Teaching objectives:
1. Students are going to learn about or go over some useful words and expressions, such as share, be dying to, concept, relevant, adjust, dry out and privilege. (学习或复习部分词汇)
2. Students are going to further develop their reading ability—scanning and summarizing useful information by reading the letter. (训练寻读和概括能力)
3.Students are going to strengthen their awareness of the important role played by volunteers and they can help people in need in their real life. (增强“自愿者服务”重要性的意识, 培养学生在日常生活中帮助他人、扶贫救困的爱心。)

Teaching difficult and important points:
1. How to make students understand the cumstoms and lives in Papua New Guinea.
2. How to help students to scan and summarize the information.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in
1. Show some photos of students’ voluntary work and try to introduce some important words and phrases in this passage.
2. Ask Ss to understand the sign of Chinese Youth Volunteer and understand the meaning of “ volunteer”.
3. Help Ss to know some background information of Papua New Guinea.
Step 2: Reading for structure
Try to divide the passage into several parts by studying the first sentences of each paragraph and analysing their relationtionship.
Step3: Reading for facts
Read Para1-3
1.Ask the students to read para1-3 and find out some information about the school.
2.Ask the students to answer some questions to help them understand the passage better.

Read together with the teacher and find out some key information.
Ask the students to find out what the village be like.
Ask the students to find out some information about the villagers.
Ask the students to find out what village houses be like.
Ask the students to find out cooking methods of the villagers. (find out some Verbs)
Step 4: Discussion
Q1: Regardless of the difficulties, does Jo think the volunteer work is meaningful or meaningless to her? ( Find out the sentences to support your opinions)
