Good morning, my name is.... I’m glad to interpret my lesson here. The lesson I’m going to talk about is the reading part in Unit 5 ---- Elias’ story. My teaching plan will include 5 parts.

Part one Analysis of the Teaching Material(教材分析)
1. Status and Functions:
(1) About the passage
The lesson is the reading part of this unit. According to Elisa’ telling, our students can think about what kind of person Mandela is. They can develop their reading ability and also learn the great qualities of Nelson Mandela. It shows the teaching theory that students are the real master but the teacher is just a director.
(2) About the students
As Senior one students, they are curious about everything but at different levels. Some of them dare not express their opinions so that they are not so active in class. Therefore, I arrange different levels of activities to arouse their interest and courage.
(Based on the analysis of the teaching material, I have chosen the following as the teaching aims of my lesson:)
2. Teaching aims (教学目标)
(1) Knowledge aims(知识目标)
a. master some words and expressions, such as active, selfish, devoted, generous, and so on.
b. let the Ss learn sth. about the life of Nelson Mandela and some other great people.
(2) Ability aims (能力目标)
a. improve the student’s reading ability, especially skimming, scanning
b. train the Ss’ ability of working in pairs and groups and learn to communicate and cooperate with others
(3) Emotional aims(情感目标)
a. encourage the students to be interested in learning, and build up correct outlook on life.
b. learn more about South Africa and find out the great of Nelson Mandela.

(I arrange three games to get the students ready for reading.)
Game one ---Guessing game (Guessing some great people )
I will show some descriptions of great people and let the students to guess who they are
Purpose : To motivate Ss’ learning interest and to get to know some great people;
Task two ---Brainstorm –What qualities should a great person have?
Purpose: This step is to recall learned words and form the word map.
Task three ---Enjoy a video about Mandela
Purpose: In this way they can learn some basic information of Mandela so as to lead in the new passage.
Step 2 Reading
(I guide the students to read the passage by three steps. First predict before reading, second read as a whole, third read for some details. First of all, let’s come to prediction. I let the Ss to look at the title and the picture, then predict )
Ⅰ. Prediction
1.What’s the relationship between Nelson Mandela and Elias?
2.What kind of writing is the text, can you guess?
Purpose: The questions can train Ss’ predictive ability
Ⅱ. Skimming
(With the prediction, I let the Ss to listen to the tape which contains some explanation pictures and words, and then finish the two questions)
1.Divide the passage and complete the main idea of each part.

Purpose: This part is to help Ss learn to describe a person in time order and lay the foundation for the writing part on Page39
Activity②: Further comprehension
Here are three questions for the students to discuss in groups and then choose one picture to answer:
1. According to the text, what were the situations for black people in South Africa?
2. How did the ANC Youth League fight against the government?
3. From Mr. Mandela’s sayings, what can we conclude?
Purpose: These questions are to consolidate the content of the passage and deepen their understanding of it. Ss can work in groups and have a better understanding of the text. Moreover, it can cultivate(培养) their team-work spirit. Combining choosing pictures with questions can motivate their interest.
Activity③:Interview
(Four students, one group)
Student A
Student B are reporters ; Student D is Elias.
Student C
(Make an interview between reporters and Elias about Nelson Mandela. These questions can help them)
Purpose: This activity is to improve their speaking skills;
consolidate the learning of this class;
and encourage Ss to cooperate with each other.
Step 4 Summary
(That’s all about my teaching procedure. From the passage, the students have learn more about racial discrimination in South Africa and the great of Mandela. Through the passage, their reading ability is improved. At last, I ‘d like them to know )
A great man is one who has followed his ideas and given up something to make his dreams come true.
Let’s set up a goal and work hard to make us a great man and build our country stronger.
(While making the summary, I’ll play a video about a song “Glory Days” by Huang JiaJu, telling them that the song was written for Nelson Mandela.)
Purpose: I’d like the students to be aware of the great and contributions of Mandela and build up correct outlook on life.
Step 5 Homework
(The passage doesn’t contain enough information about Mandela. To let Ss have a better understanding of him and review what they have learnt. I set two homework.)

Part five Teaching reflection
In this lesson, I guide the students to understand the passage step by step using different reading activities. They can not only learn about the great qualities of Mandela, but they also improve their reading skills. This can lay a firm foundation for their further learning. Meanwhile, I believe Mandela’s deeds must have a strong effect on their daily life.
