Teaching aims:
By the end of the class, students will be able to:
1. To remember the important words and some sentence patterns: front, building, ground, bright, modern, hall, show sb around, in front of, ground floor, have meetings, in a white shirt, look young..
2. To get some information and talk about the facilities of Millie’s school.
3.To learn to show others around our school
4. To cultivate the students’ emotion of loving our school.
Important and difficult points:
1. To learn some important new words and sentence patterns, and use them in daily life.
2. To say something about their school to their family and friends.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Warming up 入境——启动情智
Brainstorming: talk about what do we have in our school
T: Now, let’s have a brainstorming.
Can you tell me what do we have in our school
S: We have trees, flowers, lessons and so on.
T: Great! Our school has so many things.
Step 2: Presentation 感悟——生成情智
1. Show students around our school and teach new words and phrases
T: Let me show you around our school.
What’s the name of our school in English
S: Changzhou No.24 Middle School
T: Where is it
S: It’s the school gate.
T: What can you see in the picture
S: A classroom building, and some trees and bushes in front of the classroom building.
T: How many floors are there in our classroom building
S: Four.
T: In the UK, we call it the ground floor. And where is our classroom
S: On the first floor, and in the middle.
T: This is our classroom. We study in it every day.
What do you think of our classroom. Is it clean and bright
What subjects do we have in our classroom
S: Clean and bright. Yes.
T: Where do we study computers
Where do we study music
S: On the second floor.
T: In the future, we will learn art in an art room. It’s on the second floor.
Where can we read books
S: In the library.
T: What do you think of our library
S: It’s big and modern.
T: Where do we have meetings or competitions
S: In the school hall.
T: Where do we play sports
S: On the playground.
T: There are three floors. We can call it 3D-playground.
2. Practice new words
T: Please open your books and turn to page33. Finish part B1
Students read the words after the teacher.
3. Listening
T: I have shown you around our school. Let’s visit Millie’s school.
What’s the name of Millie’s school
Let’s listen to their conversation and answer me three questions:
(1) What does Millie’s mother do with Millie on the Open Day
(2) What is Millie’s school like
(3) How does Mr. Wu look
Students listen and answer.
4. Reading
(1) Read and circle.
T: Millie’s mother walks around many places. What are they
Read the dialogue and circle out all the places
For example, the first is the playground.
They are all the places Millie and Mum talk about.
Check the answers together.
(2) Practising
T: Now please read the dialogue again and tick the information of the places on page 33 part B2.
If you have finished, please sit still and look at me.
Students write and raise hands.
T: Good, most of you have finished.
Please give me the answer and tell me where do you find it. Read the sentence.
Check the answers.
(3) About Mr Wu
T: Do they only talk about the places in Sunshine Middle School
S: No.
T: What else do they talk about
S: the Teacher/Mr Wu.
T: Which one is Mr Wu What does he wear?How do you know?
S: The man in a white shirt is Mr. Wu. Mr Wu is Millie’s English teacher. He looks young.
Step 3: Discussion 交流——展现情智
1. Pair work: role-play
T: Now, it’s our role-play time. Please work in pairs and one is Millie and another is Mum.
Students work in pairs and practice and present the conversation.
2. Practicing and read together.
Millie wants to write about her plete her diary entry with the information on Page 32.
Students check the answers by reading.
3. Work in groups: speaking
T: Let’s try to introduce Millie’s school.
Students introduce by themselves. And two students present to the whole class.
Step 4: Consolidation and further thinking 表达——发展情智
1. Pair work: show others around the school
T: This is Millie’s school. What about our school
Look at the map. Try to introduce our school to your friend.
Students work in pairs and make a conversation like Millie and Mum.
T: Now, if your friends come to our school can you introduce our school them
Students work in pairs and one introduces to the other.
2. Further thinking
T: What makes a good school
S: Good teachers, hardworking students, modern school facilities, colorful subjects and activities.
