Teaching Content The teaching content of this class comes from the latest edition of Yilin 2020 textbook. This is a reading class. The theme of this reading class is “Friendship on the rocks: please advise!”. Friendship is a very important part of their age. I hope that through this class, they can understand what real friendship is and what qualities real friendship needs to contain. At the same time, they can know how to deal with the interpersonal relationships.
AnalysisOntheTeaching Content This is the second lesson of this unit. Before this class, the teacher has taught the students vocabulary in Warm-up and Lesson 1. This article is written by three high school students. One post is Amy's confusion about her friendship, and the other two posts are Cindy and David's replies to Amy. They try to give advice to Amy. This is an article closely related to them, which can greatly arouse their interest in learning this lesson. The text covers 3 sections. Each section includes students' current ideas and confusion. For example, the first section mainly talks about some contradictions between Amy and her best friends. In her post, We can feel her irritability and sadness. These situations are the most common situations for teenagers. Students will have a deep understanding after reading the article.
AnalysisonLearners The cognitive development of high school students is very fast, so they are eager to learn new knowledge which is not limited from the textbooks. They have their own opinions and attitudes. According to their current cognitive capability and age, I must firmly grasp their needs of knowledge. I must try my best to help them keep up their passion, develop the feeling of success and build up good values. According to the actual situation of my students. I should prepare some easy and interesting content for them. Because their English foundation is very ordinary and their attention is easy to be distracted.
Teaching Aims Knowledge(1) The Ss can understand these posts and talk Amy`s problems.(2) The Ss can get different advice from their classmates and know how to deal with their friendship problems.
Abilities (1) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing (2) To improve Ss' reading abilities, especially their skimming and scanning abilities.(3) To train the Ss’ abilities of studying by themselves and through cooperating.
Emotion They can adopt a positive attitude about their friendship.They can have a positive and correct understanding of friendship .
Important Points (1) To understand Amy’s problems in making friends and clarify the suggestions given by Cindy and David;(2) To express problems in making friends and discuss the solutions;

Step 1 Lead in (3 min) Greeting.Talk about qualities of a good friend. (Brain storming) Suggested answers:(2) What problems may cause The boat of friendship to sink Arouse students' interest and lead in the topic of this lesson.
Step 2. Pre-reading(8 min) Students think about these questions and T will show them suggested answers:What is the structure of this passage (2) Do you think there are “friends for life” (3) Do you have someone who once was your friend but never talks to you any more now If so, would you mind sharing your experiences 1. Get Ss to know the structure of the passage. 2. Serve as a warm-up for the following tasks.
Step 3While-reading(18 min) Part 1. Friendship on the rocks (14 min)1. What happened between Amy and Jenny 2. How has Amy's feelings changed 3. Why does Amy have all these feelings Amy values her friendship with Jenny, but she thinks her best friend has lied to her and betrayed(背叛)her trust.Part 2. Please advise! ( 4 min)1. What are the pieces of advice from Cindy and David 2. Why do they think so Cindy David (These two questions are very easy, so they can get the answers easily) 1. Enable students to understand the passage better by using different reading skills. 2. Proper competition can arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning. 3. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss’ ability of reading and co-operation.
Step 4Post-reading(7 min) Task1. Deep thinking (group work, 4 min)They should work in groups of four to discuss the problem. After their discussion, the teacher will invite the students to express their views.If you were Amy, whose advice would you take, Cindy's or David's Why Task2. Personal show (individual work, 3 min)At the end of the class, the teacher will ask the students to convey their opinions.What helpful advice can you offer Amy (suggested answers)(1) Figure out what really upsets you and tell your friend frankly.(2) Tell you friend how you feel about the bothering experience. Hope to cultivate their ability of thinking independently and solving interpersonal problems on their own. At the end of the class, if they encounter the same problems, they can use the knowledge that they have learned in this class to solve these problems.
Step 5Summary (4 min) Summary T leads Ss to have a summary of this lesson:In this class, we learned the common interpersonal problems of teenagers. Amy told her problems in her post. The other two teenagers replied to her and give her some advice. From this lesson, we can know haw to deal with these problems. If we encounter the same problems, we can take the following suggestions. (1) Keep calm because conflicts in a friendship are natural;(2) Have a full and honest communication to clear up any misunderstanding;(3) Make an objective judgement;(4) Solve the problem together;(5) Have faith in one's friends and friendships; Before the end of the class, students and teachers will verbally retell the contents of this class to make students familiar with the context of this class. and then combined with the summary to help students make a deep impression on the contents of this class.
Homework Let the students write a short passage about their interpersonal problems.
