W:They are cheering so the singer will come out and give one last performance.Keep clapping!
(Text 3)

(Text 6)
M:You know what I like about you We can just sit here, and enjoy each other’s company. We don’t need to fill every moment talking.Right
W:Well,I usually don’t talk much when I’m studying.

(Text 10)
Thank you for attending this public hearing on our new Severe Weather Warning System.I’m Helen Dunley.First,I’d like to remind everyone that the main purpose of a weather warning system is to tell people outdoors to move inside. Now,it’s important to remember that we will test the system every Saturday at noon,so don’t worry about the noise at that time. It’s a good idea to go outside and listen when we test the system and make sure you can hear them in your neighbourhood.Remember that the loud noise is only one part of the warning system. The loud noise is activated by city officials after we receive warnings from the national weather service. In other words, you might hear a warning on the national news before you hear a warning here.If you do hear one, what should you do First, take cover. Our city doesn’t have public shelters,so go to the inside of any building, away from windows.Second, wait for reports on local media. Finally, stay indoors until you hear the all-clear signal.

By the end of the century,if not sooner, the world’s oceans will be bluer and greener thanks to a warming climate, according to a new study.
At the heart of the phenomenon lie tiny marine microorganisms(海洋微生物)called phytoplankton.Because of the way light reflects off the organisms, these phytoplankton create colourful patterns at the ocean surface.Ocean colour varies from green to blue, depending on the type and concentration of phytoplankton.Climate change will fuel the growth of phytoplankton in some areas, while reducing it in other spots, leading to changes in the ocean’s appearance.
Phytoplankton live at the ocean surface, where they pull carbon dioxide into the ocean while giving off oxygen. When these organisms die, they bury carbon in the deep ocean,an important process that helps to regulate the global climate. But phytoplankton are vulnerable to the ocean’s warming trend.Warming changes key characteristics of the ocean and can affect phytoplankton growth, since they need not only sunlight and carbon dioxide to grow, but also nutrients.
Stephanie Dutkiewicz,a scientist in MIT’s Center for Global Change Science, built a climate model that projects changes to the oceans throughout the century. In a world that warms up by 3℃,it found that multiple changes to the colour of the oceans would occur. The model projects that currently blue areas with little phytoplankton could become even bluer. But in some waters, such as those of the Arctic, warming will make conditions riper for phytoplankton, and these areas will turn greener.“Not only are the quantities of phytoplankton in the ocean changing,” she said,“but the type of phytoplankton is changing.”
8.What are the first two paragraphs mainly about
A.The various patterns at the ocean surface.
B.The cause of the changes in ocean colour.
C.The way light reflects off marine organisms.
D.The efforts to fuel the growth of phytoplankton.
9.What does the underlined word “vulnerable” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Sensitive. B.Beneficial.
C.Significant. D.Unnoticeable.
10.What can we learn from the passage
A.Phytoplankton play a declining role in the marine ecosystem.
B.Dutkiewicz’s model aims to project phytoplankton changes.
C.Phytoplankton have been used to control global climate.
D.Oceans with more phytoplankton may appear greener.
11.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To assess the consequences of ocean colour changes.
B.To analyse the composition of the ocean food chain.
C.To explain the effects of climate change on oceans.
D.To introduce a new method to study phytoplankton.

The Suez Canal(苏伊士运河),which connects the Mediterranean Sea(地中海) and the Red Sea,opened in 1869.It helps speed world trade between the East and the West. But the man-made waterway has also helped speed the rise of other things, such as non-native species, which have damaged the Mediterranean’s environment and caused native species to disappear.
The number of non-native species has risen since the Suez Canal was widened in 2015.The “New Suez Canal” has raised concerns in many Mediterranean countries.
Bella Galil is an Israeli biologist who has studied the Mediterranean for over 30 years. She noted that the widening and deepening of the Suez Canal had created a “moving aquarium” of species. These species could make coastal waters almost unusable for human beings.Galil believes the number of invasive species has reached 400,which is twice the number from 30 years ago.
Scientists in Mediterranean countries from Turkey,Tunisia to Lebanon share the same concern. But some Egyptians don’t consider the environmental concerns as serious. They said only 5% of the invaders are a problem and that invasive species can be helpful by “replacing species that are overfished”.They don’t think that the widening of the canal is responsible for the increase in invasive species;they say the increase was caused by rising water temperatures and wastewater from ships.
The Suez Canal Authority runs the canal.Canal officials say they are closely watching the movements of sea species. They say they are requiring ships to take action to avoid carrying species from one side of the canal to the other. And they are trying to keep salt levels high in the Bitter Lakes to block invasive species out.Galil, however, questions whether these will be enough to protect the native species.“One day we will wake up to a complete and irreversible(不可逆的)change and know that there was something we could have done about it,if only it had been done on time,” she said.
12.What does the first paragraph show
A.Seeing is believing.
B.Man will conquer nature.
C.Let nature take its course.
D.Every coin has two sides.
13.What does Galil say about the “New Suez Canal”
A.Its environment is worsening.
B.It connects Mediterranean countries.
C.It is widened to include more species.
D.It is to protect endangered native species.
14.What do some Egyptians disagree on
A.The results of overfishing.
B.The decrease of native species.
C.The cause of the increase in invasive species.
D.The meaning of the widening of the Suez Canal.
15.What is Galil’s attitude to the Suez Canal Authority’s action
A.Uninterested. B.Doubtful.
C.Supporting. D.Understanding.

High on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau lies China’s “Water tower” Sanjiangyuan. 16 The three rivers:the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Lancang River, provide water for about half the population of China. However, human activities such as overgrazing(过度放牧)are putting this ecosystem at risk.
17 In 2016,the Chinese government established Sanjiangyuan National Park, which was a pilot(试 行)program for China’s national park system. 18 Due to the progress made in the region,Qinghai held the first National Park Forum on Aug.19.
Sanjiangyuan National Park is a model of eco-protection. 19 For example,Herdsmen have given their grasslands to nature and resettled in urban areas. As for wildlife, they are monitored by field conservation stations to keep the environment in good condition.
The idea of a national park system is still new in China, but it must be realized. As President Xi wrote in the congratulatory letter to the forum,“Building an ecological civilization bears great significance in the development and progress of human civilization.”With great efforts, people may one day be able to enjoy themselves in the vast lands of Sanjiangyuan and run freely across the plains alongside nature’s animals. 20
A.Hopefully,though,we have realized the damage.
B.It’s home to the headwater of China’s three big rivers.
C.Unfortunately, the situation has got worse and worse.
D.It attracts visitors with its fantastic nature beauty and various wildlife.
E.The park has increased the area’s green coverage and attracted more wildlife.
F.Hopefully, the success of Sanjiangyuan will mark the start of a greener future.
G.The local government has different ways of slowing environmental degradation.

What makes the sea turn red and causes thousands of fish to die As far back as anyone could remember, the blame was placed on the “red tides”.In 1947,scientists finally connected the red tides with a microscopic sea organism 36. (call)the dinoflagellate(腰鞭毛虫).
The dinoflagellate is so tiny 37. 6,000 of these organisms may be contained in 38.single drop of water. It stands on the borderline between plants and animals in its classification. It produces its own food,as plants do.But it moves 39. (free) and eats other organisms,as animals do.
Dinoflagellates are normally only one of the many kinds of organisms found in plankton.Plankton is the name given to all very small 40.(form) of sea life. However, when the air and water 41.(be) calm and warm, dinoflagellates multiply with an 42. (amaze)speed. The surface of the water appears 43.(cover) with a red carpet.
The dinoflagellates give off a poison. Many fish die.Their bodies are washed up on the beach.Beaches are not fit 44. any use.Fish that are not killed may become 45. (poison) to animals or people who eat mercial fishing comes to a stop.
As dinoflagellates consume all the food and oxygen in an area, they die. After a time, the sea returns to normal. But when conditions are right, the red tide comes again.

One morning,my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast—until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door,we saw a puppy. We looked around to see if we saw its owner, but there was no one.We took it inside and fed it.
Regardless of how badly I wanted to keep the puppy,we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day,but we failed. We talked about whether we should keep looking or if we should look the next day.We all agreed to look for its owner the next day.
So,the next day my family and I looked for the dog’s owner. It was so hard looking for its owner. We were looking for flyers(传单)that involved the puppy, but no luck.We wouldn’t have quit because it’s a puppy.
“We won’t stop looking,” my mom and dad said.We were going to take care of the puppy until we found its owner.
When we woke up in the morning,we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy the dog food that we had just bought. After we fed the puppy,we gave it a nice bath.It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky, but after we gave it a bath,it turned white. And I noticed there was a collar on him, which said “Coby”.After we gave him a bath,we went to look for the puppy’s owner, but my mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.
We continued looking more and more until we found flyers. We looked at it.
It said,“Lost Dog:Please Help if Found.” Then we looked at the picture;it looked exactly like Coby.We were all happy we found a flyer that was for Cody.
There was a phone number on the flyer.
We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door.

根据Who Is Jimmy Carter 介绍中的“Everyone was rather surprised when small-town farmer Jimmy Carter first announced that he’d be running for the President in 1976.When Jimmy told his mother, she replied,‘President of what ’”可知,听到Jimmy Carter要竞选美国总统后,包括他母亲在内的所有人都很惊讶,故选D项。
根据第一段中“As it was getting late,we started looking for a motel, only to find that all were booked.”
根据第二段中“When he was unsuccessful, the woman,Linda, said she and her family lived nearby and would be happy if we spent the night at her home.”
根据倒数第二段中“We woke up to a table set for breakfast,They’d made a mountain of pancakes and bacon.
故选A项。
根据画线词后的“Warming changes key characteristics of the ocean and can affect phytoplankton growth, since they need not only sunlight and carbon dioxide to grow, but also nutrients.”
根据最后一段中的“The model projects that currently blue...and these areas will turn greener.”
再结合第三段中的“But phytoplankton are vulnerable to the ocean’s warming trend.Warming changes key characteristics of the ocean and can affect phytoplankton growth...”
根据最后一段的“Galil,however,questions whether...if only it had been done on time”可以推知,Galil对于Suez Canal Authority采取的措施表示怀疑。
16.B 此句为承上启下句,上承China’s “Water tower”,下启The three rivers。B项中It指代上句中的Sanjiangyuan;three big rivers与下句中 的The three rivers 相呼应。
19.G 根据后文“For example...”

30.B 由下文“This gave me an idea how to achieve a goal”可知,他的话在作者脑子里生了根,所以决定去实现曾认为不可能达到的目标。
故选A项。
由下文“but on the average I made progress”可知,make progress与fail相对应。故选A项。

43.to be covered appear to do意为“似乎做……,好像做……”。the surface of the water和cover之间是被动关系,故填to be covered。
44.for be fit for是固定搭配,意为“适合……;胜任……”。
Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m writing to express my opinion on how to protect the animals on the island I visited last weekend. The animals there are lovely, but it’s said that the number of them is decreasing year by year.If measures aren’t taken, they will be in danger of extinction.
As far as I’m concerned, laws concerning animal protection should be made to punish those illegal hunters.Besides,it is necessary to set up natural reserves. There is no doubt that animals living in safe environments are more likely to survive. What’s more, something should be done to raise people’s awareness of protecting animals.
To sum up,protecting animals is of great urgency and it is vital for us to take steps to protect them.
Please help the poor animals.I am sure that they will survive with your help.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered;it was a lady.My dad asked whether she was the one who posted the flyers. She said “Yes!” with excitement and told us Coby, who was very dear to her,had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and we would take him to her.She told us her address at once;then we went to it.
We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door.A lady opened the door, and when she saw the puppy, she screamed with joy.We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for taking care of her puppy for her,but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help.So we went home tired but content, telling my mom the whole thing. My family became friends with the lady, and we were all happy.
