[共两节,满分50分]
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A篇
June 18 is the birthday of my late sister, Tanya. She would have been 49 years old this year, but that's increasingly difficult for me to imagine. She is frozen in time at 37.
Tanya died more than a decade ago and the wound left by her loss has healed into a scar (疤痕).It's a big. scar. You can't know me for very long without discovering my scar. Trust me; if you haven't found it on your own I will point it out to you. I want you all to know that she existed, and that she mattered.
When we first lose a loved one, we ask, “How will I live without you ” and wounds are open and weeping. We don't know how we'll cope with the pain. But then the wounds form scars, and we learn to live with our new skins.
“How can I remember you ” we ask.
So many people are hesitant to talk about my sister. It is as though mentioning her will remind me that she is dead, and upset my balance when I am so stable and happy. But I never forget my sister, not for a moment.
And so I love it when people mention Tanya's name. Occasionally, I come across one of her friends, and they casually bring up a memory, and it is like a gift.
So if you have friends who have lost loved ones, please don't avoid talking about their loved one. You won't remind them of their loss, because it is always there. They haven't forgotten their scar. They just don't point it out to you.
Instead, try to reassure (使安心) them their loved one is not forgotten. Ask questions about the deceased (逝去的)person's life. Keep them alive in the only way you can after a person is gone, with your words and your memories.
I love hearing from friends on my sister's birthday, It makes her present, despite her absence. It reminds us all that she was here. She walked this earth.
She was loved, and she mattered. And on June 18,I embrace (欣然接受) my scar.

That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines(台词). I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.
As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers (抢劫犯). Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.

Parents may fear that if their high school student isn't motivated(有动力)10 do well in classes, there's nothing that will change that. But n new study found that students' learning motivation often did change and usually for the better.
1.670 students from grades 9 to 11 took part in the study in two school years, during which they completed several surveys that assessed their motivation. After each survey the students were placed into six different profiles(档案),from wort-those who were not motivated at all, to best-those who had an inner desire to learn.
The study found about 67% students did change their profiles during the two years and there was an overall positive change in students' motivation. For example,8% of the students were in the best profile-autonomously motivated-in the first year, and that increased to 11.4% in the second year. The worst profile, the not motivated, described 2.8% of the students in the first year, dropping to 2.1% in the second year.
“The other good news in the study was that if we can find better ways to motivate students, if we can get them in a better profile, they tend to stay there," said Kui Xie, lead author of the study and professor of educational studies at the Ohio State University.
Why did students move in a positive direction One reason may be simply because they're a year older and more mature(成熟).
But the study did find two factors that impacted how likely they were to become more motivated. One was the previous achievement. Students who had higher grade the first year were more likely to remain in better profiles in the second year of the study. The other factor was school belongingness, with students who felt they were more a part of their school in the first year being more likely to move to or stay in a better profile in the second year.
“This may be one area where we can help students become more motivated,” Xie said. “Belongingness is something schools can change. They can find ways to help students feel like they are part of the school community.”
12. What did Kui Xie's study discover
A. Students' willingness to study can be improved.
B. Teenagers' inner desire to learn can be assessed.
C. Students from grades 9 to I1 are easy to be inspired.
D. Teenagers' learning motivation is parents' most concern.
13. What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 2
A. The background of the study.
B. The influence of the study.
C. The purpose of the study.
D. The process of the study.
14. According to the study, what influences students' motivation
A. Their average ages.
B. Their previous scores.
C. Their personal profiles.
D. Their motivated schoolmates.
15. What may Kui Xie probably agree
A. Schools should put students in better profiles.
B. Students should have their own assessment plan.
C. Schools should use motivation strategies to inspire students.
D. Students should improve their communication with their parents.

I think about him every time I pass by a pink magnolia(木兰) tree in bloom(开花).My Irish granddaddy, tall and thin, full of energy and laughter, held a special place in my heart. He lived across the street with Grandma, and their home was open to us whenever we ran over to visit. We wouldn't go into their house to find him. We would run to the backyard where he would be working in his garden.
Flowers, vegetables-whatever he planted-grew well. From early spring to late autumn, the backyard was colorful.
On the side of the yard grew two apple trees and a small pear tree. A high magnolia tree stood in the middle. Its shiny, dark green leaves and large pink flowers attracted the attention of all who saw it. Besides being beautiful, it was perfect for climbing, but I didn't know how to climb it!
My granddaddy wanted to teach me. He really tried. But I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get back down, or that I would get stuck high up in the tree, so I didn't want to try.
But my granddaddy did want me to try. One early spring morning, Granddaddy was standing on his porch(门廊) waiting for me when I walked outside. “Come over here,” he said excitedly. “The tree has borne lollipops(棒棒糖)!”
“What ” I ran across to the backyard to see the wonderful sight. “No pink magnolia flowers this year,” he said sadly as he shook his head. “But this is the first year ever for our tree to bear lollipops!”
He looked at me. “Do you think you could climb up the tree-just to the lowest branch-and gather one or two Then throw them down to me. I would love a lollipop!”

Dear Miss Wang,
I have heard that Wuyun Dance Club is admitting new members, so I am writing to apply for being a member of it.
First of all, interest is the best teacher. My mother is an amateur dance lover, so greatly influenced by her, my dream is to become a professional dancer. Besides, with the help of my mother, I have learned many dancing skills. What's more, I even won first prize in the dance contest organised by my junior high school. I really hope you can take my application into consideration.
I'm looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version:
I was staring in amazement. Never had I seen a tree full of my favorite candy! I carefully placed my feet on the lowest branch and picked two lollipops. Just as I was about to slide down, I saw some lollipops on a higher branch. So I 'climbed up to the next branch. And slowly, branch by branch, I reached the top of the tree. I looked down and saw Granddaddy smiling at me. “You did it, girl!” he called up to me. “That was 'fun!” I said excitedly.
I climbed down and burst into the kitchen, hands tightly holding my treasures. “Look at what I just picked from the tree!” I' said to Grandma and Mum. “That's amazing, sweetie!” Grandma replied. “But how did that tree bear lollipops instead of putting forth its blossoms ” I asked Grandma. “Didn't you know that your granddaddy is an expert at climbing This morning I saw him...” Grandma 'stopped in mid-sentence and smiled when she saw Mum shake her head. “You know, sweetie. He can make anything grow-even lollipops on trees!”
