With its snow-covered mountains and a variety of wildlife, Yellowstone National Park is one of the scenic treasures of the United States. Located primarily in Wyoming, the park receives millions of visitors every year. If you plan to travel within the park, keep in mind the advice from the National Park Service.
Seasonal Travel
Travel varies vastly from season to season. Roads are generally open in the summer except for cases of rock or mud slides, wildfires, accidents or road construction. Early snows in the fall can cause some roads to be closed temporarily. In the winter almost all roads are closed to motor vehicles, but snowmobiles (摩托雪橇)and other vehicles with snow chains are allowed. Roads begin to open in the spring by the latter part of April but will be closed if snowfall continues.
Driving Time
Grand Loop is the main road through Yellowstone National Park; it passes by most of the major attractions. These include Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The maximum speed limit on the Grand Loop is 45 miles per hour, but the speed limit drops during some of the winding and twisting sections of this narrow road. Allow yourself at least two days to fully travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic.
Safety Awareness
Buffaloes (水牛) often block the roads in the park as they move through the fields. If a herd is travelling across the road you are on, you can either wait for them to pass or find an alternative route. If you get out of your vehicle, the National Park Service suggests that you stay at least 25 yards from any buffalo (and 100 yards or more away from bears and wolves). Buffaloes are particularly unpredictable and charge towards people at a speed of up to 30 mph.
You can ride your bicycle on any public roads and routes designed for bikes, but bicycles are not allowed on the park roads which are narrow. Altitudes range from 5,300 to 8,860 feet. The National Park Service recommends cyclists wear helmets and noticeable clothing.
1.What do we know about travelling in Yellowstone National Park
A.Roads will stay open in case of emergency.
B.Traffic jams happen from time to time.
C.The driving speed on the road can be 50 mph.
D.Motor vehicles are allowed in the winter on all the roads.
2.What does the National Park Service suggest people do about safety
A.Stay inside the car throughout the travel.
B.Get out of vehicles when coming across the buffaloes.
C.Wear easy-to-see clothes while bicycling.
D.Avoid bicycling on the public roads.
3.From which is the text probably taken
A.A guidebook. B.A commercial advertisement.
C.A research paper. D.A geography textbook.

AUSTRALIAN adults want to see "life skills" introduced into school curriculums (课程), including money management, job preparation and domestic tasks. New research from Monash University showed Australian adults also widely supported the inclusion of technology, coding and artificial intelligence subjects to school curriculums to prepare them for future jobs.
Co-author Professor Neil Selwyn said the survey results of more than 2,000 Australians had taken himself and Dr Deana Leahy by surprise. "The life skills — I wasn't expecting that at all," he said. Those quizzed were asked to rate the value of a list of subjects already in the curriculums, but were also given an open space to write what they thought should be included. Prof. Selwyn said people called for schools to teach financial skills, budgeting, cooking and doing taxes. "You could argue that these are things people should be learning themselves, or learning from their families," Prof. Selwyn said. "But we've got to think forward in terms of the skills people will need for jobs and their ways of living. "
One respondent (调查对象) said schools should introduce a "contemporary life skills" subject : "A compulsory 1 -hour class a week on skills is needed that parents seem continually unable to teach their kids". Suggestions for the class included resume writing, filing tax returns and health claims. Another respondent called for students to be taught "general life skills as unfortunately not enough kids will have parents to actually be bothered to educate them or simply parents don't know themselves".
Of the subjects, maths was the highest ranked (75.5 percent), followed closely by English (74. 8 percent). And while science was the third highest ranked subject (46. 2 percent), it was more strongly supported by those who earned higher wages and were university educated compared to lower income earners.
Aspects of school life considered least important were students having fun, learning about things that interested them and being given the opportunity to be creative.
1.Why did the adults suggest adding "life skills" to school curriculums
A.To vary school curriculums. B.To enrich students' school life.
C.To save parents the trouble of educating kids. D.To make preparations for students for future work.
2.What did Prof. Selwyn think of the adults' suggestions
A.Reasonable. B.Ridiculous. C.Interesting. D.Impractical.
3.What does Paragraph 3 focus on
A.Differences of school subjects. B.Reasons for the school survey.
C.Opinions from the people surveyed. D.Investigations of the respondents.
4.What does the text mainly talk about
A.Schools should provide more practical classes.
B.Children should prepare themselves for the future.
C.Schooling is the most important aspect of human society.
D.Australians supported universities in introducing life skills into school projects.

For Alison Rollinson, picking out the best experiences from her volunteer work is a major challenge.
"There are so many to choose from," said Rollinson, who has spent more than one year doing disaster volunteer work after Hurricane Katrina.
"The best parts are having the opportunity to be in an environment where you can meet the needs of people and know that your time is being used in a good way," she said.
After spending her first few months working as a volunteer, Rollinson was hired full-time. Taking the step to do disaster relief work full-time—first as a volunteer and then as an employee—was just what needed to be done, Rollinson said.
Before Katrina hit, Rollinson had planned on moving to Key Largo and working as a hotel clerk. Seeing the need on the Gulf Coast, Rollinson changed her plans.
"I've always been interested in helping people out, and then, because of this hurricane and the devastation(毁坏) I saw on TV, I felt that my time would be better spent doing disaster work for a few months rather than sitting in a hotel," she said.
Rollinson said, "I haven't regretted that decision once. The experiences have been life-changing and have taught me a lot about myself and the Gulf Coast residents."
She said, "I hope that my experience will inspire others to come to the Gulf Coast to help, especially since so much work remains to be done. The needs are great for the Gulf Coast residents and volunteering to help is easy."
"All people have to do is to have an open mind and give us a call," Rollinson said. "Anyone can come here and they can help out in many different ways. It's great to be in such a supportive place where you can really feel the love."
1. According to the passage, Rollinson thought that _____.
A. she had got lots of wonderful experiences from volunteer work
B. she had made great contribution to the Gulf Coast residents
C. she would take measures to do more disaster relief work
D. she would contribute her life to volunteer work
2. Rollinson hasn't regretted her decision to be a volunteer because _____.
A. she has got a better job after volunteering
B. she can work in a hotel on the Gulf Coast
C. she regards volunteering as a valuable experience
D. she has known many people on the Gulf Coast
3. Rollinson helped the Gulf Coast residents and hoped _____.
A. to learn more about disasters
B. to inspire more people to become volunteers
C. to call for more people to come to live on the Gulf Coast
D. to gain a better reputation for herself
4. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. A Volunteer Happy to Help
B. Volunteers on the Gulf
C. What a Volunteer's Duty Is
D. How to Be a Volunteer

Big Brothers Big Sisters is based on the simplicity and power of friendship. It is a programme which provides friendship and fun by matching vulnerable young people (ages 7—17) with a volunteer adult who can be both a role model and a supportive friend.
Volunteer tutors come from all walks of life—married, single, with or without children. Big Brothers and Big Sisters are not replacement(代替者) parents or social workers. They are tutors: someone to trust, to have fun with, to talk and go to when needed.
A Big Sister and a Little Sister will generally spend between one and four hours together three or four times each month for at least twelve months. They enjoy simple activities such as a picnic at a park, cooking, playing sports or going to a football match. These activities improve the friendship and help the young person develop positive self-respect, confidence and life direction.
Big Brothers Big Sisters organisations exist throughout the world. It is the largest and most well-known provider of tutor services internationally and has been operating for 25 years.
Emily and Sarah have been matched since 2008. Emily is a 10-year-old girl who has experienced some difficulties being accepted by her schoolmates at school. "I was pretty sure there was something wrong with me."
Emily's mum came across Big Brothers Big Sisters and thought it would be helpful to Emily by "providing different feedback(反馈) about herself other than just depending on schoolmates to value her self-worth."
Sarah wanted to take part in a volunteer programme. "I googled it and found out how to be a part of it. I thought it would be fun for me to take part in making time to do something because sometimes it is all work and no play."
Big Brothers Big Sisters has been helpful and enjoyable to both Emily and Sarah. They love and look forward to their time together and the partnership has certainly helped Emily be more comfortable in being the wonderful, happy and unusually good girl she is!
1. What is the aim of Big Brothers Big Sisters
A. To offer students public services.
B. To help students improve their grades.
C. To organise sport activities for young people.
D. To provide partnership and fun for young people.
2. A volunteer is usually expected to work within a year for at least _____.

C. 48 hours D. 72 hours
3. Why did Sarah want to join in the programme
A. She used to be a volunteer.
B. She needed a part-time job.

Alexis Vaughan, 17, sat quietly in the passenger seat of her dad's car. She stared out the window at the cornfields in Idaho.
Alexis, a high school student, let her eyes lazily scan the landscape of wildlife. Still, she was terrified when a deer came into view about 200 yards in front of them, just a few feet off the road. "Dad, there's a deer, there!" Alexis said, rolling down the window for a better look. It was a three-point buck(雄鹿)—a male deer with sharp, three-pronged antlers on each side of its head.
As the car moved closer, Alexis saw that the buck's head was bent toward the ground. Then she heard a scream. A few seconds later, she saw an arm fly up near the buck's head. Alexis realized the buck was attacking a woman. Sue Panter, a 44-year-old mother, had been out for her morning run. The buck had come out from the tall com and began following her. Having lived in rural Idaho for years, Sue knew that most bucks got frightened by humans. But this buck edged closer, even when she threw at it with a handful of gravel(石子).
Sue went to pick up a log to use for self-defense, and the buck charged. It lifted her with its antlers and threw her into the air. Sue could feel the horns punctured(刺穿) her leg and blood flowed down her leg. Within seconds, the buck had pushed her off the road and into the cornfield.
When Alexis and her father pulled up, the buck was rolling Sue like a rag doll. Alexis looked into the woman's terrified eyes, and before her father had even stopped the car, the 104-pound teenager jumped quickly out of the car and down the slope(斜坡) toward the buck. She was kicking and hitting it to get its attention. Then Michael, her father, who had followed his daughter, wrestled the buck away from the woman by holding the antlers.
Paragraph 1:
Alexis helped Sue up the slope. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Then she heard her father yell. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A
Allow yourself at least two days to fully travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic"可知,考虑到公园的规模和有时会遇上堵车,你需要给自己至少两天时间来完成全部旅行,由此可知,黄石国家公园的道路有时会发生交通堵塞,故B项正确。
You could argue that these are things people should be learning themselves... their ways of living"可推知,虽然一些人有不同的意见,但Selwyn教授认为这些建议是合理的。 reasonable"合理的";ridiculous"荒谬的";interesting"有趣的";impractical"不现实的"。
根据第三段中的"One respondent(调查对象) said schools should..."及"Another respondent called for students..."

由“It is a programme which provides friendship and fun by matching…”
注意题干中所提的at least,定位时需要注意题干中“volunteer”到文中“A Big Sister and a Little Sister”的转换,定位之后,理解“between one and four hours together three or four times each month for at least twelve months.”
由最后一句中的“I thought it would be fun for me to take part in making time to do something because sometimes it is all work and no play.”
解析:①分析上文“When it comes to the benefit of volunteering, a lot of people think it's all about the warm feeling after helping someone.”和下文“It means that there are some surprising benefits for volunteers. For example, volunteering”可知,做志愿者的好处有很多,远远不止这一个好处,故D项合理。
②根据上文“It means that when you get involved in charity work, a lot of the time you will face challenges.(这就意味着你参与慈善活动时会遇到挑战)”可知,只有通过克服这样的挑战,你才能学会全新的技能,故本题F项正确。
③根据上文“When you've been at it for a while, you just might find yourself re-evaluating your advantages.(当你做了一段时间的志愿者后,你会发现你会重新评估自己的优势)”可知,这样你甚至可能决定在生活中选择完全不同的道路,故本题C项正确。
④根据下文“Maybe it's not so surprising, but what might surprise you is how genuine these friends are.(这一点也许不会让你惊讶,但是让你惊讶的可能是这些朋友如此真诚)”可知,做志愿者的好处的这一条应该是“帮助你交新朋友”,选A项。
⑤上文“Summed up in one line: Volunteering helps you grow.”

7.由后面的“many gasoline stations were either dosed...”
it was my turn“轮到我了”。

Hello, everyone! I'm glad to have this chance to share some ideas about garbage classification with you.
In my understanding, the earth is home to every individual, and it's our duty to protect the environment voluntarily. By sorting the waste, we can not only reduce pollution but also conserve energy, which will pave the way for the recycling of valuable resources.
For the sake of our environment and life, we are expected to learn to sort the rubbish and make it a habit. Every individual can make a difference and let's bring a brighter future for the planet!
Thank you!
第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
Alexis helped Sue up the slope. With all her strength, she immediately seated her into their car, and then applied a clean towel from her bag to Sue's right leg tightly, which would help to stop its bleeding. Sue was covered with wounds from head to toe and she was in rags because of the severe attacks. Apparently Sue was too shocked by the accident to let out a word. Alexis talked softly to comfort the terrified woman and thought about how to help her father.
Paragraph 2:
Then she heard her father yell. Michael had been knocked to the ground, his right leg punctured by the buck. Alexis grabbed a hammer from the car and ran to where Michael lay on his back in the dirt. She beat the buck's head and neck, but the blows didn't work. Standing beside her father, Alexis could see that he was struggling to breathe. Turning the hammer around, Alexis shut her eyes and hit the buck's neck. When she opened her eyes, the buck was running away. Alexis got in the driver's seat and sped toward the hospital.
