Step 1 Language practice
To master the adverbial clause of time by filling the blanks.

Step 2 Grammar
时间状语从句归纳讲解
用从句来表达一件事情或一个行为发生的时间, 这个从句就叫时间状语从句。
不同的引导词引导的时间状语从句的意思也不同,常见的引导词有when,while,before,
after,until,since和as soon as。
1. since引导的时间状语从句
since意为“自从;自……以来”,多数情况下主句用完成时,从句用一般过去时。
e.g. Miss Li has lived in Shanghai since she came to China.
2. when / while引导的时间状语从句
when和while都可意为“当……的时候”。
when引导的时间状语从句既可以表示点时间,也可以表示时间的延续,即表示一段
时间,因此从句的谓语动词既可以是瞬间动词,也可以是延续性动词。此外,从句的动作既可与主句的动作同时发生,也可先后发生。
e.g. I will tell you about that thing when I meet you.
When I see the photo, I can’t help thinking of Paul.
while引导的时间状语从句表示时间的延续,即表示一段时间,而不是瞬间,因此从句的谓语动词不能是瞬间动词。此外,主句的动作发生在从句所表示的时间段之内或主从句动作同时发生。
e.g. Jenny went to the movies while I was having a class.
Mum was preparing for dinner while I was cleaning the room.
3. as soon as引导的时间状语从句
as soon as表示“一……就……”,强调主句的动作紧跟着从句的动作发生。如果主句
是一般将来时,as soon as引导的时间状语从句要用一般现在时表示将来。
e.g. I’ll send you an email as soon as I get there.
4. before/after引导的时间状语从句。
before表示“在……之前”。
after表示“在……之后”。
e.g. Before we begin dinner, my father gives thanks for the food.
吃饭前, 我父亲会表达(因拥有食物而产生的)感激之情。
Mother sometimes prepares dinner after I come back from school.
妈妈有时在我放学回家后才准备晚饭。
5. until引导的时间状语从句
until意为“直到……时;到……为止”,它表示动作或状态一直持续到某一时刻。常用于not ... until ...结构,意为“直到……才……”
e.g. They talked on until one o’clock in the morning.
The little boy didn’t go to bed until his mother came back.
本模块第一单元对话中出现了包含until的句子,但until后接的不是时间状语从句,而只是时间状语:
My parents and I are going to visit some friends in Shandong Province and we’ll stay there until the end of the holiday.
我和父母要去山东拜访一些朋友, 我们会在那儿一直待到假期结束。
此句中until之后接的短语the end of the holiday等同于时间状语从句until the holiday is over。

Public holidays in the US
Apart from Independence Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving, the US has several other important holidays during the year. Martin Luther King Day in January celebrates the birthday of the great civil rights leader. Columbus Day in October remember Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas in 1492.

1. Work in groups. Choose a Chinese festival and answer the questions.
Do people celebrate the festival in other countries or only in China
Do people celebrate the festival at the same time in different areas
Is the festival on the same day or date every year
Do people eat special food during the festival
Do people wear special clothes
Do people usually stay at home or go somewhere to celebrate
You can take the Dragon Boat Festival as an example.
2. Write sentences about the festival. Use your answers in Activity 10 to help you. Join the sentences with as soon as, until, while, when, etc.
3. Make a poster. Find some pictures showing the festival.

英文海报的写法
海报的语言要求简洁易懂、直截了当,只要说明主题和活动内容即可。海报的格式与通知基本相似,写作时应注意以下几点:
1) 标题写在正上方,可用Poster,也可

2) 海报的正文没有固定的格式,但应包括活动内容(what)、主办方(who)、时间(when)、地点(where)等;
