Laureus World Sports Awards is one of the most influential sports awards in the world and the only global sports award ceremony at present. Lawrence means laurel in Latin, which symbolizes victory. The annual Lawrence Award rewards the world's most outstanding male and female athletes. More than 2,000 senior sports journalists from more than 70 countries and regions nominate the athletes with the most outstanding performance in the year, and then 52 members of Lawrence Institute of Physical Education vote for the winners. The Institute of Physical Education is composed of the most outstanding retired athletes in various fields, and each member has brilliant historical achievements.

A sports role model is a sportsperson who inspires other people in a certain way. In this spirit, the Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual ceremony to honour remarkable sportspeople. The first ceremony was held in 2000 in Monacc, where Pelé(贝利) was given the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2003, Yao Mng became the first Chinese sportsperson to win the award, and in Shanghai in 2015 Yao Ming and Li Na both won awards. These sports role models show us what sporting spirit really means - that is, faster, higher and stronger!
Nelson Mandela delivered the famous speech that has become the driving force for the Laureus movement, at the first ever Laureus World Sports Awards.

Every single member of the team gave their all to the fight, includng Hui Ruoqi who had had heart surgery less than five months previously.

If each individual does her job and works well with others, then the end goal can be achieved. In fact, strong team spirit is more imporant than the skills of individual players. Zhu Ting, named Most Valuable Player at the Rio Olympics, also idenified this as the special ingredient in the team's success: "Teamwork is the key to China's victory. Thanks to my teammates' hard efforts, I had the opportunity to show my spiking skills"

While we are competing in sports, winning is very important, and actually winning really is everything.
First of all, all the mental and physical preparation is aimed at achieving one simple objective: beating your opponent by scoring more points. We often train for sports by having this goal in mind and to be very frank, nobody has an aim to lose. In fact, other than winning being an achievement to the whole team, it is a goal that boost our metal and physical strength.
In addition, winning is encouragement, with which we will play harder and try to be the best we can be. To leave the field with no regrets is important and sportsmanship is about doing our best in the game.We definitely do not want to say, “We should have tried harder" after losing our games.
Hence, I feel that winning is everything in terms of improving ourselves.
