Unit 6 Detectives
Period 1
Teaching objectives
To teach students the usage of infinitives.
Teaching important and difficult point
To help students find some rules of English languages.
Teaching procedures
Step 1: Introduce what the infinitives is.
Infinitives: to do (否定形式：not to do)
Step 2: Teach the structure of the sentences
句子成分：主语，谓语，宾语，表语，定语，状语，补语
Tell students that 动词不定式能作除谓语以外的任何成分。
Step 3: Teach the usage of infinitives
Infinitives after verbs or verbs + objects
举例说明：
a) Pansy wanted to get information for her article.
b) Mr Jones expected the insurance company to pay him 300,000 dollars for the vase.
Do some exercise.
Infinitives after wh- words
举例说明：
a) I decided what to do next.
b) I decided how to do it next. (提示学生注意这两个短语)
Do some exercise.
Infinitives after certain nouns.
Do some exercise.
Step 4: Show the students that infinitives used as different elements in the sentence.
My ambition is to become a teacher. 表语
To become a teacher is my ambition. 主语
It is my ambition to become a teacher. 形式主语
We began to learn Japanese last term. 宾语
I told him to give the seat to the old man. 宾补
Do you have anything to say at the meeting 定语
He went to visit his cousin. 状语
Step 5: Assignment:
1．Finish the exercises on workbooks.
2．Memorize the notes.

Teaching Objectives
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to
learn some new words and phrases
gain the general idea of the case by using some reading skills(predicting，inferring and summarizing)
learn to be honest

Pre-reading Watch a video and get some information about detectives To arouse students’ interest and elicit the topic
While-reading Read the title, the introduction and the picture and try to answer some questions To develop the students’ ability of predicting
Read through the dialogue and divide the dialogue into three parts then give the reasons To get students involved in the article and get a general idea
Read through lines 1 to 9 and find the answers to the questions To help the students get some specific information
Retell lines 1 to 9 with the help of some key words To help the students have a better understanding of the background
Read through lines 10 to 19 , complete the tables and match the clues with the conclusions To help the students get some specific clues and infer the possible conclusions
Scan lines 20 to 25 , infer possible conclusions and fill in the chart To develop the students’ ability of reasoning and inferring
Read through lines 27 to 37 and find the answers to the questions To help the students get some specific ideas by scanning
Review the questions at the beginning and check the answers To help the students check the guess at the beginning and have a revision of the whole case
Post-reading Think and complete the summary individually To consolidate the key information and summarize the whole case
Think and discuss the questions and present ideas on the screen To check what the students have learnt and arouse the students’ sense of being honest
