Unit 3 Language in use
【教学目标】
本模块围绕英雄话题,开展听,说,读,写活动。语法重点是练习由so, so that 和because 引导的状语从句。通过了解英雄人物,培养爱英雄,学英雄,争做英雄的好品质,并以此发奋学习,做国家有用人才。
能够使用本模块所学的单词和短语。
通过状语从句的学习,学会总结和归纳。
虚心向他人学习,学会合作和分享。
【教学过程】
Learning objectives
To learn to use the adverbial clauses with so, so that, because.
Step 1 Review
· Talk about heroes with your partners.
· Introduce your hero and where he/she came from.
· Say what he/she did.
· Say why he/she was so important to you.
Step 2 Language practice
用because, so, so that补全句子。
1. Many people were dying ________ they did not get to hospital quickly enough.
2. There were few doctors, ___ he had to work very hard on his own.
3. He wrote books ______ they could learn about how he treated the sick.
Step 3 Grammar
1. 原因状语从句
如果从句表示的是主句行为的原因, 就构成原因状语从句。原因状语从句由表示原因的连词引导, 常用的是because, 一般放在主句之后,但加以强调时,可放在句首。
e.g. He failed the exam because he was too careless.
他太粗心了, 所以没通过考试。
since也可以用来引导原因状语从句, 表示显然的或已为人所知的理由, 常译为“因为; 既然”。
e.g. Since everyone is here, let’s start.
既然大家都到齐了, 我们就开始吧。
2. 目的状语从句
如果从句表示的是主句行为的目的, 该从句就是目的状语从句。目的状语从句可以由so that引导。
e.g. I got up very early so that I could get to school on time.
为了能按时到校, 我很早就起来了。
Mulan dressed like a man so that she could join the army.
为了能够参军, 木兰穿戴成男人的样子。
目的状语从句的特点:
从句中一般都含有表示可能性的词语, 比如could。其他可以表示可能性的词语还有will, would, can等。
3. 结果状语从句
本模块中我们接触到的结果状语从句是由so引导的, 表示“由某个行为而导致的结果”。
e.g. He worked too hard, so he fell ill again.
他工作过于劳累, 结果又病倒了。

Complete the passage with so, so that or because.
Yury Gagarin(1934-1968) was an astronaut of the Soviet Union who become the first human in space . At school the teachers liked Gagarin (1) ________ he was clever and worked hard.
