Reading I
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. identify the general information about the trip;
2. get the specific information about the trip;
3. describe the trip and express feelings;
II. Teaching contents
1. To learn some useful words and phrases such as
Words:
fine, join, myself, shine, clear, journey, sky, boring, finally, arrive, interest, main, culture, Internet, page, yourselves, themselves
Phrases:
a little boring , arrive at/in, can’t wait, place of interest, get off , not believe one’s eyes, by oneself, home page
2. New structures: We finally arrived at the park.
It is made of steel and is really tall.
We learnt a lot about different cultures.
Kitty’s classmate Daniel put them on his home page.
3. To improve students’ reading skills by skimming, scanning, analyzing, summarizing.
4. To know the importance of travelling and encourage the students to go travelling if possible.
III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
1. Identify the main idea and the specific information about the trip;
2. Understand how to describe the trip and to express feelings.
IV. Analysis of the teaching material
1. Clue of this lesson
The whole lesson is based on the school trip to the World Park. It tells us some time, place, weather, transport, what Linda saw and how she felt. It also tells us some places of interest. Students try to find out the changes of the writer’s feeling during the trip by reading. It’s helpful to enhance the students’ awareness of travelling . Go out, enjoy the trip and love our life.
2. Meanings of the material
Travelling is not just for fun. It helps us know people, nature, history…. We can open up our eyes, enrich our knowledge, learn more about different countries, different people and different cultures and improve ourselves by travelling.
3. Types of the material
The reading material is in a form of an email. It is easy for students to read and understand. After reading students can imitate to write a diary about a trip.

Step 1 Lead-in
1.Warm up Show pictures and ask questions
1. Can you speak out the names of places of interest we learnt yesterday

2. Learn some new words
(1) Tell a story of a superboy
T: (Show a picture of a superboy) Look! A superboy called Ben was living in the space. He was doing fine there. But he wanted to visit the Earth. The Earth was quite far away and he flew for a long time. Of course the journey was a little boring. (Show a picture of the sky.) He saw the sun shining in a clear blue sky, and he knew he finally arrived at the Earth. He couldn’t wait to get off his spaceship. (Show four pictures of the places of interest.) He saw many places of interest like the White House, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Great Wall and the Eiffel Tower. They were wonderful. He couldn’t believe his eyes. He saw the main sights of the world in just one day. (Show a picture of a home page.) He decided to put some photos of the trip on his home page. He said, “How amazing the Earth is! I enjoy myself! I want to visit the Earth again. Do you want to join me ”

3. Show the background information
T: There are so many places of interest around the world. The superboy Ben visited them in just one day, but we can’t fly like him. Then how can we visit all the places of interest from all over the world in only one day We can go to the World Park. (Show the video.) There are models of over a hundred places of interest from all over the world.

Step 2 Presentation
Teacher: The world is so big and I want to go and see. I have a dream and I’d like to go to the World Park in Beijing. There are models of more than a hundred places of interest from all over the world. We can see the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge in the park. What an amazing day it will be!
1. Watch a video and ask questions

Step 3 Skimming
Teacher: Linda went to the World Park in Beijing. She wrote an email to her parents.
