The sun was rising when Daryl’s delivery (递送) truck with goods reached the highway. This was the best time of day to drive, when the roads were wide open and empty. He felt sure he was going to make it to Los Angeles before midnight.

An hour later he arrived at the police station. After explaining what had happened, he prepared to leave, but the policeman said he needed to make a report. Daryl knew it was impossible for him to get to Los Angeles on time now.
Three hours later the report was done and the girl had recovered somewhat. She explained that she had fallen on the highway, weak from hunger. She also thanked Daryl for saving her life. Daryl told her that he had been happy to help, but as he left the police station he knew his boss wouldn’t be happy.
Just as he was about to start the car, his mother called. “Have you seen ” she said, “a bridge collapsed(坍塌) two hours ago, the one that you drive over on the way to Los Angeles.”
Daryl’s blood ran cold. If he had been on time, he would have been on that fallen bridge. Daryl realized how lucky he was.

On a cold winter day, Don took his dogs, Milo and Duke, out for their usual morning walk at Bark Park. But this peaceful walk was interrupted by Mike, an anxious dog owner who was missing his best friend. His small gray dog, Jackson, had gotten lost somewhere in the park- and he'd already been gone for quite some time. Small dogs don't do very well in cold weather. Knowing that there was no time to waste, Don and his own dogs immediately started searching the park. Unfortunately, Jackson was nowhere to be found.
If Don hadn't had his own dogs with him, Jackson might never have been found in time. Don was about to give up on the search and was already heading back to his car. But as Don and his dogs were crossing the bridge, Milo suddenly noticed something in the water. Thinking that his dog had seen a duck or something else, Don tried to pull on the leash, but Milo wouldn't listen. Duke joined in, and the two dogs insisted that something was going on.
Don looked out across the bridge and saw a small, gray shape struggling in the icy river. The reality of the situation clicked(豁然开朗), and Don immediately began running down to the water's edge. Don called 911, but he knew that help wouldn't arrive in time. Without even sparing a thought for(替...着想)himself, the brave man jumped into the water and moved straight towards the terrified dog. Jackson was trapped in ice and barely holding himself above water. Don used his arms to break the ice and quickly pulled the dog into his arms. The two swam out of the water and back onto dry land. Mike was waiting for Jackson and rushed him straight to a nearby vet clinic. It's reported that Jackson didn't suffer any harm from the incident and is as cheerful as ever.
28.What was Don doing when he met Mike
A.Swimming. B.Playing games. C.Taking exercise. D.Walking his dogs.
29.Who first saw the missing dog, Jackson

Proper diet and regular exercise seem to be the only methods for losing weight. However, the importance of water should be added in the process. While medical science has proven the positive effects of water, most people still do not drink enough each day.
The reason why water is so important for weight loss has something to do with metabolism (新陈代谢) of fat. The liver (肝脏) is in charge of this process of turning stored fat into energy. However, the liver is also responsible for helping the kidneys (肾脏) which need enough water in order to function properly. When the kidneys lack water, the liver has to perform all the functions of the kidneys on its own. This means the liver doesn’t have enough energy to metabolize fat. So, drinking water allows the kidneys to focus on their job and the liver to focus on its job.
Also, studies have shown that water can make us feel full when drunk before meals. Without even making an effort, most people who drink a glass of water before a meal will eat 33% less. This is partly because of the fact that they simply get full quicker because the water is taking up space. The other reason is that the food will expand(膨胀)as soon as it enters the water-filled stomach.
Water is important for every aspect of the health of the human body. By drinking more water and improving the health of the body, weight loss goals can be achieved more easily.
Which of the following is not mentioned in the passage as a way to lose weight
A. Regular exercise. B. Drinking water. C. Balanced diet. D. Medical care.
The liver has to take over the job of the kidneys when ________.
A. the kidneys are lacking in water
B. there is something wrong with the kidneys
C. the liver doesn’t provide energy for the kidneys
D. there is no fat for the liver to metabolize
Why can we lose weight by drinking water before meals
A. Because we don’t feel thirsty any longer.
B. Because we eat much less than normal.
C. Because the water takes up too much space.
D. Because the food becomes larger and larger.
Which of the following would be the best title for this passage
A. The Liver Is Important to the Kidneys.
B. The Process of metabolism.
C. Water for a Healthy Life and Losing Weight.
D. Several Tips for Losing Weight.

写作(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右
I wasn’t the most popular kid in my first year of high school, not even close. I was not interested in fashion. I preferred reading to sports, and I had difficulty talking to boys. As a result, the first year of high school had not been kind to me. I had no close friends.
The girl, Ashley, was very different from me. She was fashionable, and she was very artistic(有艺术天赋的), listening to bands I had never heard of. She was quite popular. We were always in the same classes throughout school, but didn’t talk much.
During summer school, the teacher asked us to pair up(结对) on a school project. Ashley didn’t seem to like working with me at first, but she gave in. I guessed it was because none of her “cool” friends were in the class. We met at the library to work on the project. Ashley did most of the talking. We sat by each other the rest of the summer and when classes ended, we continued to hang out(出去玩).
I admired Ashley; she was the kind of person I thought I wanted to be. I began to wear the clothes she wore. I quit reading and started watching the TV programs that Ashley watched. I decided to take an art class though I had really wanted to take the theatre. When we started school again, I met Ashley’s group of friends, the “cool girls”. She was the leader of the group. To fit in with the group, I followed them around, laughing at their jokes and agreeing with their opinions I actually disagreed with. But I didn’t say much.
One day, I went to join the group again. They were chatting without noticing my arrival. One girl said, “Ashley, she just follows you around, trying to be you. She copies you; she doesn’t have her own personality(个性).” Ashley replied, “I wish she could find the group she actually belonged to.” I was shocked and sad. I thought I had fit in with them.

What is it like to travel in space If you have ever watched space movies, you may know something about it. Aurora Station is the world’s first space hotel. US company Orion Span built the hotel. The hotel is around 12 feet wide and 35 feet long. It plans to welcome its first guests in 2022.It will fly 320 kilometers above Earth. It can hold six people at a time. Two of them will be workers. They may be former NASA astronauts. Each trip aboard the station will last for 12 days. Guests there will be able to do many interesting things. For example, they will see around 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours. They can take part in research experiments such as growing food in space. Later, they can bring the food back to earth as a souvenir. These are the same things as astronauts usually do. Guests can also share what they see and hear with others on Earth. They can have a video chat using a high-speed Internet connection. But each guest will have to pay at least $9.5 million. That's really a large amount of money.

1.Paragraph 1:
I ran home and told my mother what had happened. She just hugged me while I cried for hours. I felt lonely and sad. The advice my mother gave was so simple. I had heard it a million times, but this time it was impressive: “Just be yourself and people will like you for who you are.” Hearing that, I stopped crying and decided to find out who I was. That was exactly what I did. I didn’t hang out with Ashley and her group any longer.
Paragraph 2:
Over the next month, I went through a lot of changes. I dropped the art class and joined the theatre. I began making new friends who liked me for who I was. I continued reading, and developed my own opinions. I never again followed the crowd. I built up the courage to participate in each of my school play, and played lead roles. The friends I made in the theatre are still my great friends. When looking back, I think it was the year that I found out the person I was going to be.
