一、阅读理解(共15小题; 每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
A
●Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when you’re going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you have already had in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
●Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
●Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school,I was really nervous too, especially since I had been home-schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
●David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; some students may pick on(故意刁难) you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week, it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
1. What can we learn from Sharon’s words about high school
A. Teachers are quite strict. B. Students often stay up at night.

[原创题]Many people, some even at a very young age, set the goal of graduating from college. One American woman in Texas waited a long time for her chance to reach that goal.
Janet Fein, born in 1934, received her bachelor’s degree (学士学位) from the University of Texas in 2018. Fein has had a full life. She raised five children and then had a career as a secretary (秘书) until she retired at age 77. But even then, she was not ready to take it easy and rest during a well-earned retirement. She decided to major in sociology.
Fein grew up in the Bronx area of New York City. In high school, she just wanted to finish and get a job. After graduating early, at the age of 16, she went to work as a secretary.
After getting married, she spent 18 years staying home with her children. She held several jobs throughout her life, including being a secretary at a Dallas hospital. That is the job she retired from in 2011. She received an associate degree in 1995. But she also wanted to earn a bachelor’s degree. Fein took part in a state program that lets people who are 65 and older take free classes at public universities in Texas.
She kept going to class even as her health condition worsened. During her studies, it became necessary for her to use a walker to get around and she required oxygen. She also developed knee problems. So, Fein took online classes to finish the last part of her degree requirements.
Renee Brown is one of Fein’s caregivers. She says Fein has also inspired her. At 53, she plans to begin nursing school to further her career. Brown says Fein told her, "Renee, you can do it. If I can do it you also can do it, and you will feel so good about it."
4. When did Janet Fein start to work

7. What can we learn from Janet Fein’s story

Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son. Suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. "The door to his room is always shut," Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. "She used to cuddle up(依偎) against me on the sofa and talk," said Mark. "Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is understanding which time is which."
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their mind. "In fact, parents are first on the list," said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. "This completely changes during the teen years," Riera explained. "They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last."
Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental(思想的) break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.
8. "The door to his room is always shut" suggests that the son__________.
A. keeps himself away from his parents B. begins to dislike his parents
C. is always busy with his study D. doesn’t want to be ignored
9. What does trouble Tina and Mark
A. Their daughter isn’t as lovely as before.
B. They can’t read their daughter’s mind exactly.
C. They don’t know what to say to their daughter.
D. Their daughter talks with them only when she needs help.
10. Which of the following best explains "the wall of silence" in the last paragraph
A. Teenagers talk a lot with their friends. B. Teenagers do not understand their parents.
C. Teenagers talk little about their own lives. D. Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.
11. What can we learn from the passage
A. Parents shouldn’t be angry with teenagers. B. Parents have to talk with children face to face.
C. Parents are unhappy with their growing children. D. Parents should try to understand their teenagers.
D
Han Tianheng picked up a carving knife at the age of 6 and never put it down. Today, the 80-year-old artist, one of China’s most respected living masters of seal carving (印章雕刻艺术), calligraphy and Chinese painting, still remembers the incident — the first time he held a knife in his hand.
"I cut my thumb badly and was frightened by the bloody sight," he said, adding that his mother applied ash because she couldn’t afford to take him to a hospital. The cut left a scar, which is still clear today.
The incident didn’t set him back. Instead, it aroused his passion for the ancient art form. He was determined to follow a path that would lead to a career in seal carving.
The journey of art exploration was a little hard for the young man in his search for excellence, and his seal works were seriously criticized (批评)by a famous old painter. Most would have given up under the criticism, not Han. It made him even more determined. After six months’ hard work, he visited the painter again.
"This time, he asked me to carve a seal for him. This was something positive,"Han said. "Praise and criticism are what an artist should learn to deal with all his life. Praise is candy and criticism is medicine. We can live without candy, but cannot live without medicine when ill,"he added.
Han rose to fame during the early 1960s, famous for bird and insect seal art. Han’s seals are an important ending part on the paintings of a long list of well-known artists.
"A seal for a good painting is like the buttons for haute couture (高档女子时装). An experienced tailor always knows how to choose buttons that match the whole style," Han said.
His seals are full of variety — grand and serious for Liu Haisu’s paintings, light and vivid for Lu Yanshao’s, graceful and gentle for Xie Zhiliu’s.
"A good seal carver should keep his own style, and at the same time go well with the painting’s style," he said.
12. What influence did the incident have on Han when he was six
A. He got injured very seriously. B. He learned how to use a knife.
C. It made him interested in seal carving. D. It helped him learn how hard life was.
13. Which best describes Han’s journey of art exploration
A. Tough but rewarding. B. Boring but worthwhile.
C. Inspiring and lucky. D. Smooth and fruitful.
14. In Han’s opinion, what do an experienced tailor and a good seal carver share
A. The huge respect they earn. B. The common customers they serve.
C. The flexibility they display at work. D. The efforts they have to make to succeed.
15. In which section of a newspaper does this passage most probably appear
A. Education. B. People. C. Entertainment. D. Events.

The other day, I was getting ready to go to teach my English class. And, time ran out and I had to go to class, where it was my night to get judged by the program director. My adult students are so wonderful. They really encourage me to be a good teacher and to keep pushing myself to improve. So, after class, the director and I were talking about my teaching and she said she was so thankful to me for my energy. Then one of my new students overheard(无意中听到) some of the discussion and she pointed to me and said to the director, "He is an excellent teacher! A very nice teacher!" My heart rose as I replied, "Thank you!" I was so, so touched by that.
Then, my director spoke about how sad everything might be in life but we should never give up. After we were done, as I was walking to my car, a man came close to me. He asked me for some money. He said he was so hungry, and he just wanted something to eat. I had no cash(现金). But, we were right in front of a store, so I asked if I could buy him something to eat. The man excitedly said yes. We went inside, and he picked up a bottle of Coke and asked if he could get that. I said,"Certainly, please get whatever you like." He picked out a box of cookies and said that was all he wanted. I wanted him to take more. I asked him if he wanted fruit, some bread, a sandwich, and anything else. He said no. He was happy with the Coke and cookies. Then we went up to the counter (柜台) and we had to wait a bit. Then I reached out my hand and introduced myself. He told me his name was William and that he was homeless. We talked for a while and I apologized for the wait, and we both laughed about that.
Then it was our turn, but the store only took cash that I didn’t have. _________________________________

How nice to see your post on the Internet! ①It’s very interesting that you, an American, show so much love for Beijing Opera!
I’d like to be your pen friend, for I’m a senior high school student as you are and I’m crazy about Beijing Opera too. What’s more, my dad is working as an actor in one of the Beijing Opera theaters. He is open-minded as well as easy-going. I’m sure my dad and I can be helpful. ②I believe we will have much to share and can get along well with each other.
Please write back as soon as possible so that we can make a plan.
Yours sincerely,

六、读后续写(满分25分)
【解题导语】本文讲述了一位善良的老师热心帮助一位无家可归的人, 给他买食物的故事。
【写作思路】所给段落开头语"Then it was our turn, but the store only took cash that I didn’t have"承接上一段。
One possible version
Then it was our turn, but the store only took cash that I didn’t have. So, I asked where the nearest bank was and then we went to the bank. As we were waiting in the bank, the man said, "You are so nice. Most people aren’t like you. You’re different. You’re so kind-hearted!" I was so touched by his words. After we left the bank and walked back to the store, I gave him some money, with the hopes he could get his Coke and cookies, and also had a little extra money for something else later. Then, we parted and I continued my way into the darkened night.
