NMET, it may be a new word to most. But if we put it “College Entrance Examination”, it will be familiar to most of us, who have had bone-biting experience and sweet memory of having had it and enjoying a relatively successful and full life.
NMET is the most important way of choosing wise heads both in history and at present. Maybe it is because its harder to invent a new way that NMET will still be playing an important part in the education in China. No matter how well you are doing and how good you are at your schooling, the last 3 or 4 days, the 7 sets of paper work and your final scores will give you the “final sentence”.
Those lucky ones would be enjoying the fruitful rewards while the other failed students would have to take in bitter and tearful results as if they had done nothing during the previous years. It is the same with their parents. Even worse, our society is now in the habit of making favorable judgment over those lucky ones without showing enough care to the failed ones. In this way those who failed are under pressure beyond their ability to bear, which will naturally lead to some tragedies after the public announcement of the NMET results.
I can’t predict anything but I really wish all the NMET takers could get a satisfactory result. I call on more care from parents and the society about those who need our care. Though we have no way to have the system changed, we can still do something to change what we can change.
When one door closes, another window opens. So long as you are on the track and spare no effort, there should be a bright future not far ahead of you.

A. Adventurous. B. Unforgettable.

A. Parents. B. Teachers.

When Randy Heists went hiking behind his Patagonia, Ariz. farm, the last thing he expected to find was a Christmas list from a little girl across the US-Mexico border. “I found this balloon on my morning walk near Patagonia on Sunday. Attached to it was a piece of paper with the Christmas wishes from a little girl,” Heists wrote on his Facebook page.
When he brought the list home to his wife, who speaks fluent Spanish, they determined that the little girl had asked for Enchantimals toys, clothes, art supplies and various other gifts. That’s when Heists set out to make the little girls Christmas dreams come true. Heists said he had attempted to send Christmas letters to Santa Claus via balloon when he was a kid but never received a response.
Heists sent a Facebook message on Wednesday to XENY, a radio station in Nogales, to see if it could help him track down the girl or her family. He later received a response from the station, which had determined the author of the letter was an 8-year-old girl named Dalai, and the station wanted to set up a meeting between the two on Thursday. “It just changed my entire day,” Heists told the Washington Post. “Instead of going back to my office in Bisbee, I went with my wife to Waymart. ”
The couple bought almost everything on Dynamism list. They also brought a few gifts for Dynamism little sister, Xiamen. They told the children they were “ayudantes de Santa,” or Santa’s helpers.
Heists, 60, said the experience was very healing for him and his wife. Nine years ago, the couples only son died. “Being around children at Christmas time has been absent in our lives,” Heists said. We now have friends for life. For a day, that border fence with its concertina wire melted away.

You might think people all over the United States have Wi-Fi—wireless Internet service—and mobile phones. But there is no such service in Green Bank, West Virginia, a tiny town four hours from the U.S. capital, Washington D.C. Fewer than 150 people live in Green Bank, which has two churches, an elementary school and a public library. It is also home to the largest radio telescope in the world.
There is a ban on Wi-Fi in Green Bank, along with anything else that can create electromagnetic (电磁的) waves. Officials say the waves could disturb the signals the telescope receives.
For many Americans, a visit to Green Bank is a little like returning to the 1950s. To get there, you must read road signs—because there is no GPS service in the town. People can connect with the Internet through telephones, but wireless service is not allowed.
The observatory (天文台) is one of the largest employers in the area. The federal National Science Foundation (NSF) spends about $8.2 million a year to operate the observatory, telescope and educational center.
Jonah Baseman is a technician. If he supposes there is a signal that is not allowed in the zone, he drives to the house where the signal is coming from and checks it. But once a week, when the device is cleaned, some banned devices are allowed near it.
People in the town respect the work of the scientists. And they say they are happy to live without Wi-Fi and mobile phones. “You know, instead of sitting here on our phones and other devices were out fishing and hunting and going to each other’s houses.” Everyone knows each other and communication is almost always face-to-face.
