Neither rain nor snow nor gloom of night can separate Tennessee postal carrier Mike Crenshaw from his 4 and a half year old friend Carter Lawson or keep them from their appointed rounds.
They really hit it off over the past nine months, when Carter started bringing his neighbourhood postman, known affectionately as “Mailman Mike”, some water and a snack, The mailman brought the preschooler candy in return. The two have teamed up every day for a few minutes of delivering mail and chatting with fellow residents.
While some kids dream of being Spiderman or Batman, Carter has a different hero in mind: Mailman. “Anyone could just be like ‘Go away, kid’, but Mike has really gone out of his way to talk with Carter,” said Cassie Lawson, Carter's mum. She even got her son a matching, a mini sized postal service uniform so that he could look the part while walking the route with his buddy.
“Every letter carrier has stops he looks forward to and this is the one I look forward to every day,” said Mike. “He's the end of my day, and the best part of my day, not just because it's the end, but because he's such a cute little guy.”
Mike once invited Carter to the post office to see the inner workings of the mail industry. During his visit, Carter learnt how mail was delivered and witnessed the thrilling process of sorting mail and more, which has fuelled his dream of someday becoming a mailman, too.
The man and the little boy's connection isn't a surprise to Fredric Rolando, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers. In his opinion, kids respond to mailmen because letter carriers are a friendly part of the neighbourhood who bring something to their house every day and are someone they come to recognise and trust.

A.Enjoy the beautiful scenery of night.
B.Send letters and talk with neighbours.

You Mi, a lovely and confident 17 year old student, is the first Chinese high school student to appear on the cover of the popular young adults' fashion magazine Seventeen.
“You is IN,” said Wang Lihua, Editor in Chief of Seventeen. “She is active and mature because of her knowledge on everything from academic studies, to books on art, to movies. We found she's the very style we're looking for to represent young people's attitudes.”
You also impressed Wang with her fluent English when they first met last year. As the hostess of an English broadcasting programme at the High School Affiliated to Renmin University, You is always praised for speaking English almost like a native speaker. “I've built up my English by watching thousands of English DVDs since I was 10,” she explained.
But for You, watching isn't enough. Last year, while in Senior 1, she met a talented boy who showed self made DV movies at the English Corner in her school.
“I thought it was so cool and I knew that I should start making my own films,” she said. So she wrote a campus story, persuaded schoolmates to star in it and then began shooting a 30 minute DV movie, all in English. “I played one of the leading roles; actually I was everything in my film. I worked on it every single day during the holidays,” she recalled. The movie finally became a big hit on campus, earning You a strong reputation as a DV movie director.
But this is not the only field she wants to master. Despite being a science student, You likes art, literature and fashion design very much.
“There are people who can be artists, there are people who edit books, and there are people who become film producers. But I just hope to mix all the things up!” she said. “There is an old saying I believe: Chance favours only the prepared mind.”

This summer, most Chinese citizens have been amazed by women wearing hanfu, or Han style clothing, at subway stations, shopping malls, pedestrian streets or scenic areas. Hanfu has aroused public attention in recent years, especially among young people.
In 2018, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CCCYL) set the third day of the third month of the Chinese lunar calendar, traditionally the birthday of the Chinese people's mythological (神话的) ancestor the Yellow Emperor, as the annual Traditional Chinese Garment (服装) Day. It was aimed to promote classic Chinese culture, as well as “demonstrating cultural confidence”. Since then, the beauty of hanfu has gained more and more recognition and acceptance by common people.
Generally, hanfu refers to traditional Chinese garments worn by the Han nationality before the Qing Dynasty. Historically, Han Chinese clothing has also influenced some of its neighbouring cultural costumes, including the Japanese kimono, Korean hanbok, and clothing of Mongolia, Vietnam and Bhutan.
Hanfu appears elegant and beautiful, not only due to the thousands of years of culture behind its design. This traditional dress also stands out because of its remarkable craftsmanship, from fabric to decoration. Hanfu adopts more than 30 examples of China's invisible cultural heritage as well as Chinese arts and crafts under preservation.
Hanfu represents not only appreciation of the beauty, but also a continuation of traditional Chinese culture. Nowadays, more and more fashion designers look to hanfu for inspiration, producing fashionable examples of hanfu for a new era.
32.Why did CCCYL set the third day of the third month of the Chinese lunar calendar as the annual Traditional Chinese Garment Day
A.To help design hanfu.
B.To promote China's economy.
C.To remember the birth of the Yellow Emperor.
D.To encourage more people to know about classic Chinese culture.

A.The rich culture of hanfu.
B.The reasons for the beauty of hanfu.

D.The popularity of hanfu among young people.

How to cultivate your sense of happiness
Relieving stress and anxiety might help you feel better—for a bit. Martin E.P. Seligman, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania and a pioneer in the field of positive psychology, does not see ridding negative emotions as a path to happiness. “What makes life worth living,” he said, “is much more than the absence of the negative.” 36
To cultivate the components of well being, which include engagement, good relationships, accomplishment and purpose, Dr. Seligman suggests the following four exercises based on research at the Penn Positive Psychology Centre, which he directs, and at other universities.
Identify Signature Strengths. Write down a story about a time when you were at your best. __37__ Reread it every day for a week, and each time ask yourself:“What personal strengths did I display when I was at my best?” Writing down your answers “puts you in touch with what you're good at,” Dr. Seligman explained. The next step is to consider how to use these strengths to your advantage, intentionally organising and structuring your life around them.
__38__ Set aside 10 minutes before you go to bed each night to write down three things that went really well that day. Next to each event answer the question, “Why did this good thing happen?” Instead of focusing on life's lows, which can increase the likelihood of depression, the exercise “turns your attention to the good things in life, so it changes what you attend to,” Dr. Seligman said.
Make a Gratitude Visit. Think of someone who has been especially kind to you but you have not properly thanked. __39__ Then arrange a meeting and read the letter aloud, in person. “It's common that when people do the gratitude visit both people weep out of joy,” Dr. Seligman said. Why is the experience so powerful “It puts you in better touch with other people, with your place in the world.”
Respond Constructively. __40__ That is, instead of saying something passive, express genuine excitement. Prolong the discussion by encouraging them to tell others or suggest a celebratory activity.
A.The next time someone you care about shares good news, give an “active constructive response”.
B.Write a letter describing what he or she did and how it affected your life, and how you often remember the effort.
C.Find the Good.
D.To Dr. Seligman, the most effective long term strategy for happiness is to actively cultivate well being.
E.People like you more, relationships go better, and life goes better.
F.It doesn't need to be a life changing event but should have a clear beginning, middle and end.
G.Well being consists not merely of feeling happy but of experiencing a sense of satisfaction.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)

Dick is trying to recall an experience to tell in this narrative when suddenly he remembers this. It's a funny and true experience. Now when Dick thinks of it, he laughs a lot. But at the time when it happened, he was really frightened.
Once when Dick was a child, maybe eight years old, he had a frightening experience. He was in his house with all his family. He cannot remember when it happened very well, but it was possibly at a weekend. They were going to have a big supper and he was very happy because he liked to eat a lot. Besides, he hadn't eaten for a long time. (A long time for him might be one or two hours.) Therefore, he was starving. However, his mother and his father talked for a long time. This made him angry, because he didn't want to wait any longer. Moreover, it was time for supper. Weren't they starving
“Mother, what happened to the food?” he asked. Then she looked at him seriously and said, “You need more patience, my honey.”
“Yes,” he replied. “I see. I need to be patient. Nevertheless, I can't be patient today, because I am starving.”
Time passed, and finally food was on the table. The first dish was “puchero” which is one of his favorite dishes. This dish has beef, rice, vegetables and pork. Also, it's a very hot dish, so usually people need to wait at least half an hour before they start to eat. They can enjoy its taste better when it's not so hot. Nevertheless, when Dick saw it on the table, he got a spoon and started to eat quickly. In a moment, his face was red, and there was a strange feeling on his tongue. He had burned it. Immediately, he shouted in pain and his mother asked him, “What is the matter?” “Mother, help me! I think my tongue is going to fall off!” he screamed.

参考范文:
Born in Poland, Marie Curie, showed great interest in physics when she was young. Having no chance of being admitted to a university in Poland as a woman at that time, she went to France for further studies and received a degree in physics. In addition, she held such an attitude towards life that the weak wait for opportunities while the strong create them. With strong will and great determination, she achieved great success in discovering radium, which enabled her to win the Nobel Prize. Not only did she make great contributions to the world of science but she is regarded as one of the greatest women scientists.

参考范文:
“Don't worry, my child. Your father is going to take you to the hospital,” said his mother. Dick looked at his mother's face and he could tell she was concerned. Then his father and he went to the hospital. When they arrived there, he tried to tell the doctor his problem, but he could not because he was very nervous. His father did it for him. He doesn't remember his father's words exactly now, but his father said something like, “Doctor, I think my son burned his tongue, because he ate a pretty hot dish.”
“Open your mouth,” the doctor said after he'd heard the father's words. He did it slowly. The doctor looked at his tongue for a long time. “Do't worry, little guy. Your tongue is very hot, but it will not fall off,” the doctor finally said. When the doctor said that, his father started laughing happily. Soon the doctor was also laughing. Dick was embarrassed. However, he was happy because his tongue would not fall off. He has learned one important lesson since that day: patience is a great virtue.
