15 years ago, my parents bought a small house in the countryside, which they used for holidays. After I was born they started to go to the holiday house more. We used to drive 3 hours to get to the peace and quiet of our lovely house every Friday evening.
During the week my parents worked in London. My two brothers and I went to expensive private schools and we were all very busy. We hardly saw each other. We had several babysitters (临时保姆) as my parents had to work long hours. The only time we could be together was the weekend, and that was my happiest time. However, every Sunday morning was torture because we had to leave the house then. We all hated (讨厌) the idea of leaving our village friends and the beautiful countryside.
Last year my dad had had enough. He sold our big house near London and my parents gave up their jobs and long working hours. They bought a smaller car. We are now living in our holiday house — two adults, three kids and a dog. My parents got jobs that allow them to work from home. We never have babysitters.
The best change for me is that now I go with my brothers to a small local school. After school we get on our bikes and ride around to see friends. My life is just so different. We feel calm and happy. We have fewer things but for me it seems like we have so much more. I am so glad we have changed our way of life.

Have you heard of guerrilla marketing It is an unusual, cheap and surprising way of advertising (广告). Guerrilla marketing is not putting advertisements in newspapers or on TV. It requires creativity (创造力). Guerrilla marketing was first used by small businesses, because they didn’t have much money for advertising. However, many large companies are also using guerrilla marketing these days.
Coca-Cola did an interesting guerrilla marketing activity in 2010. The company placed a special machine in a college in the United States. If students bought one Coke from the machine, they got three instead of (代替) one. They could then give the extra (额外的) drinks to their friends. Sometimes, a hand came out of the machine to give some flowers instead of a drink. Coca-Cola filmed this special “happiness machine” and put the video online. People shared it and the company enjoyed “free” advertising.
IKEA is one of the world’s largest furniture companies. The Billy bookshelf is one of its most popular bookshelves. The year 2013 was the 30th year that it had been in the market. The company decided to do an unusual marketing activity. It set up the world’s largest outdoor library on a beach! IKEA put these bookshelves on Australia’s Bondi Beach and filled them with around 6,000 books! IKEA used this creative way to show people the product in use. Instead of using traditional advertising, the company marketed its product in a way that would interest people.
Guerrilla marketing helps people to better learn about a product or service. If the advertisement is different, people will notice it.

Years ago Erin had a serious car accident, leaving her with difficulty moving and no ability (能力) to read or watch TV. Life was so hard for her. Luckily, Pippy was there to help her through the bad times.
Pippy was the pig that Erin and her husband had adopted (收养) a few months before the accident. She comforted Erin a lot. “Pigs are social animals that have feelings just like we do,” Erin said. “She knew I was sad, even though I wasn’t crying or acting sad. She watched over me the whole time I was at home. If I was on the sofa, she wanted to be by my side. Pippy knew I was down.”
Once Erin got well, she and her husband decided to adopt another pig since they loved Pippy so much. That’s when they learned some sad facts about pet pigs. Lots of pet pigs are not cared for in a right way. Not more than 5% of pet pigs stay in one home for their lifetime. Many pig keepers abandon (遗弃) their pets.
Erin said, “We are really worried about this problem. After we adopted our second pig, Boris, we decided to start a pig rescue (营救行动).” Then Hog Haven Farm was born. Erin and her husband, the founders of the organisation, have now rescued more than 200 pigs. “Pigs are far more amazing than most people realise. They’re one of the smartest animals on the earth. People should treat them well,” Erin said.
