In about a week I will start one of my most expected adventures ever. Sarek National Park will be a mission. It is not a place for the unprepared. It is a place for adventurous hearts who are looking for solitude ( 独处), wildness and a connection with nature that is hard to find on our planet these days. High up in the north of Sweden at the border with Norway, it is called the last European Wilderness.
The preparation for this trip started a few months ago. I tried to prepare in the best way possible as this is uncharted territory for me. It will be the first hike really off the beaten path. I will not go into details until I get back and actually know what I am talking about.
There are a few things to keep in mind when you plan to hike in Sarek National Park. First of all, there are no huts ( 棚屋) or any accommodation. If you are at the heart of Sarek you will be at least a 4-5 days hike away from the next mountain hut. So this means I will have to carry everything I need for 8-10 days. The biggest part of the load will be food. There are no paths or waymarks. I will have to make my own route with GPS and maps.
In addition, the weather can be very challenging. Sarek is the area in Sweden with the heaviest rainfall. It is also known for strong wind and there're not many places to shelter from it because there are hardly any trees. It is important to bring professional hiking gear ( 装备). Finding and choosing a good campsite might take some time as well.
24. What kind of destination does the author consider Sarek National Park to be
A. Popular and convenient.
B. Busy and well-connected.
C. Remote and forest-covered.
D. Attractive and demanding.
25. What does the underlined word “uncharted” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Not vast. B. Not accepted.
C. Not explored. D. Not dangerous.
26. What will the author do in Sarek National Park
A. Make a map of Sarek.
B. Build shelters for tourists.
C. Reach the depths of Sarek.
D. Measure the rainfall of Sarek.
27. What is the author's purpose in writing paragraph 4
A. To explain why there are few trees there.
B. To recommend ways of finding good campsites.
C. To discuss causes of heavy rains and strong wind.
D. To remind possible travelers of the challenging weather.

Chaplin arrived at our Keystone Film Company in early December 1913. We rushed him into a short film called Making a Living as fast as we could. There was trouble: Chaplin's music-hall costume was funny on stage with British comedians, but no good on the screen with Chester Conklin playing a policeman. Henry Lehrman was the director, but he worked Chaplin too fast. Chaplin didn't know what he was doing. It was shown on February 2, 1914 to disappointing reviews and box office results. Later we sent it out under different titles, such as A Busted Johnny, Troubles, and Doing His Best. No matter what we called it, the film found little favor with most moviegoers.
“We just got our little company in the black,” Charles O. Baumann shouted at me. “Now with this silly cheap comedian you picked out of nowhere, you're pushing us into the red.” I stuck up for my decision to put Charlie Chaplin in films. “The trouble is,” I said, “we haven't got his character right yet. We haven't got his timing right, either. Or his make-up and costume. Give me a little time and I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie Chaplin turns out to be a fair actor.”
We were learning how to use a promising actor. Still, Chaplin was considered a strange man by my team of professionals. They considered him cheap. He wasn't cheap. He simply didn't enjoy drinking or partying. He preferred his own company. He often walked the streets on his own at night watching things and people. He lived in a cheap hotel and he stayed in it until long after he became worth a million dollars a year.
By the time Chaplin had made fairly short films, we knew what a great find we had. He had watched and listened and asked questions, and learned from Mabel Normand. He was still shy and tongue-tied but he thought he was different from other comedians. This was how Chaplin started to become Charlie Chaplin.
28. How did Making a Living turn out
A. It was a failure.
B. It sold quite well.
C. It was influential in Britain.
D. It showed Chaplin's great skills.
29. What was the author's attitude to Chaplin as an actor
A. Supportive. B. Surprised.
C. Uncaring. D. Worried.
30. What did the author say about Chaplin's personal life
A. He used money unreasonably.
B. He had many strange habits.
C. He seldom left his home.
D. He liked being alone.
31. What do we know about Chaplin from the last paragraph
A. He tried to develop his own style.
B. He liked to help other comedians.
C. He was on his way to becoming a great actor.
D. He was facing great difficulties at Keystone.

To provide visitors with a special experience, theme parks are putting more money into Virtual Reality (VR) technology. In fact, the lifestyle team of the website, The Week, attended the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in Orlando. The purpose was to do a study on the implementation ( 实施) of VR technology on roller coasters. The team studied 23 roller coaster manufacturers (制造商) in Europe and found that eight of those manufacturers had implemented VR technology into at least one of their roller coasters. Based on their study, it appears that VR technology is already an important and growing factor in the future development of theme parks.
The theme park industry at first saw VR technology as a cost-saving means to put new life into attractions. In 2015, companies such as Six Flags began adding VR technology to their roller coasters. It soon became clear, however, that there were many difficulties with implementing VR technology on the rides. Because of the time it took to provide riders with VR headsets, wait times and lines began to increase. Moreover, companies had to train employees how to set up the VR systems and make sure that all headsets were clean. This proved not to be cost-saving, so new systems had to be put into place.
Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, set out to solve these problems by developing a two-part headset for the ride Battle for Eire. The park worked with Falcon's Creative Group to develop this new technology, which allowed guests to be fitted with a headpiece while waiting in line. This shortened wait times and provided a cleaner environment. Falcon's Creative Group and Busch Gardens used creative thinking to improve an attraction that was built around VR.
According to TEA / AECOM Global Attractions Attendance Report, 2018 saw more than 252 million people visit the top 25 theme parks in the world. To keep these numbers, it is important that these and other theme-park companies continue to come up with new ideas to create and introduce great attractions — especially those that make use of new VR technology.
32. What did The Week find
A. Roller coasters were getting less popular than before.
B. Half of the studied theme parks have used VR technology.
C. VR technology may greatly influence the future theme parks.
D. Theme parks have not realized the importance of VR technology.
33. What happened after Six Flags used VR technology
A. A lot of money was saved.
B. Many unexpected problems appeared.
C. The number of visitors hugely increased.
D. Visitors thought highly of the improvement.
34. What did Busch Gardens do
A. It employed more workers.
B. It creatively developed a headset.
C. It chose to use its traditional technology again.
D. It worked with other companies to build new theme parks.
35. What did the author advise theme parks to do
A. To give up traditional technology.
B. To work with other theme parks.
C. To develop creative attractions.
D. To build new theme parks.

A national park is an area set aside by a government for the preservation of the natural environment. The national parks in the United States and Canada center on the protection of both land and wildlife. 36 And those in Africa primarily protect animals.
It is widely thought that the idea of a park or nature reserve under state ownership started in the United States in 1870. 37 Yosemite, Sequoia, and General Grant National Parks were established in the United States in 1890. And the U. S. National Park Service (NPS) was created in 1916 to manage the parks. 38 In addition to national parks, the system included national preserves, seashores, historic parks and sites and so on.
Partly following the American example, movements supporting national parks sprang up in many other countries. 39 And Canada set up its first three national parks in the mid-1880s. The establishment of modern national parks and nature reserves gained momentum (动力) only after World War I or, in some cases, after World War II in Europe. Great Britain established the administrative machinery for both national parks and nature reserves in 1949. 40 But interest in parks came later in Asia and Latin America than it did in the Anglo-American countries and Europe.
A. These movements began in Canada.
B. George Catlin offered the idea during the 1830s.
C. Visitors are allowed to enter for different purposes.
D. Those in the United Kingdom center mainly on the land.
E. Japan and Mexico established their first national parks in the 1930s.
F. By the early 21st century the NPS managed more than 400 separate areas.
G. It is also thought that the world's first such park was Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Pembral was a good boy. But he was always forgetting things. Big things, small things, important things, little things. His mother was a patient woman, which was a good thing. Pembral regularly tested her patience. She learned early on to remind him of everything: big things, small things, important things, even the little things. Once in a while the little things that didn't seem important at the time became more important later.
Sometimes she thought that Pembral forgot things on purpose — things like washing behind his ears; or picking up his toys; or feeding the dog. It bothered (麻烦) her to remind him of these sorts of things. However, for the most part, she knew that his mind just wandered off and it was her job to bring it back.
Fall weather had arrived. The air was cool and fresh, especially in the morning, even if the skies were brilliant blue and the sun was shining brightly. The light of the morning made wisps (缕) of fog come up from the ponds. The trees were changing their summer greens to coats of brilliant yellow, orange and red.
This was a time when Pembral's mother cooked things that smelled and tasted really good. It seemed like he was just hungrier in the fall or something, and he liked how the windows steamed up and how the kitchen smells filled up the whole house when his mother was cooking up something good at that time of the year.
Pembral's mother was baking (烤) something special that day: a carrot cake. It was one of Pembral's favorites. But she needed some things from the store, and sent Pembral to get them. “I need eggs, sugar and raisins ( 葡萄干),” she said. “Here's some money,” she went on. “Put it in your pocket where you won't lose it.”
Pembral pushed the money into his pocket, and headed toward the door. He went outside and down the street, kicking dry leaves on the sidewalk into the air and breathing in their smell, and watching flying birds.

The first to the sixth stories are cave landscapes, and the seventh story is an underground river. The stones are in various shapes and sizes, such as flowers, mushrooms, towers, waterfalls and so on.

第二节
One possible version:
When he got to the store, he picked up a basket and went about shopping. He found the sugar and the raisins quickly and went to the front of the store to check out. He'd forgotten all about the eggs, just thinking of the raisins and the carrot cake. Along the way back home, Pembral saw some leaves that were really big and brilliant in color, so he picked them up to give to his mother. When Pembral got home, he put the things on the table.
He was reaching into his pocket for the change when his mother said, “Where are the eggs ” Pembral stopped. Eggs! He forgot the eggs! He looked at the bag, and then said sadly, “I'm sorry, Momma. I forgot.” His mother was unhappy and hurried out the door. Pembral stood still and thought about how to make his mother happy. Moments later, his mother returned. Just then he remembered the colorful leaves that he had picked up, and gave them to his mother. A smile spread on his mother's face. She looked at Pembral and gave him a big hug.

I've been in many of the ... caves in the world和So more caves可知,这里作者是说他已经去过世界上很多洞穴。故选caves。
42. B。 Wind Cave National Park was a park I wasn't very interested in visiting的解释,作者对风洞国家公园不感兴趣,究其原因是他已经去过世界上很多最棒、最有名的洞穴。 下文中的seen other great caves也是提示。
故unimpressive(普通的,毫无特色的)符合语境。
44. A。 be happy to do sth.
45. C。由下文中的解释first come first served tickets和I had a lot of driving ahead of me可知,因为有其他的安排,为了先到先买票,作者早上八点整就“到了(arrive)”游客中心。
46. C。 故line up(排队,排成一行)符合语境。
I was sure to ... at the Visitor Center at 8 am sharp和I had a lot of driving ahead of me可知,作者早上八点整就排队买票,是因为他还有其他安排,不想“错过(miss)”出发最早的参观团。
52. A。 故challenge(挑战)符合语境。
53. D。 The caves themselves were OK和I may sound jaded可知,因为作者已经见识过很多非常棒的洞穴,因此风洞让他有点失望。
I had a lot of driving ahead of me可知,参观完风洞,作者还有驱车参观该国家公园的安排。
55. B。由上文中的see buffalo and other animals wandering around可知,因为下雨,作者没有在风洞国家公园“看到(see)”很多动物。
56. beautiful。
57. and。
58. visited。
59. the。 at the heart of ... 在……中心。
60. greatly。
61. is。
