教学设计
In this period, the students will read a passage about an introduction to Han Gan, a famous artist living in Tan Dynasty. Through reading, the students can know more about the Chinese horse painter’s background knowledge, the feature of art works as well as artistic growth experiences. Reading can contribute to improve their understanding of new concepts and information.
In the part of writing, the students are expected to learn how to write about an artwork with the writing help. A short passage about the painting Sunflowers should include three parts, that is, introduction to the artist and the artwork, main body describing the artwork and conclusion about your own comments.
1. Guide the students to understand the content of the text, including the court painter’s background, the characteristics of his art works and the artistic value.
2. Lead the students to analyze the structure and grasp the theme of the reading material.
3. Guide the students to think about as artists’ growing experiences and treasure their artistic value.
4. Help the students learn how to write about artwork and develop an ability to appreciate art.
1. To develop the students’ reading ability to understand a Chinese historical artist and his artworks.
2. To help the students learn how to appreciate famous art works.
3. To improve the students’ writing ability to compose a short passage about an artwork.
Step 1 Before reading
Activity 1
Think of some adjectives which are used to describe horse and what you know about horses.
Step 2 While reading
Activity 2 Skim the text and complete the following questions quickly.

Step 6 Language appreciation
1. The horses, whether resting or on the move, offered him plenty of inspiration.
[句式分析] whether resting or on the move插入句中充当让步状语,其完成形式为:No matter whether the horses rested or were on the move. 当从句的主语和主句的主语相同时,状语从句通常采用省略其主语,变形其谓语为非谓语形式作状语。本句the horses 与动词rest构成主动语态,故用现在分词resting; were为be动词,通常直接省略掉。

[句式分析] his brush presenting every detail 该结构为“独立主格结构”,本语境中,它相当于并列句“and his brush presented every detail.” 从句法构造看,逻辑主语his brush与句子的主语Han Gan不同,这时采用“一去一留一变形”,即:去连词and, 留his brush, 变谓语presented为现在分词“presenting”(因为his brush 与动词present 构成主动语态)
