One of the greatest sources of unhappiness, in my experience, is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are.
When we see something we don't like, we wish it could be different. We cry out for something better. That may be human nature, or perhaps it's something ingrained (根深蒂固的) in our culture. The root of unhappiness isn't necessarily that we want things to be different. However, it's that we decided we didn't like it in the first place. We've judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It's not bad or good, and it just is it.”
In one of my books, I said “You should expect people to mess up and expect things to go differently than you planned.” Some readers said it's too sorrowful to expect things to go wrong. However, it's only negative if you see it as negative and judge it as bad. Instead, you could accept it as the way the world works and try to understand why that is.
This can be applied to whatever you do: how other people act at work, how politics work and how depressing the news media can be. Accept these things as they are, and try to understand why they're that way. It will save you a lot of sadness, because you'll no longer say, “Oh, I wish bad things didn't happen!”
Does it mean you can never change things Not at all. But you change things not because you can't accept things as they are, but because you enjoy the process of changing, learning and growing.
Can we make this world a better place You can say that you'll continue to try to do things to help others, to grow as a person, to make a difference in this world. That's the correct path you choose to take, because you enjoy that path. Therefore, when you find yourself judging and wishing for difference, try a different approach: accept and understand. It might lead to some interesting results.
24.The author believes that we feel unhappy maybe because ________.
A.it is our natural emotions in the life

C.everyone has their own opinions on things
D.we dislike something in the beginning

B.Enjoy what you have to do in the work.
C.Judge yourself and make a wish for you.
D.Try a new way when making the world better.

A.Accepting can make our life happier and better.
B.Expecting things to be different gives us hope.
C.Traditional culture becomes the root of unhappiness.
D.Judging good or bad is important for our world.
C
The human brain remembers negative experiences more easily than positive ones. Our brains have developed this way because threats, like dangerous animals, had a more immediate effect on our ancestors' survival compared to positive things like food or shelter. As a result, you are likely to know what makes you unhappy, but do you know what makes you happy
Research suggests that our level of happiness depends partly on factors we cannot control, such as our genes and our life circumstances. But our level of happiness is also shaped by the choices we make. If you've been chasing wealth, fame, good looks, material things and power, you may be looking for happiness in all the wrong places. Psychologists suggest that the following habits make people happier.
People who form close relationships tend to be happier than those who do not. The number of friends we have is not important. What matters is the quality of our relationships. Relationships that bring happiness usually involve the sharing of feelings, mutual respect, acceptance, trust and fun.
People who exercise regularly improve both their physical and mental well being. Some research has shown that exercise can be as effective as medication in treating depression.
When we are so interested in an activity we enjoy that we lose track of time, we are in a state of flow. The activity could be making art, playing the piano, surfing, or playing a game. People who experience flow in their work or hobbies tend to be happier.
People are more likely to be happy if they know what their strengths are and use them regularly. People who set goals and use their strengths to achieve them tend to be happier. People are especially happy when they can use their strengths to serve the greater good.
People who think positively by being grateful, mindful and optimistic are more likely to be happy. Being grateful means being thankful. Being mindful means being open to, focusing on and enjoying the experiences of the present moment. Being optimistic means being hopeful about the future.
28.Why does the human brain remember negative things more easily
A.Negative things are easy to remember.
B.Dangerous wild animals are a threat to us.
C.Our ancestors had no enough food for living.
D.Negative things tend to affect human's survival immediately.
29.How does the author like looking for happiness in material things
A.Uncertain. B.Opposed. C.Supportive. D.Optimistic.
30.What does the author suggest to us in the last paragraph
A.Enjoying our life and work.
B.Leading a happy life each day.
C.Being positive in our life and work.
D.Thinking more about the future.
31.What does this text mainly tell us
A.The factors that make people happy.
B.How to remember positive things easily.
C.The habits which people form in their life.
D.The reason why people remember negative things easily.
D
People have used pigeons to carry messages to one another for hundreds of years. In fact, pigeons were a common way to send messages right up through World War Ⅱ.
In 1815, English troops were fighting Napoleon's forces in France, and the English were believed to be losing. A financial panic swept over London. Government bonds (债券) were offered at low prices. Few people noticed that Nathan Rothschild, an English banker, was snapping__up these bonds when everyone else was trying to sell them. A few days later, London learnt the truth: the Duke of Wellington had defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. The value of the bonds soared(暴涨), and Rothschild became wealthy... all because his pigeons had brought him news of the victory before anyone else knew of it.
Carrier pigeons were used by countries in both World War Ⅰ and World War Ⅰ. Not only were the birds considered as the fastest and the most reliable way to send messages, but they could be used to reach soldiers far behind enemy lines, where radios and field telephone lines were useless. Since they could easily be released from airplanes or ships, every branch of the armed services used the birds.
Carrying messages could be a dangerous job. Some pigeons performed with such bravery that they became famous and were even awarded medals. The most famous pigeon of all may have been Cher Ami. Stationed in France during World War Ⅰ, he carried twelve important messages for American forces. On his last mission, though wounded, he carried a message that saved the lives of 194 American soldiers. For his amazing service, he was awarded the French “Croix de Guerre”.
Today, modern communication methods can carry information from one place to another hundreds of times faster than a pigeon could do it. However, few people would argue with the fact that carrier pigeons—especially those that served in the military—have earned their place in history.
32.Nathan Rothschild made his fortune by ________.
A.relying on messages sent to him by carrier pigeons
B.predicting successfully the result of the battle
C.his experience and a good knowledge of bonds
D.his ability to tell right from wrong
33.What does “snapping up” mean in the second paragraph
A.Giving away. B.Destroying.
C.Throwing out. D.Buying.
34.Why does the author provide dates and numbers throughout this text
A.To avoid mixing up the readers' minds when reading for information.
B.To prove that carrier pigeons are more important in modern times than in the past.
C.To show the influence of carrier pigeons at important points in history.
D.To explain the causes and effects of world events.
35.What is the author's attitude towards carrier pigeons
A.Doubtful. B.Negative.
C.Positive. D.Unconcerned.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Talking to yourself may seem a little shameful. According to the well known saying, talking to yourself is the first sign of madness. 36 Talking to ourselves, whether out loud or silently in our heads,is a valuable tool for thought.
Far from being mentally ill, self talk allows us to plan what we are going to do, manage our activities, regulate our emotions and even create a description of our experience. 37
As children, according to the Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky, we use private speech to regulate our actions in the same way that we use public speech to control the behaviour of others. __38__ Psychological experiments have shown that the private speech can improve our performance on tasks ranging from judging what other people are thinking to sorting images into categories. One recent study suggested that self talk is most effective when we address ourselves in the second person,as “you” rather than “I”.
__39__ If you want proof, turn on the sports channel. You're certain to see an athlete or two cheering themselves up with a bitter phrase or scolding themselves after a bad shot.
Conduct a dialogue with ourselves. 40 The private speech seems to be a particularly good way of solving problems and working through ideas. The to and from between different points of view means our thoughts can end up in expected places, just like a regular dialogue can, and might turn out to be one of the keys to human creativity.
A.What is private speech
B.But there is no need for embarrassment.
C.Psychologists refer to this as the private speech.
D.Ask questions of the self and provide answers.
E.We do a lot of private speech when we are young.
F.As we grow older,we don't abandon this system—we internalize it.
G.Although the private speech is effective, we never entirely put away the out loud speech.

Great Adventurers to Mt Qomolangma
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the impossible possible. They have been on top of the world. They climbed Mount Qomolangma!Tenzing Norgay is among the world's famous mountain climbers; he was one of the first two individuals who reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma with Sir Edmund Hillary on May 29,1953.
In 1935, he got an opportunity to join in the Mount Qomolangma expedition. He was employed by Eric Shipton. In 1953 he took part in the seventh expedition to Mt Qomolangma. As a member of the team,Edmund Hillary was also there. This expedition took 400 people,of which 362 were porters. The expedition set up base camp in March, 1953. Working slowly it set up its final camp at the South Col at 7,890m. On May 26 Bourdillon and Evans attempted the climb but turned back when Evans' oxygen system failed. The pair had reached the South Summit, coming within 91m of the summit. Hunt then directed Norgay and Hillary to go for the summit. Snow and wind held the pair up at the South Col for two days. They set out on May 28 with a support trio of Alfred Gregory, Ang Nyima and a member called Lowe. The two pitched a tent at 8,500m on May 28 while their support group returned down the mountain.
On the following morning Hillary discovered that his boots had frozen solid outside the tent. He spent two hours warming them before he and Norgay attempted the final ascent wearing 14kg packs. They finally reached the summit but only spent fifteen minutes there. Hillary took the famous photo of Norgay posing with his ice axe, but since Norgay had never used a camera, Hillary's ascent went unrecorded. Additional photos were taken looking down the mountain in order to reassure that they had made it to the top and that the ascent was not faked.
The two had to take care on the descent after discovering that drifting snow had covered their tracks, complicating the task of retracing their steps. The first person they met was Lowe, who had climbed up to meet them with hot soup. Then they climbed on down the mountain.
After a lot of struggles they stood on the top of Mount Qomolangma. They have been on top of the world!
