Period 1 Starting out and Understanding ideas
教学设计
In the starting-out section of this unit, students will learn about some cities famous for great arts by watching the video, and appreciate various art works shown in four pictures. The purpose of this section is to activate students' existing language and background knowledge so as to prepare for the learning activities of the whole unit.
In the reading part, the students first complete a quiz to learn about the Louvre Museum of France. Then the student will read a passage which presents amazing artworks in the Louvre through live broadcast. Through reading activities, students can better develop their ability to generalize the main idea of the passage and sort out the structure of the article by completing the route of tour. The post-reading activity inspire the students to share personal opinions about artworks.
1. Guide the students to talk about various forms of art works by using newly learned target language.
2. Help the students better understand the content of the passage related to different arts and cultures.
3. Lead the students to appreciate varieties of art works so as to broaden their cross-cultural horizon.
4. Guide the students to compare different artistic and cultural creation and share the experience and feelings of artistic experience.

2. Guide the students to develop the reading ability to generalize the main idea of the passage.
3. Inspire the students to learn about artistic and cultural diversity and share personal opinions about artworks.
Step 1 Starting out
Activity 1 Watch the video and answer the questions.

Activity 2 Look at the pictures and talk about artworks.

The Thinker by Auguste Rodin 奥古斯特·罗丹《思想者》 sculpture
The Peacock by Yang Liping 杨丽萍《孔雀》 dance
The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali 萨尔瓦多·达利《永恒的记忆》 painting

[句式分析] 本句谓语 “do reach”采用了“谓语强调结构”, 此种强调只适用于与含实义动词的谓语, 只采用“do/ does和did + 动词原形 ”。as if引导的状语从句“ time itself were nothing”采用“ ”(语气)——表示与现在实际情况相反,从句的谓语用“一般过去时态”,注意谓语动词be只能用“were”。
