In the near future, IoT (Internet of Things) will drive huge innovation in the way our food is grown. Plants will have a “voice”; it's not a human voice, but a voice based on data that can tell people, computers, and machines when, for example, they are thirsty, or need more sun, medicine, etc.
Take vertical (垂直的) farms for example. Farming is moving indoors where the growth of plants can be monitored and controlled. The facilities are built vertically, so growing areas can be put in piles. This greatly reduces the amount of land needed for farming.
From an IoT point of view, vertical farms are connected in two ways. First, small sensors (传感器) in the soil or connected to plants tell a control system exactly how much light, water, and nutrition are needed to grow the healthiest crops. Sensors will also tell vertical farmers when crops are nearing their peak for harvesting at just the right time to make sure they're still fresh when they reach their final destination.
Second, vertical farms will be connected to other networks and information systems, including databases that track local demand. For example, local restaurants may input when they need fresh food supplies. And vertical farmers could get that information so they know which crops to grow in what quantities. This type of IoT system would have been unimaginable a generation ago.
Today, vertical farms are being experimented. Yet, the numbers point to a bright future for the industry, especially as the world's population continues to grow. For example, Green Sense Farms in Chicago is able to harvest crops 26 times a year using 85 percent less energy, one-tenth of the water, and no pesticides. A side benefit of lower energy use is lower CO2 output of two tons per month, with the added benefit of creating 46 pounds of oxygen every day.
1.What is the main idea of the text
A.Voice machines help plants speak up.
B.Farmers are all turning to vertical farming.

2.How do sensors attached to plants work
A.By recording farmers harvesting crops.
B.By monitoring farmers working their fields.
C.By analyzing information to preserve crops.
D.By passing information to a control system.
3.What can the IoT system help according to Paragraph 4
A.Expand the output of crops. B.Match supply with demand.

In the near future, daily newspapers and monthly magazines will probably disappear. Electronic media(媒体) can provide the same information faster and cheaper. The Internet, together with laptops and mobile phones, makes it possible that almost everyone can at any time and in almost any place get some news for free or for few fees.
You’ll browse the computer newspapers or magazines just like turning on TV. An electronic voice will tell you stories about the latest events. You’ll even get to choose the kind of voice you want to hear. Want more information on the brief story A simple touch makes the whole text appear.
There are the predictions from the experts working on the newspapers of the future. Imagined as part of home media and entertainment systems, computer newspapers and magazines would unite printed and broadcast news, offering information and analysing video images of news events.
The continuing loss of readers will lead to a small number of advertisements in newspapers. It makes no sense to spend millions of dollars to print ads.
With the development of technology, more and more electronic media have been created until now, but replacing the traditional newspapers and magazines has a long way to go, because the resistance to computer newspapers and magazines from journalism(新闻业) may be much stronger. Since it is such a cultural change, it may be not until the present journalists(新闻工作者), who aren’t used to it, die off that the newspaper industry is not considered as an industry any longer. Anyway, technology is making the traditional newspapers and magazines disappear gradually.
1.Computer newspapers and magazines have all the advantages EXCEPT that .
A.you can choose the kind of voice you like to hear
B.they are more expensive than traditional ones
C.you can get more information from them easily
D.you can easily store information for the future use
2.The underlined word “resistance” in the fifth paragraph probably means “ ”.
A.a thought which directs your action

D.a force that acts to stop something happening
3.We can infer from the passage that .
A.new things will replace the old ones in the future

Walk Out of the Comfort Zone and Try New Things
For most high school students, free periods (课,节) are useless. From what I have seen, few do homework. 1 . This makes it impossible for those who actually want to do work to complete any. As a senior next year, I think extra periods should be used to take optional subjects.
2 . Now is the time for us students to choose a suitable one. We will experiment in different fields of study. We will never know if we are interested or talented in a subject if we don't try it.
In my 8th grade, I was told that I had to take an art class as a graduation requirement;so in the 9th grade I took Studio and Art. One of the projects was to build a clay pot, but I built mine incorrectly, so it broke in the kiln (窑). 3 . Now I know for sure that I do not want to be an artist. However, the class was one of my favorites that year. I was able to try new activities and test my ability.
4 ! College is when we should focus on a specific major, but high school is when we have to figure it out.
Half of all college students change their major at some point. By doing that hundreds of dollars are wasted on classes that they would have never needed to take. So use our extra periods to find out what we want to do in college. 5 .
A.Our school offers many classes
B.We should find out what we are good at
C.I've avoided anything related to art since then
D.Instead, many are on their phones and talking
E.I found out that I have no artistic ability at all
F.Walk out of our comfort zone and try new things
G.The classes we choose can influence us in the future

3.E 根据后句“Now I know for sure that I do not want to be an artist.”
4.F 根据后句“College is when we should focus on a specific major, but high school is when we have to figure it out.”
5.G 结合上句“So use our extra periods to find out what we want to do in college.”

1.have/has seen 考查时态。由The past thirty years可知,本句应用现在完成时。 因此这里可以填have seen或has seen。
cause sth. for sb.
on the other hand是固定搭配,意为“另一方面”,用于引出相对照的另一种观点。
in a real situation意为“在真实的环境下”。故填in。
空前的work in virtual offices, shop in virtual supermarkets和even study in virtual schools是并列谓语,故用and连接。
根据第一段 “The Internet, together with laptops and mobile phones, makes it possible that almost everyone can at any time and in almost any place get some news for free or for few fees.”
根据最后一段“With the development of technology, more and more electronic media have been created until now, but replacing the traditional newspapers and magazines has a long way to go, because the resistance to computer newspapers and magazines from journalism(新闻业) may be much stronger.”
根据最后一段 “Anyway, technology is making the traditional newspapers and magazines disappear gradually.”
Nowadays, people tend to stare at their mobile phones almost everywhere—in subways, restaurants, lifts, supermarkets, everywhere. While it is normal to check your phone occasionally, if you are one of those people who just can’t stop using their phone, then you could be suffering from mobile phone addiction.
We cannot ignore the mobile phone’s negative influences. Many people waste too much time using their phones every day. Their spare time is spent on things like mobile phone games, watching Internet videos, and checking social media apps. Such constant use can lead to physical health problems like neck pain and eye disease. Relationship problems can also occur due to “phubbing”—ignoring the people around you in favour of your phone.
It is high time that people put their phones aside and raised their heads. Pay more attention to others and have more face-to-face communication. What’s more, do more exercise, which is much more beneficial than time spent on a phone. In a word, only when we learn to limit our phone use can we live a happy life.
