Young people are often unhappy when they are with their parents. They often think their parents are too strict with them and can’t understand them.
When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you ask before you really start doing it.
Young people often make their parents angry by clothes they want, the music they enjoy and something else. But they don’t mean to cause any trouble. They just feel that they want to make a new culture of their own. If their parents don’t like their music or clothes, the young feel very unhappy.
If you plan to control(控制)your life, you’d better win your parents over and try to get them to understand you. If your parents see that you have high sense of responsibility(责任), they will certainly give you the right to do what you want to do.

You may have known several kinds of police, traffic police, and street police. But have you ever heard of energy-saving policemen
A group of 22 of these new policemen went to work last week in Beijing. They go around the city to see the use of energy in hotels, office buildings, shopping centers and other public places. One of their aims is to make sure that these sites have set their air conditioning no cooler than 26℃.
They also set up a special phone line so that people can tell them which buildings fail to follow the rule.
“If everyone sets their air conditioning at 26℃, Beijing will save 400 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in one summer. That’s one-third of all the usage of the city in the season,” said a TV advertisement.
Other Chinese cities, like Wuhan in Hubei Province and Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province, are going to follow Beijing’s steps in setting up a similar police team.
As one of the fastest developing countries, China is using a lot of energy. This has a great effect on the country’s environment and limited energy.
From 1986 to 2005, the country experienced 20 warm winters continuously. Numbers show that Chinese cities have to spend billion of yuan solving environmental problems every year.
At the beginning of this month, China made its first action plan to fight pollution. It aims to reduce energy usage by 20% and increase renewable energy up to 10% from 7% by 2010.
To introduce the public to a green life, last week Beijing held a show on energy-saving technology and productions. Environment-friendly machines, such as a vending machine that helps collect used bottles, have attracted lots of attention.
“We want to tell people that there are certain ways to protect the environment. Each of us can find effective ways to do it in our daily lives,” said Liu Qianguang, an environmental engineer in Beijing.

Today our life and work seldom feel light or pleasant.Instead, the whole experience of being alive begins to melt into one enormous obligation(责任). 1
We say this to one another with no small degree of pride. 2 We are unavailable to our friends and family, to be unable to find time for the sunset, to speed through our responsibilities without time for a single mindful breath — this has become the model of a successful life.
Because we do not rest, we lose our way. We lose the relaxation that gives us help. We also miss the quiet that gives us wisdom. Poisoned by the belief that good things come only through tireless effort, we never truly rest. _3 But how did we get so terribly rushed in a world filled with work and responsibility, yet it lacks joy and delight
4 _Sunday is the time to enjoy and celebrate what is beautiful and good, time to sing songs, give thanks, and walk. It is time to be refreshed as we stop our work, our chores and our important projects.
Sunday is more than the absence of work. Many of us, in our desperate drive to be successful and care for our many responsibilities, feel terrible guilty when we take time to rest. 5 Many of us still recall when, not long ago, shops and offices were closed on Sundays. Those quiet Sunday afternoons are deep in our cultural memory.
A. This is not the world we dreamed of when we were young.
B. It becomes the standard greeting everywhere, “I am so busy.”
C. We work through day and night, feeling tired out.
D. But the Sunday has proven its wisdom over the ages.
E. The reason is simple: we have forgotten the Sunday.
F. The busier we are, the more important we seem to ourselves and, we imagine, to others.
B.完成表格,阅读下面短文,根据内容,完成图表中所缺的信息。(共5小题,每小题1分,计5分)
At many Thanksgiving dinners, everyone around the table share something they are thankful for. As we know, most can do this easily . It's more important to know how to be thankful people all the time.
Be positive(乐观). No matter what happens, it's best to remember the good things. Find the bright side in bad situations, and push back against negative(负面的) opinions. Also, do your best not to compare yourself to others. But when you're around others, give expression to what you like about them. By keeping good in mind, you'll give thanks for it even more than before.
Accept the negative. At the same time, we can't pay no attention to bad things that have happened. We should learn from mistakes. It makes us become strong. Before we know it, we're thankful for negative things, too. Our mistakes can also make us humble(谦逊的),which is not all bad. Humble people have better relationships and see life's blessings(祝福) much more clearly!
Acts of kindness. Thankful people know that it's much better to give than to receive. When you're thankful, you feel it's your duty to show love to others. Some people volunteer to help people in need. Studies show that volunteers might feel happier and healthier.
Use of time. By spending time with others, you show them how much they mean to you. But we can also realize being thankful by spending time alone. When you're alone, you can think about the best parts of you day. You can list them out and think them over. You can find your way to make thanksgiving a part of your life. How wonderful it is! Just enjoy it every day!
At Thanksgiving dinners, it's easy for most people 1._______
2. ______, we must know how to be thankful people. ◆Be positive(乐观)Find the bright side and push:back against negative opinions.3._____is what we shouldn't do. ◆Accept the negative. When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you ask before you really start doing it.

Dear friends,

参考范文:
Dear friends,
In order to make the environment more beautiful, we should do what we can to protect it. First, we should plant more trees and flowers to make our city more beautiful. Also, always remember not to throw rubbish or pour waste water everywhere. As we ail know, water is becoming less and less. So it's quite necessary to save water. For example, turn the tap off after washing。Last but not the least, we'd better ride a bike or walk when going out instead of driving a car.
In my opinion, if everyone tries his best to protect the environment, our city will become nicer and cleaner! Thank you!
