Step 1 Grammar item about “Ellipsis”
Activity 1
1. Look at some pairs example sentences and find out some differences between them.
2. learn about what elliptical sentences are and how part of a sentence is left out.

The terrible Wenchuan earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0, hitting the Sichuan Province on May 12,2008, claimed the lives of about 69,200 people, plus over 370,000 injured as well as 17,900 missing. This has also been the most serious earthquake since the Tangshan earthquake happened. In 2009,with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China , May 12 per year is the National Day for disaster prevention and reduction.
