二、教学过程
Step 1 Warming up
When we talk about “Great books”, what words will come to your mind
Show some pictures and introduce the writers and their books to the students.
Step 2 Listening
1. Ask the students to look at the pictures.
2. Say who they are and why they are famous.
3. Play the recording and ask the students to listen carefully.
4. Now listen and check your answers.
5. Listen again and complete the sentences.
1) Confucius is well-known in _______________.
2) Shakespeare wrote ______________________.
3) Mark Twain’s stories are set __________________ of the US.
6. Listen again and fill in the blanks.
Presenter: Hello, today our guests will each introduce an important person from their countries, and we’ll discuss why they are famous.
Chinese person: Confucius was a great _________________ in ancient China. He lived over 2,000 years ago and he is ____________ in many countries.
British person: William Shakespeare was English and wrote ________________. Although he died about 400 years ago, his ______ are still seen, and his _______ are still read by many people.

Step 3 Listen and read
1. Ask the students to read the conversation silently.
2. Play the recording and ask the students to listen and read the conversation.

1. What’s up 怎么了?
What’s up 是一种非正式的用法,意思是“怎么了 出什么事了?”

【语境应用】词汇运用

e.g. The invention has a great influence on humans.

7. He was important, but I suppose he isn’t as well-known as Confucius or
Shakespeare.
他是位重要的作家,但我觉得他不像孔子和莎士比亚那么有名。
1) suppose v. 猜想;推测;相信;认为
其后可接动词不定式的复合结构或that从句。
e.g. Many people suppose him to be over 50.
I suppose that you can finish the work.
be supposed to 应该;理应;大家认为
e.g. He’s supposed to be very kind.
注意:
在句型I suppose (that) ...中,suppose与think, believe等动词的用法一样,若从句为否定句,应该否定前移。
e.g. I don’t suppose I’ll trouble you again.
我想我不会再麻烦你了。
