Every day before I went to school, my mother had to leave early for work. She had to walk half an hour to get to the bus stop. We really thought it was terrible that there wasn’t a bus stop near our street.
At school, we learned about the public transportation system (公共交通系统). The government spends a lot of money on it, and the money comes from taxes ( 税款). An idea came to me: people in my community pay taxes. This is a public transportation system. It should come closer to our homes.
My mother agreed that it would be great. But she said it would take more than one family to get the bus line to change.
I talked with my teacher about the idea and she liked it. Our class surveyed (调查) all our parents. We found that 90% of the parents would use the bus more if it was easier to get to. We also found that only 20% of the parents could get to it easily, just by walking 10 minutes. For all the others, it took between 15 and 30 minutes.
We made a map. We showed how the bus route (路线) could be changed to reach people better in our community. Then our teacher took us to meet the alderman (市政委员会委员).
The alderman was impressed by us. She said we had done a really good job of finding out the problem and trying to solve it. She promised to talk with the head of the transportation office.
Months later, just when we were giving up, our teacher got a call from the transportation office. They said we were getting the change we asked for.
Now my mother only has to walk ten minutes to get to the bus stop. So she can leave home later. She always says to me, “I am so glad you got the bus route changed.”

To help cheer up kids in El Paso after the shooting (枪击) there last year, Phaire sent some kits to them. “It was a very terrible experience. I thought the art kits would comfort them during a time of great sadness,” she said.
Recently (最近), she sent 30 art kits to Central Connecticut State University’s Literary Centre. Also, she showed primary school children there how to become artists. The children are part of the school’s free teaching programme, and Phaire’s lesson was popular. Dr Jesse Turner, head of the center, thanked Phaire a lot. He said Phaire was not only encouraging art, but also big dreams.
So far, Chelsea’s Charity has given away more than 500 kits to poor kids at school. Phaire has another big plan in mind. She said, “I want to send some kits to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A lot of kids there are going through serious illnesses, and they just need a little happiness.”
