“I’m going to fail!” My best friend cried. She and I had this conversation almost every day while we were in high school.
The truth was that my friend never failed in any subjects. I just think that she can’t accept failures because she lives her life as a perfectionist (完美主义者). What she fails to understand is that a lot of good can come from failures. For example, failure can help build relationships. Once I was cooking dinner for a friend. I was tired, and several dishes I tried to make turned out bad. I grew more and more upset until my friend told me that I shouldn’t worry. She cared more about our friendship than the dishes. That day, I learned that failure doesn’t always make people dislike you. In fact, after she said those words to me, I grew closer to her.
Failure can make success ever more exciting. Every few years, there would be an important test in the PE class at our school. Students had to run a mile within eight minutes. I was never good at running , so I failed every time until the third year at school. Then I began working out regularly, and yet I still failed that year. A few days later, however, the teacher gave me another chance to run and I got a pass finally! You can’t imagine how excited I was.
I felt the memory of the success was as sweet as honey, because I had to overcome failure to reach it.
Now it’s clear to see that failure can teach us good lessons. It’s not an end — it can be a beginning.
What can we learn about the author’s best friend from the first two paragraphs
(
不
)A.She liked taking tests. B.She was afraid of failures.
C.She often failed in study. D.She knew how to be perfect.
What did the author finally get from a failed cooking
A.Bad feelings. B.Worries.
(
要
)C.A closer friendship. D.More experience. 26.Why did the author feel excited after the running test
Because she could work out regularly.
Because she received honey as a reward.
Because she got another chance to take the test.
Because she achieved success after many failures.

)It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver's seat is another matter.
(
封
)Road politeness is not only good manners ,but good sense. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarreling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behaviors of politeness are by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don't even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.
(
线
)However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. Typical examples are the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to. An experienced driver, whose manners are faultless, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in traffic stream without causing total blockages that give rise to unpleasant feelings.
(
内
)Unfortunately, modern drivers can't even learn to drive, let alone master the road man ship. Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.

In the final design, the opposite side of the medals has the Olympic rings engraved in the center, surrounded by five big concentric (同心的) rings. Eat your vegetables. Wash your hands. Always say "please" and "thank you". We are full of advice for our children, but when it comes to money, we often have little to say. As a result, our children may grow up with clean hands and good manners, but without any idea how to manage their money. 36
37 If your 13-year-old girl were to save $1, 000, invest( 投 资 )it at 8% and add $100 every month, by the time she's 65, she would have $980, 983!
Be careful of credit. Credit cards can help them buy necessary things and build a credit history, but they must be used responsibly. 38 Explain to your children that when you buy something using a credit card, you can easily end up paying two or three times what you would have paid if you used cash.
Teach patience. Suppose your child wants a new bicycle that costs $150. 39 And explain that by putting aside $15 each week, he will be able to buy it for himself in only ten weeks.
Provide incentive( 激励). Tell your children the importance of saving. "For every dollar he or she
agrees to save and invest rather than spend, you agree to add another dollar to the pot, " says Cathy Pareto, expert in money planning.
Explain your values. "Values and money are deeply intertwined (错综复杂的)", says Eilleen Gallo, co-author of The Financially Intelligent Parent. When your child demands that you buy something, explain why you really don't want to buy it. "You might say, 'I'd rather save that money for your education. " advises Gallo. 40

Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for taking your time to read my letter. I m a senior high school student. With the International Youth Football Matches approaching, I’d like to apply to be a volunteer.
I think I’m fit for the job. First of all, I’ m enthusiastic about football matches. Second, I can speak English as fluently as the native speakers do, which enables me to have no difficulty in communicating with people I meet. What’s more, I have experience of volunteering and I know how to get along well with others.
In short, I’m eager to be a volunteer for the matches. I will do whatever I can to help if I am accepted.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
