Nelle Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926. Since Lee's mother was mentally ill, she was raised by her father. She became very close to her father.
The naughty Lee loved reading, and would make up stories with Truman, her neighbour who was two years older than her. Seeing his daughter's imagination, Lee's father gave her a typewriter. Before her final year in the University of Alabama, Lee dropped out to become a writer. She moved to New York City where her childhood friend Truman was already established as a famous writer. While there, she worked on her first book——To Kill a Mockingbird. It won her the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was made into an Oscar-winning movie the following year. To Kill a Mockingbird tells the story of six-year-old Scout and her brother who lived in the town of Maycomb, Alabama with their single father Atticus. Atticus is a lawyer who defends the blacks. At a young age, Scout exposed the terrors of segregation (种族隔离).Then, in 2014, the first draft of a new book—Go Set a Watchman was discovered among Lee's papers. It is the story of 26-year-old Scout who returns to Maycomb to visit her father. She is shocked to find her father a changed man. Atticus has turned into a segregationist! The story shows the mixed feelings Scout has for the changes that have taken place in her hometown and her father.

C
When you set foot outside of your door to drop trash, go to a social event or go for a walk, thoughts like "I hope I don't see anyone I know" or "please don't talk to me" may run through your mind. I've also said such things to myself. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is talk with someone, especially someone new. Why do we go out of our ways to avoid people Do we think meeting new people is a waste of time Or are we just lazy, thinking that meeting someone new is really a trouble
Communication is the key to life. We have been told that many times. Take the past generations, like our parents, for example. They seem to take full advantage of that whole "communication" idea because they grew up talking face to face while Generation-Y grew up staring at screens. We spend hours of our days sitting on Facebook. We send messages to our friends and think about all of the things we want to say to certain people that we don’t have the courage to actually do in reality.
Nowadays, we are so caught up in our little circle of friends—our comfort zone. We love it that they laugh at our jokes, understand our feelings and can read our minds. Most importantly, they know when we want to be alone. They just get us.
Holding a conversation with someone new means agreeing with things that you don't actually believe and being someone you think they want you to be—it is, as I said before, a trouble. It takes up so much energy, and at some point or another, it is too tiring.
But meeting new people is important. Life is too short, so meet all the people you can meet, and make the effort to go out and laugh. Remember, every "hello" leads to a smile—and a smile is worth a lot.
1.What do we learn about the author
A.He likes to be alone. B.He feels stressed out lately.
C.He's active in attending social events. D.He's afraid of talking to others at times.
2.What's the problem of Generation-Y in the author's eyes
A.They rely on the Internet to socialize. B.They are less confident in themselves.
C.They have difficulty in communicating. D.They are unwilling to make new friends.
3.Why do many young people avoid meeting new people
A.They think it troublesome. B.They are busy with their study.
C.They fear to disappoint their old friends. D.They want to take time to do meaningful work.
4.Why does the author write the text
A.To tell about the importance of friends. B.To give tips on how to meet new people.
C.To encourage people to meet new people. D.To introduce the disadvantages of Generation-Y.D
Seeds on Ice
Close to the North Pole, the remote and rocky Plateau Mountain in the Norwegian Svalbard Archipelago seems an unlikely spot for any global effort to safeguard agriculture. In this cold and deserted environment, no grains, no gardens and no trees can grow. Yet at the end of a 130-meter-long tunnel cut out of solid stone is a room filled with humanity's most precious treasure, the largest and most diverse seed collection—more than a half billion seeds. A quiet rescue mission is under way. With growing evidence that unchecked climate change will seriously affect food production and threaten the diversity(多样性) of crops around the world, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault(保险库) represents a major step towards ensuring the preservation(贮藏) of hundreds of thousands of crop varieties. This is a seed collection, but more importantly, it is a collection of the traits found within the seeds: the genes that give one variety resistance to a particular pest and another variety tolerance for hot, dry weather.
Few people will ever see or come into contact with the contents of this vault. In sealed boxes, behind multiple locked doors, monitored by electronic security systems, enveloped in below-zero temperatures, and surrounded by tons of rock, hundreds of millions of seeds are protected in their mountain fortress. Frozen in such conditions inside the mountain, seeds of most major crops will remain viable for hundreds of years, or longer. Seeds of some are capable of retaining(保留) their ability to grow for thousands of years.
Everyone can look back now and say that the Seed Vault was a good and obvious idea, and that of course the Norwegian government should have approved and funded it. But back in 2004, when the Seed Vault was proposed, it was viewed as a crazy, impractical, and expensive idea.
We knew that nothing would provide a definite guarantee. But we were tired, and frankly scared of the steady, greater losses of crop diversity. The Seed Vault was built by optimists who wanted to do something to preserve options so that humanity and its crops might be better prepared for change. If it simply resupplied seed gene banks with samples those gene banks had lost, this would repay our efforts.
The Seed Vault is about hope and commitment— about what can be done if countries come together and work cooperatively to accomplish something significant, long-lasting, and worthy of who we are and wish to be.
1. According to the passage, the Seed Vault is _____.
A. a tunnel where the collected seeds are displayed
B. a stone room that contains the seeds of endangered crops
C. a seed gene bank that stores diverse seeds for future agriculture
D. a lab where researchers study how to maintain the diversity of crops
2.The underlined word "viable" in Paragraph 3probably means _____.
A. mature B. clean C. alive D .valuable
3.Paragraph 3 mainly tells us _____.
A. how the seeds are preserved B. where people keep the seeds
C. why the seeds are protected D. what people do to study the seeds
4.We can know from the passage that _____.
A. the Seed Vault offers a solution to climate change
B. most countries took part in rescuing the seed varieties
C. the Seed Vault guarantees to prevent the loss of crop diversity
D. many people originally considered building the Seed Vault unwise

It was Christmas Eve, and almost all the people were getting together with their family, having the big dinner or enjoying the charming lights of the Christmas tree. But Tomas was still on the way, and it was still a long way to the destination. He felt tired, lonely and cold, especially when the wind was blowing in his cab. Tomas pulled in the truck and reached for his jacket but stopped when he saw the box on the passenger seat next to him.
His mother was the greatest mother in the world who worried about him spending Christmas on the road alone and had given him a box filled with presents before he left home. Though he is a driver now, his mum still treats him like a kid. He reached into the red stocking that was in the box and brought out a toy tractor that looked a lot like his truck. He wondered how many stores his mother had to go to before she found such a close match. Tears filled his eyes.
He climbed out of his truck and ran into the all-night cafe, which was a truck stop that many truck drivers liked to have a rest in.
But today, besides those truckers who were eating arid talking loudly as usual, there were a family of three sitting in a corner, wearing shabby(破旧的)clothes and looking sleepy. The mother hugged the boy who looked unhappy in her arms and the father only muttered something to them or to himself.
Seeing this, Tomas missed his family more. His mum raised four kids by herself, but no matter how hard the life was, she always made sure they had a good Christmas.

第三部分 写作
第一节
答案:One possible version:
Nowadays, there are various English learning apps on the Internet. Recently, I've made a survey in my class of whether students should make use of these apps in their study, over which controversy among my classmates has arisen.
70% of the students are in favor of using these learning apps. Firstly, the apps can help improve their listening as well as expand vocabulary. Moreover, they can refer to these apps whenever and wherever possible, thus broadening their horizons.
In contrast, students, accounting for 30% of the total number, hold the opposite view. They feel students tend to rely on these apps, making them unable to think independently. Worse still, some apps may even contain wrong and harmful information.
From where I stand, I contend that we students should make good use of these learning apps.
第二节
答案: Tomas felt sorry for the boy. No kid should spend Christmas Eve in a truck stop. Then he thought of his box filled with presents chosen by his mother. He looked at the kid again and knew what to do. He put on his jacket, went outside and climbed into his truck. In no time did he come back with that stocking.
He walked to the family. "I think Santa Claus left this for you," Tomas said and handed it to the boy. "Tell Santa thanks, and best wishes to you, "the boy's father said and shook Tomas' hand long and hard. The boy's face lit up almost at once and he eagerly dug inside the stocking, full of curiosity and happiness. Tomas felt a little excited and thought it was the greatest Christmas that he had ever had. What made him more amazed was that he didn't feel tired or lonely anymore.
