I’m a college student, but I don’t dress like one. I like to dress nicely. My friends call me “Dapper (衣冠楚楚的) Dan”.
One day, I hung out with a friend. She was shopping for clothes. While she was trying on some clothes, I stood outside the dressing room. A woman walked up to me. She thought I worked there.
“I don’t want this shirt,” she said. “Can I just give it to you Is changing room 3 open I want to try these pants on.”
I calmly took the shirt, pointed to an employee (雇员) and said, “Let’s ask that young lady. I think she works here.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” said the customer(顾客), laughing. “You’re just dressed so fancy.”
“Thank you, and it’s no trouble at all,” I said. “I’m just waiting for my friend.”
I walked up to the young lady. “Excuse me, is changing room 3 open ” I asked.
“Go for it,” she said.
“Perfect!” I said. “And can I just leave this shirt with you ”
“Yeah, sure,” said the young lady.
Just then, the floor manager came up to me. He had seen the whole conversation.
“You handled (处理) that very well,” He said. “Would you like to work here ”
It happened exactly at the time when I was looking for a new job. I wanted to move off campus (校园), so I needed to pay for my own housing. A week later, I was getting paid to help customers. A month later, I was in my own rental apartment. This all happened because of how I dressed that day.

Trendy colors in history
Yellow and gray are the Colors of the Year for 2021. People would like to wear clothes, bags and shoes with these colors. In ancient China, there were popular colors during different dynasties.
Purple
During the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Huan of Qi (齐桓公) liked the color purple. He always dressed in purple. So his people all wore purple clothes, even if some didn’t like the color. Purple clothes cost a lot at that time. People had to catch sea snails (海蜗牛) to make the color purple. But these animals were hard to catch.

Black
In the Qin Dynasty, people’s favorite color was black. From emperors (皇帝) to soldiers (士兵), everyone wore black. Even their flags were black. The Qin people believed that black was the color of water. Water was one of the five elements (五行). People thought that water brought them good luck.

The Forbidden City (紫禁城) was built during the Ming Dynasty. The palaces and walls are all red. Red was a noble color at that time. Uniforms
People wear uniforms for different reasons. We students wear school uniforms at school to show good discipline. Firefighters wear special coats and helmets to protect themselves from heat and falling ceilings. Soldiers wear green clothes to protect themselves in the forest.
When officials dress in their official uniforms, they look important. When we see airline pilots wearing uniforms at the airport, we believe that they they know how to fly the plane. If we have a car accident on the street and we see a police officers in uniform, we know we can get help from him or her. When doctors wear uniforms, it is easy for patients to find them. Also, their uniforms are clean so they can stop the spread of diseases.
Different uniforms show different jobs. So it’s necessary for us to know different uniforms in our daily life.
