Returning to a book you’ve read many times can feel like drinks with an old friend. There’s a welcome familiarity—but also sometimes a slight suspicion that time has changed you both, and thus the relationship. But books don’t change, people do.And that’s what makes the act of rereading so rich and transformative.
The beauty of rereading lies in the idea that our bond with the work is based on our present mental register. It’s true, the older I get,the more I feel time has wings. But with reading,it’s all about the present. It’s about the now and what one contributes to the now, because reading is a give and take between author and reader. Each has to pull their own weight.
There are three books I reread annually. The first, which I take to reading every spring,is Ernest Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast.Published in 1964,it’s his classic memoir of 1920s Paris. The language is almost intoxicating(令人陶醉的),an aging writer looking back on an ambitious yet simpler time.Another is Annie Dillard’s Holy the Firm, her poetic 1975 ramble(随笔) about everything and nothing. The third book is Julio Cort zar’s Save Twilight:Selected Poems, because poetry. And because Cort zar.
While I tend to buy a lot of books, these three were given to me as gifts, which might add to the meaning I attach to them. But I imagine that, while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author’s work is the highest currency a reader can pay them. The best books are the ones that open further as time passes. But remember,it’s you that has to grow and read and reread in order to better understand your friends.
8.Why does the author like rereading
A.It evaluates the writer-reader relationship.
B.It’s a window to a whole new world.
C.It’s a substitute for drinking with a friend.
D.It extends the understanding of oneself.
9.What do we know about the book A Moveable Feast
A.It’s a brief account of a trip.
B.It’s about Hemingway’s life as a young man.
C.It’s a record of a historic event.
D.It’s about Hemingway’s friends in Paris.
10.What does the underlined word “currency” in paragraph 4 refer to
A.Debt. B.Reward.
C.Allowance. D.Face value.
11.What can we infer about the author from the text
A.He loves poetry. B.He’s an editor.
C.He’s very ambitious. D.He teaches reading.

I fell in love with the Little Free Library concept years ago on vacation. The concept of free literature-sharing boxes posted in neighborhoods and public spaces hooked me.For a booklover, this represented pleasure. At home,my bedside table sprouts(长出) books and from the floor rises a mountainous to-be-read pile.My husband wasn’t the least bit surprised when I suggested starting our own Little Free Library. As a writer and introvert(内向的人),I welcomed the idea of saying hello to other booklovers on occasion.
The following winter,my husband built a copy of our Irish garden shed(棚屋) with a framed glass door on the front and,in the spring, fixed it on a post in front of our house. We filled the shelves with books, and since then, visitors have refilled them with literary fiction, romances, mysteries, science fiction, cowboy westerns,young-adult fiction,poetry,how-to’s,self-help and a range of other nonfiction.
For a time after the pandemic first struck, public libraries shut down, and Amazon prioritized the delivery of essential and high-demand items.Books were less easily attained.Traffic to our library increased.I posted reminders about handwashing, and still, readers kept coming.
We wondered if we should close the Little Free Library and revisited(再次讨论)our original motivations for hosting it:to facilitate the exchange of books,to create a sense of community.Reading provides the necessary relief to the emotional pressure of life. With this in mind,we added a written reminder on staying safe in the library.
Through my teens, reading transported me to other places and eras.Books taught me about life and how people overcame adversity.I no longer felt alone in the things I struggled against.
Aside from the entertainment books offer, studies show that reading exposes us to other cultures and perspectives.Literature sheds light on the justice to be found in social inclusion and community cohesion(凝聚).Self-esteem and understanding grow in equal measure as we come to understand ourselves and our place in the world.
During this pandemic, the Little Free Library has reinforced the importance of literature and reading to our emotional and mental health. It’s become an alternate means of creating a community of people with mutual regard for humanity and the written word.We are together even when apart.
12.What attracted the author to host the Little Free Library
A.The emotional crush of life.
B.The free literature-sharing concept.
C.The sense of self-esteem and social justice.
D.The importance of exchanging books with each other.
13.What is the husband’s attitude toward building the Little Free Library
A.Objective. B.Supportive.
C.Indifferent. D.Doubtful.
14.What happened to the author’s Little Free Library during the pandemic
A.It was not allowed to be used.
B.The number of books dropped sharply.
C.It was getting more popular than before.
D.Readers questioned the motivations for hosting it.
15.What is the benefit of the Little Free Library during the pandemic
A.It has offered solutions to the pandemic.
B.It has relieved the pressure of public libraries.
C.It has exposed readers to foreign perspectives.
D.It has helped create a united and cohesive community.

Education has always been a hot topic among parents as it is directly related to the future of their children. 16 Many of them try to offer their children the best environment.
Competition between parents over children’s education may start from the kind of animated series children watch. For some parents, watching foreign animated shows is better than watching domestic ones. 17 However, this does not mean those watching foreign shows are superior to those watching domestic ones.
Domestic shows have their own advantages. They can help children learn traditional Chinese culture and history. 18 This show was based on one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature.By watching this show, children can learn more about the history of the Tang Dynasty and the development of Buddhist culture in China.Foreign shows can open a window for children to gain a better understanding of the outside world. So children ought to be encouraged to watch both as long as the content of the show is beneficial.
19 For example, children should be encouraged to read both folk tales from China and foreign countries. However, once parents hold views of superiority, the views can more or less leave an influence on their children.Innocent children, influenced by their parents, slowly hold the views that watching foreign shows is superior to watching domestic shows. 20 Once it is formed in children’s minds, parents’ education can’t be regarded as successful.
A.Take Journey to the West for example.
B.This can also be applied to other things.
C.A case in point can help understand this.
D.It’s by no means an easy task to form a sense of superiority.
E.Such a sense of superiority may make them look down upon others.
F.By watching the former, children can learn English at the same time.
G.How to educate children can be a sweet but painstaking task for parents.

(2021·山东德州高二期末)
We were three thousand miles away from home on a Random Acts of Kindness and Volunteerism Road Trip. Our funds were running low,so we had two goals today.Firstly, try out our new “Smile!” signs and see how much kindness and joy we could spread.Secondly, raise a pitiful $20 a piece by doing street performances.Singing, drawing cartoons,storytelling...as long as it is enough for the trip to Portland.
We weren’t sure how people would react to our signs.I nervously raised one up and shouted “Hi,there!” to a young couple. They looked over, momently confused, and then read my sign and broke into smiles. It worked.
Before long, our signs were popular.Strangers stopped to ask us about them. The signs are more than an invitation to “Smile!”.They’re an excuse to connect with strangers and to remember this world is full of good people. We got so wrapped up in our “Smile!” project that we forgot our other goal. Before we knew it,the sun was setting, and we had no money for our trip to Portland.
Then we noticed that a blind musician was playing guitar when suddenly a passing crowd kicked over his change jar.Change and cash scattered everywhere. Before we could run over, another man rushed to collect all the money for him.And we met the dogooder,Jared.“We want to praise you on your good deed,” I said.Jared looked at my signs curiously. We told him about our road trip, which reminded him of something similar he did when he was young. He seemed moved.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Then he said,“Look!I’d like to donate.”

We were astonished.

42.is seen 考查时态和语态。此处描述事实,所以时态是一般现在时,主语the winter solstice与see之间是被动关系,可知此处要用一般现在时的被动语态。
43.beginning 考查动词-ing形式。根据冠词the和介词of可知此处要用名词,the beginning of “……的开始”。

第二节
Then he said,“Look!I’d like to donate.”We told him,“No,thanks! We are fine. We’ve collected plenty of money.” We lied.“Please let me donate. It will make me feel like I’m a part of this adventure,” he insisted. And then Jared opened his wallet and pulled out four $20 bills. The money was exactly what we had intended to raise that day.
We were astonished. It seemed as if he had known something somehow.Seeing our expression,he smiled,“I once did something similar when I was young.I know random acts of kindness mean a lot sometimes.I just hope what I have done can do you a favor.I just hope that you can spread smiles to more people.” Hearing what he said,we were all moved.Indeed, smiles are an excuse to connect with strangers and to remember this world is full of good people. With the bills in hand,we said goodbye to Jared and continued our way to Portland, smiling.
