一、when引导的特殊疑问句
1.when为疑问副词，常用来询问时间，意为“什么时候”。When is sb.’s birthday 是用来询问某人生日是何时的常用句型，意为“……的生日是什么时候？”,其答语为：Sb.’s birthday/It’s+日期，这里sb.’s要用形容词性物主代词或名词所有格。
e.g.:—When is her birthday
—Her birthday is on August 9th.
2.名词所有格表示“某人的”，通常是 “名词+’s”。
二、序数词
1.概念：表示事物的顺序的数词叫做序数词，它的作用相当于名词或形容词。
2.构成：
（1）变异类：one→first第一；two→second第二；three→third第三。
（2）普通类：第四至第十九均在相应的基数词后加-th,但第五（fifth）和第十二（twelfth）均把基数词five和twelve词尾的ve改为f,再加-th。基数词eight的序数词，直接在后加-h,即eighth。基数词nine的序数词，将词尾的e去掉，再加-th,即ninth。
（3）“ty类”：即以“ty”结尾的整十的序数词是把对应基数词的最后一个字母y变成i,再加-eth。如：twenty→twentieth；forty→fortieth
（4）几十几类：表示“几十几”的基数词变序数词时，只将个位变成序数词，十位数不变。如：twenty-three→twenty-third
【注意】序数词的前面往往加定冠词the,但当序数词前有物主代词、指示代词等修饰时，则不必加the。
三、时间介词on,in与at辨析
1. on常用在表示星期几或具体某一日及某一日的上午、下午或晚上的名词前。如：on May 4th在五月四日
2. in常用在年、月、季节、世纪及表示泛指上午、下午或晚上的名词前。
如：in March在三月 in the morning在早上
3. at常用在表示某一具体时刻的名词前。
如：at ten在十点；at noon在正午
