Step1:Warm up
Ask and answer:
1)1. Do you know them
Are they heroes
2. What do you learn from the hero/heroine
2)Show 4 pictures and discuss the topic of“heroes”
3)Brainstorm say out“The qualities of heroes”.
Step2:Present(Activity1)
Discussion:Who is your hero (show the picture of Deng Yaping by multimedia )
1.Who is the person
2.Why she is famous
(After discussion,check the answers together.)
Step3:Listening(Activity2)
Before listening,ask the students to read the questions and then choose the correct answers(check the answers by volunteers)
Step4:Listen and read(Activity3)
1. Play the recording and ask the students to answer the questions.
1) When did she begin playing table tennis
2)How many gold medals did she get in the Olympics
3)What did she do after stop playing
2. Read together and act out the dialogue by two groups,
3. Read the dialogue again and answer the following questions.
1). Why did Deng Yaping become a great player
2). What did she do after she stopped playing table tennis
3).when did she begin playing table tennis and when did she stop playing
(Have 3 students to answer these three questions.)
4. Translate the important sentences in the dialogue:(students discuss with their partners)
1).She's my hero because she's one of the best table tennis players in the world.
2).She's won many world competitions,including four gold medals in the Olympics.
3).Whatever she does,she never gives up!
4).Deng says that she isn't cleverer than anyone else,but she has a very strong will.

Step5:Have students to read the dialogue in character,then complete the table.
Step6:Language points:
1) one of +adj. 最高级+名词复数 意为“...之一”
eg: She is one of the best football players in the world.
2) when sb. (be)+数字(years old) =at the age of +数字
eg:She started playing football when she was ten.
= She started playing football at the age of ten.
3) stop to do sth.停下来去做某事(2件)
eg:Let’s stop to have a rest.
stop doing sth.停止做某事(1件)
eg:Stop running around.
4)whatever she does,she never gives up.
whatever=no matter what,“不管怎么样”,引导宾语状语或主语从句.
类似的whoever=no matter who
wherever=no matter where
whenever=no matter when
5)including与included 的用法区别:
including 与included用于例举时,意义相同,意为“包括”,但是 including 必须放在它所修饰的同位语前,而included必须放在它所修饰的同位语后。
eg:Everyone laughed, including me. =Everyone laughed, me included.
6) as well as“既...又...”,常用于肯定句,连接前后两个成分,做主语时,遵循“就远原则”,同义词组是not only... but also...
eg :He can speak French as well as English.
She is not only pretty but also smart. =She is smart as well as pretty.
