The Teaching Plan of Unit4 Do it yourself

Teaching Status:
The teaching material in the eighth grade helps the students observe and enjoy natural and cultural environment. This unit belongs to Module 1 Teenage life. It reflects the instrumental quality of English.
This lesson belongs to Unit4 Do it yourself and helps make the students aware of doing things on their own. This lesson is the first period of the unit with the status of arousing the students’ interest in DIY.
Students’ Analysis:
Students have weak English foundation and low English skills. So they can not finish tasks without the teacher’s help. Besides, they haven’t accumulated a lot of information about DIY.
Teaching aims:
By the end of the lesson,
1.Language knowledge: Students can acquire some useful words and expressions. They can also know the names of different tools and their usages.
2.Language abilities: Students practise speaking skill, reading skill, listening skill, writing skill.
3.Learning strategies: Students can compare and share their ideas; they can evaluate their answers
4.Emotional attitudes: Students can be aware of using different tools to make things by themselves.
5.Cultural awareness: Students can know the importance and fun about DIY and like to make a difference to their life.
Teaching important points: The students learn to acquire and apply new obtained knowledge before DIY.
Teaching difficult points:
1. Some difficult expressions and language points
2. How to apply the old language points to expressing their ideas in the situation-make a DIY thing for others.

Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Present the “Sandwich Festival” photos to the students.
Review the festival with the students together and lead them to think about the following questions.
T: Why is Zhang Yufan so happy
S:Because she is eating her own sandwich.
T:Do you think the sandwich is so special Why
S:Because we made it by ourselves.
Lead the students to talk about today’s topic “DIY”.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Present the study aims of this lesson.
By the end of the lesson, you will be able to
1) know what to need in DIY.(了解DIY需要什么)
2) know the names of the tools and know how to express the actions with the tools. (学会常用工具的名称,并且能使用合适的动词)
3) know how to make a dialogue in the topic of DIY.(学会用英语就DIY的话题展开对话)
4) enjoy the DIY by making cards for teachers.(学会从制作卡片中体验DIY的乐趣)
2. Present the things we need when DIY.
Ask the students to watch the video about the dialogue between Eddie and Hobo and fill in the blanks.
Eddie gives Hobo a big box. That is Hobo’s new ___________.
Here are clear ___________ on the box and Eddie asks Hobo to read them.
Eddie also asks Hobo to get some ___________.
Eddie can’t help Hobo because he thinks the box says ___________.
Ask students to read the dialogue after the teacher and find out the things we need to do DIY.
Ask the students “Which sentence is very important for DIY.”
“Here are clear instructions. Read them first.”
“You’d better get some tools.”
2. Present different kinds of tools and what they can do.
Look at the pictures and pronounce the tools.
Present the tool boxes and take out the tools in real life.
Ask them to discuss and then finish part A.
Step 3 Practice
1. Ask them to match the tools and the actions they can do.

3. Ask the students to make sentences with the names of the tools , the actions and the sentence structures.

4. Millie and Suzy are talking about DIY. Now read the questions first ,listen to the tape and answer the questions.

It stands for “ do-it-yourself”. When you do DIY, you make, repair or decorate things yourself instead of paying someone to do it.
2. What is Suzy going to do
Suzy is going to make some paper roses.
3. What does Suzy need for that
Suzy needs some paper, glue and a pair of scissors.
4. Does Suzy like DIY
She enjoys making something new.
Explain some useful language points. “stand for”, “instead of”, “pay someone to do it’’, “a pair of scissors”, “enjoying making something new”.
Read the dialogue one by one. Finish P28 exercise.
Check the answers together.
5. Now it’s time for us to make some dialogues.
Look at the models and help the students get some new ideas.
