A COMPUTER guy was found “dead” in the computer lab at Freedom Area Middle School in Pennsylvania, US. Was he murdered Who was the murderer
Soon several teams of “detectives” arrived at the scene. They carefully collected fingerprints, examined footprints and looked at hair samples (样本).
You might be surprised to know that these “detectives” were actually 12- and 13-year-old students! And the “dead” guy was also played by a student.
On June 2, the school held a CSI (Crime Scene Investigation,犯罪现场调查) day. The science teacher Lisa Moore set up a mock(模仿) murder in the lab. Students needed to use scientific ways to find out who the murderer was.
“We want to offer students a chance to see how science is used in everyday crime investigation and the reasoning (推理) behind it,” Moore told Beaver County Times.
The students arrived at the scene with prior(先前的) knowledge about police work. They’ve learned how to protect the scene and question suspects in class. During the week before CSI day, they met with several police officers and lawyers to learn about the investigation process better.
After investigating and interviewing suspects, each team examined what they found at the scene and decided who the murderer was. Teachers told them the right answer in the end.
Students were excited about being detectives. “The exciting part was going into the crime scene and the most exciting part was trying to work together with all of our friends to try to find out who did it,” said 12-year-old Ashley Rose, “team work made us smarter.”
