教材中本课主要内容分为两个部分,即阅读和写作。
阅读部分主要是通过另一个角度讲述了自然灾害给人类带来的影响,即“暴风雨后的星空”。本篇文章告诉我们,面对突如其来、始料未及的自然灾害,应该保持乐观的心态和积极的态度。本课标题中的stars一语双关,既有灾难下的无助,又有以积极的心态面对灾难的希望。
在写作部分中,学生将先读到一篇关于自然灾害飓风的安全指导,然后引导学生写一篇关于洪水的安全指导方案。
语言技能目标
学生能够借助关键词,在理解文章大意的基础上,找出段落主题句,完成读前、读后问题;
用所学的词汇和语言的对课文进行复述;
能够读懂细节信息并能理解阅读中生词含义。
语言知识目标
能够正确运用以下单词和短语: billion, lap, nowhere, otherwise, helicopter, mosquito, midnight, the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, the Milky Way, county, have yet to, threat, property, sufficient, shelter等。
能够理解文章中长难句并准确翻译。
文化意识目标
了解关于积极面对自然灾害的意义;
了解人们对发生自然灾害时的心理和态度。
情感态度目标
正确认识如何面对自然灾害,时刻提醒自己保持冷静、乐观的态度,以积极的心态面对突发事件。
理解文章逻辑关系及架构,理解文章写作意图;
引导学生如何对阅读材料进行总结归纳;
引导学生谈论阅读自然灾害故事的收获与感想。

Step-2 Writing Activity-1 Pre-writing Read the hurricane safety guidelines and answer the questions. What is the purpose of safety guidelines What type of language is used in safety guidelines Activity-2 While-writing 1) Make notes for flood safety guidelines based on the hurricane safety guidelines in last activity. Do further research if necessary. Now write flood safety guidelines. Use the expressions in the box to help you. Activity-3 Post-writing Work in pairs. Edit your draft and then share your guidelines with the class. 活动1:帮助学生训练收集、理解阅读材料的能力,为接下来的写作做准备。 活动2:训练学生整理写作大纲,让学生在写作时思路清晰。 活动3:通过本活动,训练学生相互批改、赏析作文,提高学生写作能力以及口语表达能力。 20分钟
Step-3 Language points 1. It was difficult to stay positive, though. [句式分析] 本句需要掌握though作为副词的用法。though可以作连词,也可以作副词。作连词时一般位于句首,引导让步状语从句,译为“虽然”,与although用于基本类似,不能与but连用。作副词时,一般位于句末,且前面有逗号,译为“但是”。 [尝试翻译] 但是,很难保持乐观。 2. I remember us all lying under the midnight sky and looking up at the stars. [句式分析] 本句需要加深remember的用法,两个句型①remember doing sth,表示“记得做过得事”;②remember to do sth,表示“记得要做的事”。 [尝试翻译] 我记得我们都躺在午夜的天空下,仰望星空。 10分钟
Step-4 Homework - Do some research online and find a story about hope in the face of plete the notes with information about your story. - Work in groups. Tell your story to other group members. Use the notes in last activity and the expressions in the box to help you. - Choose one story as your group story and present it to the class.
