VI. Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Lead-in
1. Ask students to watch a short video and answer two questions.
Question 1: What’s wrong with Jenny
Question 2: Why did she get up so late
(设计意图:通过观看视频,创设真实情境,引发学生思考我们的朋友Jenny 独自在家所遇到的问题,从而引出本课主题Home alone)
Step 2. Language focus
1. Ask students to listen to the dialogue in Unit1 and fill in the blanks.
2. Let students review what they have learnt in Unit 2 by completing the passage with the correct form of the words in the box.
(设计意图:通过听录音完成表格中所缺的单词来复习Unit 1对话内容以及重要的语言点;通过用所给词的正确形式补全短文的方式来巩固Unit 2 的重点词汇。)
Step 3. Grammar focus
1. Ask students to watch a micro-lecture about the adverbial clauses with although, so…that.
2. Let students complete the sentences with the words although, but, that.
3. Let students complete the sentences with their own ideas.

(设计意图:先让学生观看微课视频学习although 引导的让步状语从句和so…that 引导的结果状语从句,然后完成相关的语法练习题。)
Step 4. Reading
1. Fast-reading (Read for main ideas.)
Ask students to read the passage about the film Home alone in Unit 3 and match paragraphs with the main ideas.

Part 2: Why was Kevin left alone at home
Part 3: What did Kevin do at home
2. Careful-reading (Read for details)
Let students read the passage carefully and answer the four questions.
Question 1: What are Kevin’s family planning to do
Question 2: What does Kevin do
Question 3: How does Kevin feel at first when he is alone at home
Question 4: What does Kevin do when he is alone at home
3. Post-reading (Read and think)
Question 1: If you are alone at home, can you look after yourself well
Question 2: How can you look after yourself well
Step 5. Discussing in groups
1. Ask students to work in groups of six and talk about how to live alone.
2. Let each group choose one topic and make a leaflet.
3. Invite a member of each group to show their ideas and give proper comments.
Step 6. Writing
Ask students to write an email to our friend Jenny and give her some advice about how to live alone.
Step 7. Summary
Lead students to summarize what we have learnt in this lesson.
