Kindness
Good friends are not just kind to you; they are kind to others as well. People like being around them because they are positive people. The kindness they spread comes from inner feelings of happiness and self-confidence. In contrast, social aggression, such as meanness, is a quality that shows lack of respect for others and discontent with oneself. These feelings outwardly show and eventually prevent communications and genuine friendships from forming.
Accepting
Good friends are easy to talk to because they accept what you are. They understand the things that are important to you and the values that you hold. Although they may not necessarily agree with all of your beliefs and actions, they will never judge you. People who can accept you also are better able to accept themselves. High self-esteem and self-acceptance are intertwined.
Interest
According to American writer and lecturer, Dale Carnegie, showing genuine interest in others is one way to promote feelings of goodwill. People are more likely to remember how you make them feel. This goes beyond good listening skills. Good friends ask questions about things that matter to you. To do this, they must put aside their own needs and focus on helping others feel important. If you make them feel inferior, they will not enjoy the time you spend together.
Honesty
Although honesty is important to friendships, it may be one of the most difficult qualities to maintain. When you ask a friend for honesty, she may prefer preserving the peace over telling you what she really thinks. But honesty promotes trust. A good friend cares enough to tell you the truth and has sufficient confidence in the relationship to be assured of a positive outcome.
What does the kindness of a friend come from according to the passage
A. Respect. B. Excitement. C. Happiness. D. Belief.
What good friends will do if you make them feel less important according to the passage
A. They will begin to care about their own needs.
B. They will take no interest in you.
C. They will feel uncomfortable to stay with you.
D. They are more likely to question about themselves.
The underlined word "intertwined" in the second paragraph probably means "______".
A. connected B. complicated C. obvious D. common
What is the passage mainly about
A. Being kind to friends.
B. Why we need friends.
C. How to make friends.
D. Qualities of a good friendship.

Imagine looking at a view of mountaintops and wondering about the name of each peak. Suddenly, above each mountaintop, a name appears on the sky. The words are not written in smoke by skywriting planes. The words are actually not in the sky at all. They come from tiny computers in contact lenses(隐形眼镜).
Computers have become smaller and smaller over the decades. The first computers filled houses. Transistors(晶体管) and then chips allowed computers to become small enough to fit on a desktop, then a laptop, and finally a phone. When experimenting with further contraction in size, developers often have to deal with the limits of human eyesight, which control how small the computers can be and still present visible information.
One new solution employs microprojectors(微型投影机) to create a readable display(显示) for tiny computers. These machines project computer information onto any surface. Though an impressive breakthrough, there are potential problems. Such public displays can lead to privacy concerns; most people do not want their information displayed on a wall for everyone to see. Besides, these projectors are extremely expensive, and their screens give users headaches.
Babak Parviz, a researcher at the University of Washington, created another solution: inventing a screen visible only to a person wearing a contact lens. Parviz created a computer in a contact lens that uses the wearer's field of vision as the display. To create the display, Parviz took ordinary soft contact lenses with a wirelessly controlled system. At some point, Parviz says, it will be possible to connect the lens to a remote personal computer device such as a cellphone or a laptop. By looking in a certain direction, the wearer sends the computer visual information about what he or she sees. The device then uses this information to point out the names of peaks.
These contact lenses are inserted and removed in much the same way as ordinary contact lenses. In addition, the computers in the lenses won't block the wearer's sight at all. Although now the computers are not on lenses treating eyesight problems, Parviz hopes that someday the technology will progress to that level.
The contact lenses in the text can ______.
A. treat eyesight problems
B. offer beautiful views of nature
C. project information on wall surface
D. show information about what wearers see
The underlined word "contraction" in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by ______.
A. expansion B. spread C. reduction D. revolution
According to Paragraph 3, the microprojectors ______.
A. put people's privacy at risk B. save computer information
C. cause serious illnesses D. support users' needs
According to the passage, these contact lenses contribute to ______.
A. saving users' expenses B. reducing computers' size
C. limiting the field of vision D. guarding remote computers
D
Social media is one of the fastest-growing industries in today's world. A study conducted by the US think tank (智囊团) Pew Research Center showed that 92 percent of teenagers go online daily.
The wide spread of social media has changed nearly all parts of teenagers' lives.
Changing relationships
High school student Elly Cooper from Illinois said social media often reduces face-to-face communication.
"It makes in-person relationships harder because people give attention to their phones instead of their boyfriends or girlfriends," Cooper said.
There's also a greater possibility of things getting lost in translation over social media.
"If half of your relationship is over social media, you don't really know how the other person is reacting," Sienna Schulte, a junior student from Illinois, said.
Yet, some people believe social media has made it easier to start relationships with anyone from anywhere. Beth Kaplan from Illinois met her long-distance friend through social media. He currently lives in Scotland, but they're still able to frequently communicate with one another.
"I can feel close to someone that I'm talking to via (通过) FaceTime," Kaplan said.
Wanting to be "liked"
The rise of social media has changed the way teenagers see themselves.
The 19-year-old Essena O'Neill announced on the social networking service Instagram that she was quitting social media because it made her obsessed (痴迷) with appearing perfect online.
Negative comments also can do great damage to a teenager's self-esteem (自尊).
In particular, anonymous (匿名的) social media apps such as Yik Yak may provide opportunities for cyber bullying (网络欺凌).
The app allows users within 5 miles (8km) to create and add comments to everything. Teenagers who get negative comments on these sites can't help but feel hurt.
Opening new doors
However, Armin Korsos, a student from Illinois, takes advantage of the comments he receives over social media to improve his videos on the social networking site Youtube.
"Social media can help people show themselves and their talents to the world in a way that was never possible before," Korsos said.
But Korsos recognizes that social media has become a distraction (让人分心的事). "Social media, though it helps people connect with their friends and stay updated, is not all necessary."
What is the article mainly about
A. The major problems with social media.
B. The effect of social media on teenagers.
C. How teenagers benefit from social media.
D. Why social media appeals so much to teenagers.
How does social media change relationships, according to the article
A. It pushes people to meet their friends more often offline.
B. It encourages people to pay more attention to those around them.
C. It enables users to understand accurately what others are talking about online.
D. It allows people to keep in touch with their friends who live far away more easily.
Essena O'Neill decided to disconnect herself from social media because ______.
A. she couldn't tolerate cyber bullying on social media
B. she wanted to spend more time with her friends in reality
C. she was troubled by her desire to look perfect on social media
D. she always felt hurt by the negative information online
Which statement about the use of social media would Armin Korsos probably agree with
A. The use of social media taught him to turn negative comments into motivations.
B. Social media can easily become an addiction (着迷), despite its benefits.
C. Social media is mostly a distraction to teenagers, so it is unnecessary for it to exist.
D. If used well, social media can create opportunities for teenagers to develop themselves.

参考范文
Dear Tony,
I'm very sorry to hear that you're feeling kind of blue these days. ①It's a pity that your best friend Jim is not so close to you any more just because he has made some new friends, who have some bad behaviors.
You know what ②Actually, what you're experiencing is quite natural and common among teenagers. We sometimes will meet with some kids who act with bad manners. Cool as they may seem, they will face unpleasant results over time. As is known, true friendship is developed not by being unkind but by sharing kindness. Try to talk to Jim and see if he would follow your advice. If he continues not to understand, it may be better to seek another best friend.
Best wishes. I'm looking forward to receiving your next email.
Yours,
Li Hua
