Yesterday afternoon I was in my studio working. I was chatting on the phone when something made me look up. Out of the window, on the other side of the street, I saw my very elderly neighbor kneeling (跪着) in the grass, his caregiver beside him. "I've got to go," I said to my friend. "I think something is wrong." So I ran downstairs, out my front door and across the street.
"He was taking a walk, and he tripped (绊倒) on the pavement," the caregiver said. "I can't lift him on my own." My neighbor is a large man, so I ran back across the street and got my husband! Together we were able to get him standing, but he couldn't walk. Luckily, a woman bicycled by and asked if we needed help! She got a lawn chair from my front porch and we got my neighbor seated. After a few minutes of rest, we were able to help him get into the house. "I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't rushed over to help. I was all alone," his caregiver said.
So here's what I've been thinking about since: help your neighbor. Look up from what you are doing, and look around for who you can help. It may not be as clear as it was in this case, but there's always help you can give—to your neighbor across the street, or the person standing beside you. They are all your neighbors.

C. To work with others to do good things.
D. To share one of her unforgettable experiences.

Adolescence is a time of growth for children, for both physical and mental development. A healthy diet is essential for teenagers not only because of their nutritional needs, but also because the foods they eat as teenagers can affect their health when they reach adulthood. Healthy eating also promotes good food habits to last a lifetime.
Teenagers need to burn more calories because their bodies are growing rapidly. According to HealthyChildren.org, adolescents need more calories each day than at any other point in their lives. In general, teenage boys need to burn 2,800 calories each day and teenage girls need to burn 2,200 (calories per day). These calorific needs are even higher for teens who play sports or are otherwise very physically active.
In addition, teenagers should eat foods in the right proportions. Approximately 50 to 60 percent of the calories should come from carbohydrates (碳水化合物), HealthyChildren.org notes. Fat should make up less than 30 percent of a teenager's calories. These guidelines will also ensure that teenagers get enough protein, which is important because teenagers consume, on average, twice as much protein as they need, HealthyChildren.org reports.
Vitamins and minerals are also critical for teenagers. Teenagers should eat a variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables, to make sure that they get all of the vitamins they need. Milk is a healthier choice than sodas for most teenagers because it provides calcium and vitamins A and D and helps with making new bones during growth spurts (快速生长期).
As teenagers mature into adulthood, they may continue some of the eating habits they developed earlier in life. A diet high in sugar and fat can promote weight gain and poor health later in life, particularly once the teenager's metabolism (新陈代谢) slows down. A diet high in sugar can also increase a teenager's risk of developing heart disease later in life, the American Heart Association explains.
What benefits can teenagers get from a healthy diet
A. They can escape from mental suffering.
B. They can grow up quickly.
C. They can keep a good figure.
D. They can form good eating habits.
Who needs the highest amount of calories each day according to the passage
A. A teenage girl who studies hard.
B. A teenage boy who grows fast.
C. A teenage boy who likes playing football.
D. A teenage girl who likes playing table tennis.
What should a person eat if he wants to promote bone growth
A. Fat and eggs. B. Fruits and vegetables.
C. Milk. D. Sugary drinks.
What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A. Good eating habits help teenagers avoid the risk of health problems.
B. Many teenagers suffer from poor health as they age.
C. Being overweight is one of the main health problems among teenagers.
D. Teenagers might get ill even if they have developed good habits.
D
Many of us seem to have lives that follow a certain way. From kindergarten all the way to getting married, every stage of our lives seems to be preset (预置). And although this works well for a lot of people, according to British scholar Jay Shetty, there is no "right" schedule to live our lives by.
A few months ago, a video of Shetty's speech "Before You Feel Pressure" became popular on the Internet across the world. In the video, he sends an important message that we should think "outside of the way" and have the courage to follow our hearts. As Shetty says in the video, we don't have to get stressed and put ourselves in the race with our peers (同龄人) or judge our lives based on others'. "Everything in life happens according to our time, our clocks," he says.
In his inspiring speech, Shetty points out that UK author J. K. Rowing got her famous "Harry Potter" series published at age 32, after being turned down by 12 publishers. Shetty also mentions that Chinese businessman Jack Ma didn't even start the Alibaba Group until he was 35 years old. So we shouldn't let anyone rush us.
As physicist Albert Einstein once said, "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that is counted truly counts. The key to staying on our own tracks is to be patient and keep our own interest." In Australian nurse Bronnie Ware's best-selling book "The Top Five Regrets of the Dying", she recorded the dying regrets of her patients, and the top one on the list was: "I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the one others expected of me."
Indeed, we are all unique in our personalities and gifts, and there is no perfect fit for all. We should listen to our inner voices and ignore what the world has taught us, and what we have picked up from people around us. "It is important to allow people to go back to being self-aware of their own interests, needs and concerns", Shetty told the magazine. "It's disconnecting from what makes sense to what actually moves you and what makes sense internally (内在的)."
What does Jay Shetty agree to
A. All people live their lives according to schedules.
B. The stages of our lives should be preset.
C. Few people have lives that follow a certain way.
D. We can live our lives not according to the given way.
According to Jay Shetty, people should ______.
A. put more pressure on themselves
B. change their lives based on others'
C. decide their lives in terms of actual cases
D. always compete with those who are better than themselves
For what purpose does Shetty list three famous people
A. To show everyone can be a winner.
B. To show great new life can begin anytime.
C. To show hard work is the key to success.
D. To show success does not happen in one's youth.
What can we learn from Albert Einstein or Bronnie Ware
A. The top dying regret was not living the life people wanted.
B. We should count and analyze everything in life.
C. One should live a life as expected by others.
D. Everything that is counted truly counts.
