Unit6 Study skills – suffixes
Teaching aims:
After class,
Students will be able to add the suffixes“er”、“or”、“ist”after the verbs or nouns.
Students will know some different jobs and objects with the three suffixes.
Students can talk about different jobs.
Students will understand every job is important to us.
Teaching difficult point:
Help students talk about their different jobs.
Teaching important point:
Students will be able to add the suffixes“er”、“or”、“ist”after the verbs or nouns.

Multi-media, PPT, Exercise paper
Teaching procedures:
Step1
1. free talk
Talk about the photographer in the class and ask students to pay attention to the tips : listen carefully and speak loudly. Then lead them to the purpose of these lesson- suffixes.
2. Review and lead in
Ask students about the suffixes they have learned before, then lead into today’s new suffixes.
设计意图:用教室中的真实情境导入后缀话题,带领学生回忆学过的后缀,为新的词缀学习做好准备。
Step2 presentation
1. “er”
“er” –person
Listen and lead into
Listen to the material then fill in the blacks and lead into the first suffix “er”.
Write and summarize the rules
Show students two pictures of the Everest- the highest point in the world, then give them some sentences and fill in the blanks, help them understand the word formation.
Consolidation
Ask students do give the right forms of “er” then match the jobs with the pictures.
设计意图:用语境帮助学生导入后缀“er”,然后在看图填词中让学生自行发现词性的变化以及规则。让学生自主的感受到单词词性的变化对意思的影响是很重要的。
“er”-object
Give student two special words- cook, cooker. Help students know cook is a person and cooker is an object. Give them more example to know “V/N+er” can be used as a person and an object.
设计意图:帮助学生们明白,er后缀的单词,既可以表示人的职业,也可以表示物体,用语境帮助学生理解一词多意。
2. “or”,“ist”
Watch the video and fill in the blacks to lead the suffix “or”, then ask students to give more words with suffix “or”
Explain the word monitor by using the real things.
Watch the video and fill in the blacks to lead the suffix “ist” then ask students to give more words with suffix “ist”
Ask students to pay attention to the spelling of the new words.
设计意图:用学生视频对话方式让学生很快的进入语境中,引入目标后缀。用真实的对话让学生们把所学的后缀使用到日常的对话中去。
3. task 3
Review the three suffixes and ask students to finish task 3 on the paper.
Step 3 group work
Give three situation to students: climbing the mountain, running race, a volunteer activity.
Ask students to work in a group of four people and make a conversation by using the three suffixes, ask them to write the schema on their paper to help others get better understanding.
设计意图:帮助学生们把所学的后缀单词运用到实际的生活中去,可以在小组中锻炼自己的合作学习的能力。帮助学生们把自己的对话用思维导图的形式画在纸上,帮助他们自己和其他学生锻炼对话中的思维逻辑。
Step 4 thinking
Give students a vedie and ask them to think: what job do they think is the most important
Help them to know every job is important, everyone is important
设计意图:帮助学生们去思考,让他们知道每个工作都是重要的,每个人也都是很重要的,让孩子们知道劳动无贵贱。
