1) We use -est for short adjs or advs ( one syllable):
cheap --- cheapest, thin --- thinnest, fast --- fastest, ...
2) We also use -est/most ~ for two-syllable adjs or advs that end in -y:
lucky --- luckiest, early --- earliest, friendly-- frendliest / the most friendly
3) We use the most ~ for longer adjs or advs (two syllables or more):
beautiful --- the most beautiful, carefully --- the msot carefully, ...
4) Some adjs and advs have irregular superlative forms:
