 就越……”。
The more you practice, the better you can understand. 你练习得越多,理解得就越好。
The more they talked, the more encouraged they felt.他们越说越感觉受到鼓舞。
The harder you study, the better you will be. 你越是努力学习,你就会变得越优秀。
The more you exercise, the stronger you will be. 锻炼得越多,你就越强壮。
6. It’s too hard to understand spoken English.意为“听懂英语口语太难了”。
“too + 形容词/副词 + to + 动词原形”结构,意为“太……而不能……”,该句型用于肯定句,但表示否定的意义。
My son is too young to go to school.我的儿子太小了,不能去上学。
The girl is too short to get the book on the shelf.这个女孩太矮了,够不到书架上的书。
It’s never too old to learn. 活到老,学到老。
7.That doesn’t sound too bad. 那听上去不算太糟糕。
sound用作连系动词,“听起来”,其后常跟形容词。
英语中常用的连系动词:
一是(be),一感(feel),一保持(keep),
……起来:有四个连系动词(sound, look, smell, taste),
好像(seem)
变了:有三个连系动词( get, turn, become)。

When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into your own language. Take the sentence "How do you do " as an example. 1f you looked up each word in the dictionary, once at a time, what is your translation(翻译) It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.
Languages do not just have different sounds. They are different in many ways. It's important to master(掌握)the rules for word order in the study of English, too. If the speaker puts words in a wrong order, the listener can't understand his sentence easily. Sometimes when the order of words in an English sentence is changed, the meaning of the sentence changes. But sometimes the order is changed, the meaning of the sentence doesn't change.
